Gen. James Jones is resigning as President Obama's national security adviser. Tom Donilon, the deputy national security adviser, will replace him, a senior administration official tells POLITICO.
Jones's resignation will take effect in two weeks. Obama will make an announcement in the Rose Garden at 1 p.m. Friday

Secretary of Defense Bob Gates asserts Tom Donilon would be a "disaster" as National Security Advisor. This may be news to the legions in the press corps and policy community that love the smart and capable Donilon, but former Deputy National Security Advisor, former CIA Director Gates is one of the most thoughtful students of the U.S. national security apparatus ever to also serve in several of its top positions. He is loved and respected by even more members of the press, policy and political communities. Therefore, even though he is known to be departing, his comment on Donilon won't be helpful to Donilon's chances to succeed Jim Jones
Obama is replacing those abandoning his sinking Administration with sycophants he has surrounded himself with. Rather than bringing in people from outside his inner circle, he is narrowing the circle. First Rouse as Chief of Staff. Now Donilon as Nat’l Sec Advisor. No wonder ol Barry is taking a long trip overseas TWO days after the election. He knows the ship is sinking and is probably looking for some property in Bali to retire to in 2012
Tom Donilon was a registered lobbyist from 1999 through 2005, and his sole client was Fannie Mae. His brother is a counselor to Biden, and his wife is Jill Biden’s chief of staff. Obama’s circle is very very small.
It’s Friday before a 3 day weekend (for some people, anyway).

More like “scorched Earth”. Well, America and its potential, at least.
Jones’ timing could not be worse for Mullah Hussein, and giving 2 weeks notice is highly unusual for someone as highly placed as Jones is. Appointing Donilon to replace who General McChrystal’s Staff referred to as a “clown” should be an indication to everyone that this (P)resident has absolutely no intention of performing a Clintonian “pivot” to the Middle on anything.
There is more to this than meets the eye, and none of it gives me warm fuzzies. Our enemies perceive this as more proof of how weak our Government is; and that makes all of us even more vulnerable.
And wasnt Jones supposed to be pretty politically liberal to begin with?
Instead of learning from their mistakes, they seem to be digging their hole deeper and deeper. And to me, that translates to being further and further out of touch with the voters. And the voters are paying close attention...and are not happy.
The Obama administration is doing more damage to the Democrat Party agenda than the ghost of W F Buckley past could have dreamed.
