Sharia as the new red menace? (Barf)
washingtonpost.com ^ | Sept. 21, 2010 | Eugene Robinson

Posted on 09/21/2010 12:26:08 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Boy, I really hate it when American judges try to impose harsh Islamic sharia law. You know, with all those grisly lashings, stonings and beheadings. What's that you say? No such thing is happening, and you wonder where I got such a crazy idea? Why, Newt Gingrich told me.

On Saturday, speaking at the conservative Values Voter Summit, Gingrich issued a thunderous call for action against an imminent threat that exists only in his fevered imagination -- or, perhaps, in his political machinations.

"We should have a federal law that says sharia law cannot be recognized by any court in the United States," Gingrich declared, to a standing ovation.

Okay, but would this include Judge Judy? Because I've always suspected that when she gets really mad, and she snaps the heads off both the plaintiff and the defendant, she might be slipping a little sharia into the American subconscious -- you know, preparing an unsuspecting nation for the real deal. Maybe we need another law that covers fake judges on daytime television, with punishments that begin with flogging.

But seriously, folks, Newt says we have to halt the insidious encroachment of sharia law, and we have to halt it here and now. In July, speaking at the American Enterprise Institute, he went on at great length about the supposed sharia menace, which he sees as part of a "stealth" campaign to impose Islam on all of us.

"Stealth jihadis use political, cultural, societal, religious, intellectual tools; violent jihadis use violence," Gingrich said at AEI. "But in fact they're both engaged in jihad, and they're both seeking to impose the same end state, which is to replace Western civilization with a radical imposition of sharia."

Hey, Eugene, you had better start paying attention.

Did you know mohammad owned slaves and sold slaves? Black slaves? Did you know mohammad called blacks “raisin heads” and “pug-nosed slaves”?

Did you know sharia law is already creeping into judicial decisions in the U.S.? No? Well, just google and find out.

Eugene, it is very irresponsible of you to write something of which you know so little about, don’t you think?

Reminds me of days when I thought McCarthy did quit too soon...

Wut?

Just sayin...Still a lot of commies...

I imagine if he was alive today, the man would feel vindicated.

And Sharia is no Potemkin’s village of a threat...Fortunately, the tree of liberty’s roots run deep in this country and its hard to see this weevil as credible, long-term existential threat.

That said, I never did care for weevils. Even the lesser ones.

As long as we are vigilant...we can end this rot and blight.

Eugene at the Washington compost may naysay all he wants, but the fact is that true beievers in Islam want to advance Sharia Law and make it the law of the land wherever they live. Sharia Law is a totalitarian ideology masquerading as religion Anyone preaching it should lose any pretense of religious protection and be treated for the enemy they are.

The wash post is officially on the side of the headchoppers. They had a chance to align themselves with the people who want to protect our fading civilization, and they chose the people who slice Jewish necks.

The Red Menace was genuine. Not overstated. Name the falsely accused Communists.

The Soviet loving Communists stateside saw nothing “wrong” with being a Communist in allegiance to a foreign power seeking to subvert the Constitution and thwart American policy. In wartime, that sedition is treasonous.

The so-called anti-war movement in the 1960s was decided PRO-North Vietnamese Communist military. Jane Fonda, The Weather Underground, they all pledged their support and engaged in naked treason.

Militant Islam is also a reality.

The new “witchhunt” is the demonization of the Tea Party as “violent” “racists”.

Robinson and his ilk are the red menace. Islam has made an unholy alliance with the Left to destroy the West. Satan and Lucifer are on the loose.

Gene, you think the red menace was all made up? Read up on the Verona papers. In the meantime, check out what’s happening in England and tell me that Sharia law can never take hold here...

Eugene Robinson. That byline tells me what the column will say. In this case, that Newt Gingrich (and conservatives) are just political iterations of Chicken Little, worrying about something that could never really happen. Like legalized gay marriage and homosexuality being taught to elementary school children by mandate or the near-abolition of Jesus in Christmas displays or the free election of a Marxist as U.S. president. That kind of crazy stuff. In short: nothing to see here folks. Just move along.

