Beck vs. Stewart: What was the turn out?
11/1/2010 | Peter from Rutland

I'm currently having an argument with someone about the turn out of the two rallies. They are of course saying that Stewarts rally had a bigger turn out than Beck's.

The basis of their argument is this:

CBS News reports Stewart's event drew 215,000 people to the National Mall in Washington, based on a crowd estimate from AirPhotosLive.com.

The same company, which examines aerial photos of crowds to gauge attendance, estimated between 78,000 and 96,000 people attended Beck's rally in August.

This is obvious bogus. Anyone have any better stats?

....better to ask how many “free rides and who paid for what?”
for both gatherings

Stewart said the crowd was between 200,000 and 10,000,000.

Why bother. Just ask how much Stewart raised for the Special operations warrior foundation and leave it at that.

....sounds like the amount of beck supports on one train that they paid for with their own money

All you need to know is the Beck event covered 15 square blocks and the Stewart event covered 3 square blocks.

They are nowhere near comparable.

The only turn out I’m interested in will be tomorrow’s.

I thought the Beck rally estimate was 300-400,000.
From what I could see at Stewart’s concert and costume ball...it looked big...but not bigger than Beck’s rally.

The Stewart rally pulled in the population of the Earth to the second power.

As of yesterday, the ridership statistics for the DC Metro on 10-30 were not available... when they become available, compare them with the stats from 8-28.

They were UP >250k from the previous year at Beck’s rally.

I understand CBS’s agenda... but, I don’t get why a private company would purposefully misrepresent crowd figures... I guess, it gurantees they’ll keep getting business from CBS. But, they’ll end up with ZERO credibility.

Stop wasting your time; the only count that matters is tomorrow.

It’s not the count that counts, but the class of people. The rally looked like a freak show, as well as most of the entertainment. Cat Stevens, for God’s sake!

Who cares? What percentage of Stewart’s crowd are even likely voters? You are comparing engaged citizens to a crowd going to see a comedy act.

Regarding the Metro stats, I parked at the Vienna station for the Beck event and they opened the gates let everyone in without getting passes because the line wrapped arount the parking lot and was interfering with traffic.

By the way. How are they getting photos? The airspace in that area is closed to all traffic except Marine 1. If POTUS is NOT on board even Marine 1 will be shot down if it varies even a small amount from the designated flight path.

I noticed something interesting the other day at the tea party express stop in Jackson the other day.

They asked for donations which is fine but what interested me was the way people passed their money forward to complete strangers in the crowd. Try that at a moveon rally and somebody would get robbed before those growing wads of cash made it to the front of the crowd.

Looks like they’re from the top of the Washington Monument.

The media spin is irritating but not worth your time to argue about.

The Stewart rally kept thousands of losers off the streets for a Saturday before election, and is generally conceded to have been a bomb.
