Two of Connecticut's Democratic Congressmen are in dead heats in a new poll with just days to go before Election Day.
5th District Congressman Chris Murphy is trailing his Republican challenger Sam Caliguiri by a slim margin in the poll conducted by the Merriman River Group.
Caliguri has 46.9 percent of the vote to Murphy's 45.5 percent, according to the poll commissioned by CT Capitol Report.
The poll does have some good news for Murphy, who is seeking his third term in Congress.
"It appears that Representative Chris Murphy has closed the gap in recent days," the poll's director Matthew Fitch said. "That's a difficult feat for an incumbent to do, but he has yet to break 50 percent at any point in our polling and time is running out."
In the 4th district, Republican challenger Dan Debicella holds a two-point lead over incumbent Democrat Jim Himes 48.0 percent to 46.1 percent.
Himes hopes to get a boost from a visit from President Obama in Bridgeport on Saturday.
"With the President coming to Bridgeport for Representative Himes, the question continues to focus on turnout," Fitch said. "It is clear that Representative Himes will win Bridgeport by a large percentage, but he may need at least 30,000 people to come out to vote from that city to offset expected losses in the rest of the district."
The poll shows Himes is struggling with male voters, and with people who identify with the Tea Party.
"Dan Debicella is winning Tea Party voters by a 10-1 margin, while Himes leads everyone else," Fitch said.

We’re hoping for the Dem Murphy tsunami trifecta: Chris Murphy in CT-05, Patrick Murphy in PA-08 and Scott Murphy in NY-20.

I can understand that as a loyal Obama flunkie he’s not going to dis the guy (who was up on the podium next) but he has to be pretty delusional to think that his remarks helped him with the 70% of the electorate who are not deranged Koolaid drinkers.
