TEHRAN (AFP) – Egypt has denied visas to four Iranian lawmakers who planned to travel to the Israeli-blockaded Gaza Strip, Iran’s Press TV reported on Wednesday.

“The Egyptian government has stonewalled the visa process... no visa has been issued for the MPs as of yet,” Mahmoud Ahmadi Bighash, one of the four lawmakers, was quoted as saying by the English-language television’s website.

Iran Revolutionary Guards ready to escort Gaza ships

Iran Revolutionary Guards ready to escort Gaza ships 06 Jun 2010 12:40:35 GMT Source: Reuters TEHRAN, June 6 (Reuters) - Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards are ready to provide a military escort to cargo ships trying to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza, a representative of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Sunday.

“Iran’s navy forces are ready to escort the peace flotilla to Gaza with all their powers and capabilities,” Ali Shirazi, Khamenei’s representative inside the Revolutionary Guards, was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Any intervention by the Iranian military would be considered highly provocative by Israel which accuses Iran of supplying weapons to Hamas, the Islamist movement which rules Gaza.

The Guards, with their own navy, air force and command structure separate from the regular armed forces, are seen as fiercely loyal to the values of the Islamic Republic.

“If the Supreme Leader issues an order for this then the Revolutionary Guard naval forces will do their best to secure the ships,” Shirazi said. “It is Iran’s duty to defend the innocent people of Gaza.”

NYC BOAT EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED(Flotilla named “Audacity of Hope”-funds raised by Rashid Khalidi)
US to Gaza ^ | 07-22-2010
Posted on July 22, 2010 11:07:42 PM PDT by autumnraine

STATEMENT

Dear Friends,

This is an important moment in history. In the aftermath of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla massacre and increased world-wide scrutiny of Israel’s blockade of Gaza, the Israeli government has mounted a huge public relations campaign spreading the lie that by letting a few more items into Gaza the blockade has been lifted. This is not the reality. Gaza is still under siege, vital building materials and other supplies are banned, exports of goods from Gaza are denied and neither ships nor people can travel without permission from Israel, permission which Israel will not give. Gaza is essentially an open-air prison under a U.S.-backed Israeli blockade.

We are planning to launch a U.S. boat to Gaza, joining a flotilla of ships from Europe, Canada, India, South Africa and parts of the Middle East due to set sail in September/ October of this year. In order to succeed in this essential but costly human rights project, we need significant financial support.

Citizens around the world have responded to the plight of the Palestinian people and are taking action to help break the blockade which is suffocating the lives of the people of Gaza and denying them their liberty. The U.S. government is complicit through established policies that uncritically support Israel in its brutal attack on the Palestinian people and on those who attempt to intervene on their behalf. We in the United States must continue to step up and do our part. We must join with others from across the world to support an end to the collective punishment of 1.5 million Palestinians in Gaza.

We turn to you to help make the U.S. boat, The Audacity of Hope, a reality. We must raise at least $370,000 in the next month. These funds will be used to purchase a boat large enough for 40-60 people, secure a crew, and cover the licensing and registering of the boat. In addition, the funds will subsidize some other costs of sending a U.S. delegation. We can make this happen together. For example, with 370 people giving $1,000, or with 3,700 people giving $100, we will have raised our full amount.

We have already received donations ranging from $10 to $10,000. So, give what you can and give generously. From the deck of The Audacity of Hope, we will be in a powerful and unique position to challenge U.S. foreign policy and affirm the universal obligation to uphold human rights and international law. Let us act now because every moment counts and every dollar counts. Together we will contribute to the great effort to end the blockade of Gaza and the illegal occupation of Palestine.

Please spread this appeal letter far and wide, so that others will contribute as well.

Thank you for your generosity.

Americans organizing ship for Gaza flotilla ( Boat named “Audacity of hope” )
JTA ^ | July 21st

Americans opposed to Israel’s naval blockade of the Gaza Strip are organizing a ship from the United States to take part in an international flotilla.

The flotilla, set to sail to Gaza in September or October, will be made up of ships from India, Europe, Canada, South Africa and the Middle East. The organizers hope to name the American ship The Audacity of Hope, after President Obama’s second autobiographical book.

