AP Exclusive: Reid Got $1M in Land Sale

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn't personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

In the process, Reid did not disclose to Congress an earlier sale in which he transferred his land to a company created by a friend and took a financial stake in that company, according to records and interviews.

The Nevada Democrat's deal was engineered by Jay Brown, a longtime friend and former casino lawyer whose name surfaced in a major political bribery trial this summer and in other prior organized crime investigations. He's never been charged with wrongdoing—except for a 1981 federal securities complaint that was settled out of court.

Land deeds obtained by The Associated Press during a review of Reid's business dealings show:

_The deal began in 1998 when Reid bought undeveloped residential property on Las Vegas' booming outskirts for about $400,000. Reid bought one lot outright, and a second parcel jointly with Brown. One of the sellers was a developer who was benefiting from a government land swap that Reid supported. The seller never talked to Reid.

What took the AP so long?

We've known about this for years.
I am rather surprised AP actually recognized and wrote about it.

This is probably what Reid meant by “...from the private sector” when Angle asked him how he got so rich even though he’d been in the Senate for long.

I remember this story too. It was 2004 or 2006 I think. Didn't seem to matter to any experts at the time, although it is clearly another sign of corruption.

In the movie “Casino” you can see a character playing him who rejects DeNiro for a gambling license. A composite half Reid and half other sleazeballs

There used to be a Freeper who posted incredibly revealing info about Reid’s mob role as “Mr. Cleanface.” If that Freeper is still around, this would be a good time to refresh everyone’s memory about this notorious crook.

Fixed income Harry Reid forgot during the debate last night that property had value.

Poor little Harry has to get by on only his Senate salary and occasional million dollar property income.

He also forgot to explain that his sons work as lobbyists who sell access to the Senate Majority leader. He may have paid their college tuition but without access to him and the Senate they lack employment.

His sons move from one law practice to the next yet the only thing they bring is a corrupt relationship with him.

Yes, I am accusing Harry Reid of criminal conduct.

Notice how this is not a headline on Yahoo even though it is an AP article.

You’re right, that was Fedora (how could a Sinatra fan like me forget fedora?). Thanks for linking the info. I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that Reid was as mobbed up as it’s possible to be. Thank goodness it looks like he may be about to sleep with the fishes.
