"most of us need to be fair about all this stuff all the time, don't we?"

One would think. But lately it seems like a lot of folks here are ready to toss the NRA off a cliff, on 'principle'.

I'm all for having principles, and have some big ones of my own, but I don't see those 'principles' doing a whole lot of good when we're all sitting in the gulag.

Politics is an ugly game, complicated and dirty, and beyond the comprehension of a lot of folks here. Of course, that doesn't keep them from screaming "Off with their heads!" at every opportunity.

Must be nice from that lofty seat you’re perched on.

It is rather ironic that you’ll attack FReepers personallly by accusing some of being devoid of comprehension,

“... beyond the comprehension of a lot of folks here.”

and dismissing our position while claiming that you’re the more “intelligent” NRA supporter.

shovel your manure somewhere else. There are a number of us whom supported the NRA for years, but I guess blind faith isn’t asking too much.

You win the “Mr. Hyperbole” Award. We are the same individuals whom supported the NRA when they were in the right. I find it rather interesting, if not revealing, that you would level ad hominem attacks at Freepers who would not only disagree with your blind faith, but would accuse us of being idiots.

Perhaps you’re one of those liberals within the organization. I don’t know, but I’m thankful that there are a few former NRA members out there willing to task the organization to task for endorsing the enemy.

"One would think. But lately it seems like a lot of folks here are ready to toss the NRA off a cliff, on 'principle'. "

Speaking for my own self, I neglected to renew my NRA membership and frankly my reason had little to do with any sanctimonious principle. It was purely pragmatic.

If these geniuses at the NRA (Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox - as a matter of principle I have no problem naming names :) ) have their way we're headed for a congressional majority of Democrats who will most certainly put the next Kagan on the court and who honestly couldn't be counted on to NOT ratify some sort of UN treaty. (See recent State Department embargo on imported M1 rifles.)

I've seen this personally here in Oklahoma, where Tom Coburn, an absolute one hundred percent friend of gun owners, was opposed by the NRA, who endorsed a young Democrat named Brad Carson who was the pick of the Democrat establishment and was rumored to be backed by Soros money.

I saw that play being run live and in person at the (liberal, Democrat) lawyer's office just around the corner from my own home - prominently displaying the NRA magazine he'd subscribed to, doing his part to hold up the facade while he himself was hosting parties for Brad Carson, and six years later, Whatsisname Rice who was the next ***coughcoughlightinhisloaferscoughcough*** fake in a black leather jacket they tried to run against Coburn.

And unfortunately we have no monopoloy on this experience here in Oklahoma, either.

This ain't some sort of pretentious matter involving my sense of righteousness, or loyalty to some organization that's on the verge of outliving itself. My position is about my right to choose what firearms I wish to possess, and that's where my loyalty is as well.

It's self-evident and intuitively obvious to even myself that the Democrat party of Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden, (author of the Klinton assault weapon ban), Hillary Clinton, (Head of the State Department that is even now imposing an embargo on M1 rifles), Eric (we need to ban guns here in the US so Mexicans will stop shooting each other) Holder, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Nancy Pelosi is my enemy.

Or do you guys see it differently? Harry Reid pork-barrels a nice blingy shooting range back home in Nevada so Wayne and the boys can come hob-nob with the Weatherby trap gun crowd, and how did he vote on Kagan? How did he vote on Sotomayor? And what are those two **coughcoughwomenscoughcough** stated positions on gun ownership, notwithstanding their Senate testimony?

The straightest answer I've ever gotten to that question is "Well, you need to just trust the NRA lobbyists, they know what they're doing and they're going to wheel and deal get 'em drunk and rent 'em hookers and stuff... it'll all be okay."

Can you help me out here?