“Yasser Qashlaq, the Lebanese flotilla organizer, claims the ships will soon set sail for the Gaza Strip. Syria and Hezbollah are involved. Considering Qashlaq’s anti-Semitic stance and links to terrorism, he apparently wants a violent confrontation (possibly contrary to the wishes of many of the passengers).”

“The Shine is Off the Divestment Movement”

SNIPPET: “The “Boycott, Divestment, Sanction” (BDS) movement aimed at Israel has attempted to portray itself as a humanitarian organization whose mission is to:

“call upon international civil organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel, similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era, until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with international law.”

But a video the Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg highlights paints BDS, in the words of the narrator, as “a venomous, deceitful, anti-peace, anti co-existence movement, that will settle for nothing short of the annihilation of the Jewish State.”

The video, posted on YouTube, contrasts BDS calls for peace and cooperation with evidence of a consistent pattern of criticizing attempts at Palestinian-Israeli cooperation and reconciliation. Whether the attempts were educational, economic, or artistic, BDS has stood in the way.”

“Israeli Military Chief: Flotilla Passengers Fired First”

by IPT News
Aug 11, 2010 at 1:31 pm

SNIPPET: “New information surrounding the May 31st flotilla raid was revealed on Wednesday during the testimony of the Israeli army’s Chief of Staff, Gabi Ashkenazi, in front of the Turkel Commission. Ashkenazi’s testimony followed statements made on Monday by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and on Tuesday by Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

An Israeli commando was shot in the stomach while rappelling down to board the Mavi Marmara ship, forcing him to respond with pistol fire, Ashkenazi told the panel. An examination of bullet remnants did not match those of Israeli weapons, indicating that the IHH activists on board the ship had guns.

“The soldiers justifiably opened fire” in response, Ashkenazi said. “They opened fire at those they needed to, and didn’t at those they didn’t need to.

Israel did not have sufficient information about IHH – the Turkish Islamic charity that sponsored the Mavi Marmara ship, he said. According to Israeli intelligence sources, IHH planted 40 operatives on the ship to stage a violent confrontation with Israelis. The U.S. State Department has acknowledged that IHH has ties to Hamas. The organization is also a member of the Union of the Good, an organization designated by the U.S. Treasury in 2008 due to its fund-raising activities on behalf of Hamas.

“The soldiers aboard the Marmari (sic) displayed courage and purity of arms,” Ashkenazi said, “and responded correctly to the dangers they faced.””

SNIPPET: “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended the May 31st Israeli commando raid on the Turkish IHH-sponsored Mavi Marmara ship during testimony Monday before the Turkel Committee. That’s the inquiry established to examine Israel’s conduct in response to an international flotilla aimed to break the blockade on Gaza.

“I am convinced that at the end of your investigation, it will be clear that the State of Israel and the Israel Defense Forces conducted themselves in accordance with international law,” Netanyahu told the committee.

He spoke about the serious threat the Hamas government poses to Israel, Hamas’ kidnapping of Gilad Shalit in 2006 and the necessity of preventing weapons from entering Hamas-controlled Gaza.

The Israeli PM later explained that IHH activists announced their intention to provoke a confrontation and that Israel worked to prevent a conflict with Turkey prior to the incident:

“Beginning on May 14, my office was in contact with the highest echelons of the Turkish government…to prevent any conflict with the Mavi Marmara flotilla. Despite our ongoing diplomatic efforts, ultimately the Turkish government did not prevent the Marmara’s attempt to break the naval blockade.””

