Wow- I actually agree with him on some thing
As a FORMER (20 years ago) smoker I can say from experience pot is less harmful the Alcohol
And as a former Police Officer in the Air Force and Reserves nd with many State and Local Police department friends I can say they mostly agree- they have never had to break up a domestic with pot-heads
Make it legal, make driving or operating machinery while ‘intoxecated” a big crime
The mosney we waste with police fighting this and the illegal drug money going to Mexico is just ridiculous
Many, many folks are making a very good living off this stuff. DEA, lawyers, prison systems all gain greatly.
Pot is not less harmful than Alcohol. For you, personally, perhaps. Bill Bennett (former drug czar) had a couple of experts on his show a few weeks back and they said more people are coming in for serious addiction to marijuana than ever before. Just recently, I read an article about movie actress Juliette Lewis who was a notorious teen pothead and she said it finally was not enough so she went to coke, etc.
It is a gateway drug. Experts in drug rehab will repeat this over and over again.
One more myth is that legalizing it will stop the cartels. It will not. Meanwhile, can you imagine what will happen when these little stores start selling it? There are already enough drug crimes.
As long as it is not free, people will commit crimes to get it.
And, one last thing. Marijuana destroys brain cells and causes other serious physiological problems - similar to alcohol. And it stinks! I’d hate to be the guy living in the apartment next to the pothead.
Retired from 23 years in the NYPD. I spent time in the Narcotics Division and arrested my share of people for possession and selling marijuana. Alcohol causes more problems with violence etc. I’ve seen plenty of guys get liquored up and so ballistic. Pot doesn’t cause these kinds of problems.
Do we need another legal drug? No, but we don’t need to make tens of millions of our fellow citizens criminals over this stuff.
And as a former Police Officer in the Air Force and Reserves nd with many State and Local Police department friends I can say they mostly agree- they have never had to break up a domestic with pot-heads...The mosney we waste with police fighting this...
Here is a mental exercise for you. If policing marijuana usage is so expensive, go the way of the city of Oakland declaring certain crimes and felonies to not be worthy of police investigation. That is, make as policy a virtual "sanctuary city" for pot-heads in the same way cities decline to enforce immigration laws by making "sanctuary cities" for illegal aliens.
If it is so damned expensive, then surely not enforcing marijuana laws by ignoring possession and flagrant use will be a boon to city coffers and increase the quality of life in that city in the same way ignoring the teeming hordes of illegal aliens have made our urban centers such utopian centers of social and fiscal bliss.
Somehow, even the most profligate wasters of public money and caterers to the lowest common denominator of mankind know that a sanctuary city for dope smokers is one of the fastest ways to guarantee instant sub-Detroit status.
Even worse than the money we waste keeping some pothead from smoking a doobie and eating cookies is the freedoms we lose as the government enacts thousands of laws to allow them to steal our property under the mere SUSPICION that your property MIGHT be somehow connected to the sale of drugs.
