BELL, Calif. – Three administrators whose huge salaries sparked outrage in this small blue-collar suburb of Los Angeles have agreed to resign, the City Council said Friday.

Council members emerged from an hours-long closed session at midnight Friday and announced that they'd accepted the resignations of Chief Administrative Officer Robert Rizzo, Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia and Police Chief Randy Adams.

Rizzo was the highest paid at $787,637 a year — nearly twice the pay of President Barack Obama — for overseeing one of the poorest towns in Los Angeles County.

Spaccia makes $376,288 a year and Adams earns $457,000, 50 percent more than Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck.

Rizzo would be entitled to a state pension of more than $650,000 a year for life, according to calculations made by the Times. That would make Rizzo, 56, the highest-paid retiree in the state pension system.

Rizzo is obviously an Italian name, so is Spaccia. That’s two out of the three named at top.

How did anyone not know how much they were making?

I am wondering the same thing. Why the sudden excitement? I live in SoCal and this story is at the top of the news, morning-noon-and-night. They even showed the citizens of Bell, so poor they line up for blocks for free food. How and why was the total corruption of city government suddenly revealed?

LaCosanostra?! Bell being between Compton and East LA, maybe it took Mafia enforcers to “mamage” the city-folks.

Most, if not all, Bell city council members have hispanic names. They are also in on the gravy train. I mean, 6-figure salaries in a town of approx. 30K inhabitants?!!

But the larger context is that this nation’s government was founded on and by volunteers. The original members of Congress legislated part-time and gratis while following their given profession full-time.

We have gone WAY off course.

If most of the residents are poorer working class then who is paying the taxes. The local businesses must have something to gain because they have the money and ability to make fuss a let the voters know. There must be more to this story.

They put it on the ballot and the IGNORNANT public voted for it. This is not a solitary type item. The left has been doing this for years.

Maybe we better wise up.

"They cut a deal. The city council called a referendum in 2005 to decide whether or not Bell would be a "charter city" under California law. 400 people in a town of 37,000 actually voted and the vote was in favor. "

THIS IS WHY IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO VOTE IN PRIMARIES PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS COMMON! LESS THAN 10% of the eligible voters vote in primaries- so YOUR VOTE IS WORTH 10 TIMES AS MUCH!!!

SOME OF THESE CANDIDATES WIN JUST BECAUSE ALL THEIR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES GO OUT AND VOTE
