Afghan Women and the Return of the Taliban
Time magazine ^ | July 29, 2010 | Aryn Baker

Posted on 07/30/2010 7:20:37 AM PDT by BAW

The Taliban pounded on the door just before midnight, demanding that Aisha, 18, be punished for running away from her husband's house. Her in-laws treated her like a slave, Aisha pleaded. They beat her. If she hadn't run away, she would have died. Her judge, a local Taliban commander, was unmoved. Aisha's brother-in-law held her down while her husband pulled out a knife. First he sliced off her ears. Then he started on her nose.

This didn't happen 10 years ago, when the Taliban ruled Afghanistan. It happened last year. Now hidden in a secret women's shelter in Kabul, Aisha listens obsessively to the news. Talk that the Afghan government is considering some kind of political accommodation with the Taliban frightens her. "They are the people that did this to me," she says, touching her damaged face. "How can we reconcile with them?"

Savages

As an American woman, I can't fathom the life these poor women have. The world should be sickened by the way these savages treat human beings - even though they think of women lower than dogs. It's a good thing I don't have any authority because with my blood boiling as it is I would bomb every mountain in that God forsaken place and hunt down every last one of these sub-humans until they were only a bad memory. The world should be ashamed at letting this type of thing happen - not only in Afghanistan but ANYWHERE!

Where’s the outrage by “moderate” Muslims? How can they remain mute when this kind of behavior exists? Personally, I think the Moderate Muslim is a myth proffered by the Left to make us think that we can “win them over”. Bull $hit. These are savages living a warrior code from fifteen hundred years ago. They have no place in the modern world.

Pagan savages. Oh, they’re muslim...hmmmmmm. Therefore, their god is imaginary, created in their own minds in order to justify the acts of...pagan savages.

I am not a feminist. BUT this really makes me angry!!!

Retaining complete and permanent control over women is the ONLY reason the Taliban and other fundamentalist Muslim groups fight to get and keep power. PERIOD

Wow! I’m stunned that Time would publish this. Maybe there’s hope yet.

I wish these so-called “feminist” groups would come to their senses and see that their support for Islamic radicals, which is essentially what they are giving because of their own inexplicable hatred of the US, is going to bring down horror on the lives of millions of women.

And Afghanistan will only be the first place; Taliban success in Afghanistan will extend itself to any place where there are Muslims and will eventually affect all of us.

That poor girl!

I realize Time is only covering this to save Obama’s butt (they would never have covered this during Bush’s presidency), but I’m glad that someone in the MSM is FINALLY showing people that the Taliban is simply evil.

God have mercy on these poor women who are subjected to treatment like that. The same treatment should be given to any low life, subhuman Taliban monster who does this sort of thing.

I totally agree with you. We are pussy footin around over there. Either wipe them out or get out. Remember the old saying? “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink it”. It’s the same with those people and they will never change in our life time. It amazes me that the authorities can’t even handle the gang elements in our own cities but they think they can change thousands of years of their culture.

I am sick of pussy footin! And, that joke of the United Nations should hang their heads for doing absolutely NOTHING for these women but, all they are interested in is getting their parking tickets fixed and ordering lunch on my dime! Disgraceful. The American government should be ashamed and should be standing on their chairs screaming at the outrageous and unthinkable behavior or these savages. I don't care how many years this has gone on, it is time to wipe their miserable faces off the earth.

Of course the excesses of the Taliban must be weighed against the ruthlessness of the Americans...or so the Left believes. US Troops, Zabul, Afghanistan

Not being a feminist is why you are angry. You are a human. Feminist have run from critisizing islum for the past 40 years. They much prefer critisizing Christians and Republicans. Truth be told, they are probably envious of the Talibans tactics.

BEFORE the USA went into Afghanistan in 2001, Jay Leno’s wife Mavis
did a lot of appearances on Los Angeles talk radio, exposing the
evils visted on women in the radical Islamic world.

Funny, she basically disappeared after Dubya (and a few good men
and women) improved the lot of Afghani women.

I guess giving credit to a Republican administration for improving
the lot of women was just something Mavis didn’t want to talk about.
