About 18 percent of St. Johns County registered voters cast their ballot by the time early voting for the general election concluded Saturday afternoon.
Unofficial totals from the Supervisor of Elections office showed 24,440 of the county's 139,444 registered voters had voted since early voting began on Oct. 18.
A breakdown of voters by party affiliation wasn't available Saturday night, but officials have said that Republican voters were turning out at a higher rate than Democratic voters last week.
Just under 35,000 people had cast ballots last week in Duval, Clay, Nassau and St. Johns counties, and more than 20,000 of those votes came from Republicans.
That reverses the 2008 trend, when Democrats led by 20 percent, Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland said in earlier Record reports.
Almost twice as many people cast their votes in the second week in St. Johns County as in the first week -- 15,284 versus 9,156. Breakdowns by party are not yet available.
I read last night that through Friday 1.9 million plus, including absentee ballots, statewide breakdown was 50,35,15.

I know that’s your necks of the woods, but between the unemployed, underemployed, and retired that has to equal almost 25% of the population in St Johns county.
Early voting works out much better for the Democrats. I hate it. I hate the proliferation of absentee ballots which used to be just for the infirm or elderly. Now it’s a tool for scamming the system.
Whatever happened to Election Day being election day? You got the day off from work or half a day off. Where I live early voting has greatly increased the costs of election. I read that each early voting location costs $50,000
While she said early voting hasn't lived up to its promise of increasing voter turnout since it was launched in 2004, she encourages people to vote early because it's expensive and they pay for it. She estimates early voting costs roughly $50,000 per location - or $400,000 in Palm Beach County.
About 188,000 in the county, it’s become a bedroom for Jacksonville.

There aren’t any really big cities in St. John’s County.
I did last week cause I am working 12 hour days. I am tired of 6 of those hours going to support programs to teach African Males how to wash their Genitals.

The government would need 100 employees for your project. Inspectors, Instructors, People to do studies and write reports. Hearings etc. Does the soap cause environmental damage? Could the action possibly cause Carpel Tunnel Syndrome? The Golf Ball Washer Act would have to get through all the committees and lobbyists will be donating millions to each possible vote. Rube Goldberg would be proud of our current government.
Not in Duval. I know when you vote early, the chances of getting another chance are virtually zero unless you have several identities each with a drivers license. Add to it, the new penalties for even attempting to vote after sending in an absentee ballot is a felony.
