I hear you, and I think your observation is valid, except I believe that Palin does these sorts of things on instinct. At the same time, she's a savvy operator and seems to have a good mind for grand vision and large, long term strategies.
I believe that her natural courage leads her in the direction of what's best for the greatest number of people. Sadly, in a world such as ours, it actually takes real courage to steadfastly do and say what's right, but that's exactly what she does.
I think she can also be calculating, but where that's all some politicians are (BJ Clinton), it's only one dimension of Sarah Palin.