Sorry Gene, we've wised up and are fed up. Sharia law is real as is the intent of assertive Muslims to see it implemented here. Snide wisecracks won't alter reality and the reality is that we have a big problem with Muslims that seem to want to impose their barbaric, 6th century 'law' on Americans. That will not happen.

Keep smirking, Gene. You'll be without a column or a newspaper to put it in soon enough as Obama crashes the economy while you applaud. Idiot.

It’s funny how the media tries to make us think that sharia law is some new and fresh idea from the enlightened middle east, and us rubes in flyover country will warm up to it once we shed our prejudices and embrace ancient bedouin tribal law as superior to that crap written down by dead old white guys.

Robinson is as clueless as Kristof. From yesterday’s “Best of the Web”:

Kristof draws a false and offensive equivalence between Islamic extremists and American “extremists.” The latter, when something in the newspaper offends them, complain in a “courteous and polite” fashion, according to the Portland editor. The former, as in the case of cartoonist Molly Norris, issue religious edicts threatening death. (President Obama, champion of the First Amendment for Muslims, remains conspicuously silent about Norris’s plight.)

We agree with Kristof that the Portland publisher’s apology was a pathetic overreaction. But no one is in hiding as a result of the complaining Mainers—not the publisher, not the reporter who wrote the story, not the Muslim leader who was profiled in the Sept. 11 piece and “said that as an American Muslim, he has a sense of belonging that eclipses the hostility of the Rev. Terry Jones, the pastor in Florida who threatened to burn copies of the Quran,” according to the Press Herald.

The important thing to understand here is that Islamic affirmative action only incidentally concerns Islam or Muslims. It is really about the moral exhibitionism of liberal elitists like Kristof, who love trumpeting their enlightenment and open-mindedness and sneering at the sensibilities of ordinary Americans. It never occurs to them that in doing so, it is they who are acting like bigots.

Like moral idiots, too. Consider this passage from Kristof’s column:

“Radicals tend to empower radicals, creating a gulf of mutual misunderstanding and anger. Many Americans believe that Osama bin Laden is representative of Muslims, and many Afghans believe that the Rev. Terry Jones (who talked about burning Korans) is representative of Christians.”

How balanced, how even-handed. Kristof condemns extremists on both sides! Except that “their” extremist is a mass murderer, while “ours” merely talked about engaging in offensive symbolic speech. Kristof doesn’t note that Jones’s Koran-burning plan was condemned by almost all Americans, or that whatever harm it did could have been ameliorated had the media—including Kristof’s paper—refrained from publicizing it.

In another attempt at balance, Kristof acknowledges a string of Islamic outrages: “theocratic mullahs oppressing people in Iran; girls kept out of school in Afghanistan in the name of religion; girls subjected to genital mutilation in Africa in the name of Islam; warlords in Yemen and Sudan who wield AK-47s and claim to be doing God’s bidding.” He does not list any comparable actions by American “extremists,” because there aren’t any.

Kristof concludes:

“But I’ve also seen the exact opposite: Muslim aid workers in Afghanistan who risk their lives to educate girls; a Pakistani imam who shelters rape victims; Muslim leaders who campaign against female genital mutilation and note that it is not really an Islamic practice; Pakistani Muslims who stand up for oppressed Christians and Hindus; and above all, the innumerable Muslim aid workers in Congo, Darfur, Bangladesh and so many other parts of the world who are inspired by the Koran to risk their lives to help others. Those Muslims have helped keep me alive, and they set a standard of compassion, peacefulness and altruism that we should all emulate.”

“I’m sickened when I hear such gentle souls lumped in with Qaeda terrorists, and when I hear the faith they hold sacred excoriated and mocked. To them and to others smeared, I apologize.”

Fair enough. But what about gentle American souls—the kind of people who take offense at the idea of building a fancy “Islamic center” adjacent to the cite of an Islamic supremacist atrocity, or who complain politely to a newspaper that offends their sensitivities? In slandering them as bigots, nuts and extremists, Kristof lumps them in with al Qaeda. He owes Americans, not Muslims, an apology.
