VANCOUVER (Reuters) - Canadian authorities unloaded a cramped cargo ship on Friday of nearly 500 Tamil asylum seekers from Sri Lanka whose arrival has sparked a national debate over the country's immigration and refugee laws.
The sun was just rising on Pacific Coast when MV Sun Sea sailed under escort into a Canadian Navy base near Victoria, British Columbia, on Vancouver Island, and docked next to a makeshift camp set up to process the men, women and children on board.
Officials said the ship was in good condition, but they would not describe the accommodations of the estimated 490 people who may have spent more than two months housed in the cargo hold of the 59-meter-long (194-foot-long) vessel

No need, there are plenty of Liberal Party affiliated “immigration lawyers” to do that job.
They should be rerouted to Mexico. It is an empty country in need of undesirable immigrants, since all their residents have moved to the US.

Fully Agree. Send them to Mexico. Canada has no refugee or immigration laws. The rest of the world laughs at the Canadians. This boat was turned away by the australians who have finally woke up. So when the aussies said No, there next choice was Canuckistan. They knew they could get in their no questions asked, but obviously favoured aussie land due to the weather. Anybody can get into canada, especially if you come in as a refugee. They’ll bring their infectious diseases. They’ll be fed, clothed, nurtured and given subsidized housing, welfare and a pension. It is far better to be a refugee or canadian of convenience than a real Canadian who was worked, struggled and paid taxes. What is their reward? Pay for the lousy, low life sponging refugee. There are quarter of a million tamils in toronto. You can bet McGuinty will allow the ones that just landed in BC in with open arms. That is where they will end up and that is why you are not hearing complaints from the citizens of B.C. Just this McGuinty agreed to give low income refugee Canadians of conveniece breaks when paying their hyrdo bills, at the expense of the white english middle class. He has hiked things so bad he knows low incomers won’t pay their heating bills, so he will take more from the middle class to make sure they are covered. What a sad sack bunch of people ontario voters are.

How much of that money went to Government officials to allow boat to anchor in Canadian territorial waters? According to Maritime law, this boat should not be allowed in Canadian waters at all. Somebody let them disembark.