I notice Rashid Khalidi's name on the list there of nutcases and Hamas lovers there. For those who don't recognize the name:

Not only does Barack Obama's church of 20 years support Hamas and Hezbollah but Barack Obama also has a long close friendship and financial association with suspected former PLO operative and Israel hater Rashid Khalidi. Last night Sean Hannity dared to report Barack and Michelle Obama's radical associate and friend: Barack Obama funnelled thousands of dollars of cash to Rashidi's anti-Israel Foundation through his work on the Woods Fund.
Although he is described as a former PLO operative, via Free Republic, this is what Rashid Khalidi has to say about Palestinian terrorism against Jews:

On Palestinian violence. Khalidi glorifies anti-Israel violence as contributing to “political enlightenment”[vii] and unsurprisingly admires those who carry it out. His loyalty to Palestinian terrorist groups run so deep that he actually dedicated his 1986 valentine to the PLO, Under Siege, to “those who gave their lives . . . in defense of the cause of Palestine and independence of Lebanon.”[viii] The book whitewashes PLO violence against Israelis and Lebanese, as well as the Syrian occupation.

Rashid Khalidi is associated with the White House party crashers/security breachers that were allowed to get into a state dinner honoring Indian leader... and muslim terrorists are no friends of India:

2009 : () Not only did they pose for a previous photo with Barack Obama, one of them, Tareq Salahi, has ties to some of the same radical Arab interests that backed Obama.
WorldNetDaily reports that Tareq Salahi served on the board of the American Task Force for Palestine (ATFP), where Columbia University Professor Rashid Khalidi served as vice president. Khalidi was a close friend and associate of Obama. Judi McLeod of the Canada Free Press has a Google cache identifying Tareq Salahi as a member of the ATFP.
Amid all the questions about the actions of the Salahis, it must also be asked if they were waved into the event by a White House staffer aware of their connections to Obama. Snip
Of paramount interest is the possible connection of Tareq Salahi to Khalidi—a connection that could have been a factor in his entry into the White House.
According to the article in World Net Daily, titled “White House Gatecrashers tied to terror sympathizers,” Khalidi “has called Israel an ‘apartheid system in creation’ and a destructive ‘racist’ state. He has multiple times expressed support for Palestinian terror, calling suicide bombings a response to ‘Israeli aggression.’ The article further states that “Khalidi said he supported Obama for president ‘because he is the only candidate who has expressed sympathy for the Palestinian cause.’” So while the Salahis, according to CNN, are named in 16 civil lawsuits, and are clearly guilty of seeking their 15 minutes of fame, perhaps to help get out from under their legal and financial problems, it seems premature to convict them of this security breach.(Excerpt) Read more at canadafreepress.com ...

Khalidi held a fundraiser in 2000 for Obama’s failed bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In 2001, the Woods Fund, a Chicago-based nonprofit that describes itself as a group helping the disadvantaged, provided a $40,000 grant to the Arab American Action Network, or AAAN, at which Khalidi’s wife, Mona, serves as president.
The [Woods] Fund provided a second grant to AAAN for $35,000 in 2002,” and Obama was a director of this fund. “Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund’s website. According to tax filings, Obama received compensation of $6,000 per year for his service in 1999 and 2000.” -————http://www.jewishpress.com/displayContent_new.cfm?contentid=30283&mode=a&sectionid=1&contentname=Obama_Served_On_Board_That_Funded_Pro-Palestinian_Group&recnum=1

[Rashid] Khalidi’s wife Mona ran the Chicago area charity, the Arab American Action Network, that received substantial assistance from the Woods Fund, a left wing foundation that Obama and unreconstructed terrorist Bill Ayers were Board members. The AAAN was notorious for its pro-Palestianian sympathies. -——— “The Obama-Khalidi Connection,” American Thinker, 10/4/08 by Rick Moran , Posted on Saturday, October 04, 2008 4:21:24 PM by pissant

FLOTILLA UPDATE:

“Barak seeks foreign help in stopping Gaza flotilla”

SNIPPET: “Defense minister shows he’s learned lesson from Turkel questioning, asks US, French officials to prevent aid vessel’s departure from Lebanon”

SNIPPET: “Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Saturday he had spoken via telephone with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, US National Security Advisor Jim Jones and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner and requested that they prevent the departure of the Gaza aid flotilla from Lebanon.

This is Barak’s second press release in the last two days, and comes just a few weeks after he testified before the Turkel Committee, when he appeared to pass off responsibility for the flotilla fiasco onto the IDF. This time, it seems the defense minister is demonstrating that he has learned the lesson and is making every effort to prevent similar occurrences in the future.”
