WASHINGTON — The Senate on Monday opens its first impeachment trial since the 1999 case against former President Bill Clinton when it takes up a host of corruption allegations against a Louisiana judge.

The House voted unanimously in March to impeach U.S. District Judge G. Thomas Porteous, approving four charges involving payoffs, kickbacks and lying under oath. A two-thirds vote is needed in the Senate to convict him.

Well, I’m in favor of removing enough Federal Judges of the sloppy, corrupt and tyrannical sort by means of impeachment, for that stable needs be swept out mightily.

The last impeached and convicted judge went straight to Congress:

>> Alcee Lamar Hastings (born September 5, 1936) is a member of the United States House of Representatives representing Florida’s 23rd congressional district (map). A Representative since 1993 and a Democrat, Hastings was previously a lawyer and judge. He spent ten years as a federal judge (1979–1989), but was impeached and removed from office for corruption and perjury. He was the sixth federal judge to be impeached and removed from office in American history. <<

Of course his open minded non biased electorate put him in Congress...just like they are going to try to keep their other shinning star in the White House.

I pointed this out to one of my liberal buddies the other day and said how is this not a racially biased matter i.e. how blacks historically back black candidates with almost a 95% approval rating, no matter how bad they are. The answer:
you are racist just to think that way.

The beat goes on.

Hastings was impeached and convicted by a majority of Democrats in both Houses. Even Black Caucus members voted against him. His ability to run for office was maintained only by explicit affirmative action. The prior impeached judge, elderly Republican Walter Nixon had been spared the optional ban from future office by soft headed RINOs, so the Rats insisted on the same for Hastings. Those that voted him too bad for the bench refuse vote to expel him as too bad to be their buddy.

Well, according to wikipedia, Walter Nixon was a Democrat (appointed by LBJ), and both houses of Congress were held by Democrats, so I’m not sure why you blame this on “soft-headed RINOs.”

The Wiki doesn’t go into why or even whether Nixon wasn’t barred from office. I may have confused my story with the other, less memorably named, judge removed around that time, Harry Claiborne. He was also a Democrat judge impeached by a Democrat House, but was convicted by a GOP Senate. As all GOP Senates have had RINO leadership (going back to at least Ike and probably to Hoover or further) squishy RINOs could have been to blame then. I’m certain that Hastings not being barred from future office was the result of an explicit affirmative action claim because it hadn’t been applied to a recent old white guy judge impeached. Prior to Claiborne, Nixon and Hastings no one had been impeached for fifty years so it had to be one of those two. I’m forgetting the RINO involvement details but believe there were some. I probably learned them from Coulter’s impeachment book, but don’t have time to check it just now. Ann wouldn’t be shy about RINO bashing and I learned most of my impeachment trivia there.
