However it sure sounds like a cartel operation - there are thousands of cartel operations in Texas.
The only difference between this gang bust and the ones in Mexico is that the Mexican army just executes the gang members in their compounds, while USA agents usually do not.
The civil war is here and these are the players - it is more like a degeneration into bands of warlords active in drugs and gun running, versus the feds every once in a while, and everyone else tries to stay out of the way and self preserve. Truer words could have been mentioned. I grew up along the TX border and know first hand what goes on. Like clockwork the Federales (sic) make their rounds. Every 6 months where I lived. A smart person knew to stay away. As a teenager we where headstrong and not so smart. I had a friend get shot in the shoulder when he did not have enough money to buy his way out of his situation (which was just being there). Then he got ‘cocky’ and lost.
If you do not know your ‘clan’ by now, your are probably in real trouble next year.
