Doheny Win Sets Up Three-Way Race in N.Y. 23
CQ ^ | 9/14/10 | John McArdle

Posted on 09/14/2010 9:41:14 PM PDT by paudio

Businessman Matt Doheny's GOP primary victory Tuesday night sets Republicans up for a case of déjà vu in upstate New York's 23rd district.

Doheny led accountant Doug Hoffman 53 percent to 47 percent when the race was called with just over 93 percent reporting.

But Hoffman holds the Conservative Party line and has promised to campaign through November. That would create the same scenario that helped Rep. Bill Owens (D) win last year's special election against Hoffman and Republican nominee Dede Scozzafava.

I thank Hoffman for what he did last cycle, but now I hope he withdraw from the race to prevent Owens from winning again.

Give it up Hoffman (and I agree) 100%.

“I thank Hoffman for what he did last cycle, but now I hope he withdraw from the race to prevent Owens from winning again.”

Very well-stated. I think that perhaps Hoffman has worn out his welcome. Pity, as Doheny isn’t a great candidate.

I think it’s time for Doug to stand down. The people have made a selection, and he should support defeating the CommieCrate.

I might have this wrong, but I thought that I read somewhere that he would withdraw.

Pity, as Doheny isn’t a great candidate.

He's not a great conservative (he's okay), but he did run a terrific campaign.

Bad move, Hoffmam. If you EVER want to be the Congressman from that district, WITHDRAW NOW!

Doug Hoffman is straight from central casting. I can’t think
of a single GOP candidate who has less charisma, less speaking skills, and more ugly. He is a good conservative but a lousy
candidate.

Scozzafava was selected in a backroom by RINO pencil pushers. Doheny was chosen by the voters.
I wish Hoffman would have won the race, but he didn’t.
This time, he needs to sit it out.
If he can’t win among Republicans, then he’s certainly not going to win in November.
At this point he serves no honorable purpose, he is just a spoiler.

Now now... that's not the way to ask a person to withdraw from the race, is it? LOL

Except this year nobody will support Hoffman, because he’s just a sore loser and we have a reasonable republican candidate chosen by a primary.

What Hoffman lacks is the moxie appeal. Take Chris Christie-a large person in body shape but with fire in the belly. Hoffman may be a good conservative but people are drawn to a candidate who has some passion and fire plus Doug looks a little wimpy too. It just is what it ‘beees’.

maybe if Doheny apologizes for supporting Owens last fall (after Dede dropped out), that would be a good first step on helping the party up there make sense of all of this.

That is what pisses me off. Doug got virtually ZERO GOP support as retaliation for last year. Doheny: Two BUI. And has wall street written all over him.

Sadly, my old homies have chosen establishment over substance.

But, that being said, Doheny can win.

Hoffman was the vanguard and he helped all of us see the RINO colors. I hope he withdraws so that he can help win Congress and stop Obama.
Thank you for what you did, a kind of a John the Baptist who went ahead of the others.

So why is everyone on this thread supporting this Doheny if he is just another Scozzafava?
