Tea Party Leader: NAACP Is Playing the Race Card (Tea Party Express Disowned on Nat'l TV)
CBS News ^ | Sunday, July 18, 2010

Posted on 07/18/2010 11:13:40 AM PDT by kristinn

A co-founder of Tea Party 365 today denounced what he called the NAACP's "selective racism," claiming that the organization was condemning figures who are not part of the Tea Party movement.

SNIP

Webb said self-policing is the right and responsibility of any movement or organization and added, "That is what we do." He said Williams has been expelled from the National Tea Party Federation, "because of the letter that he wrote which he, I guess, may have considered satire but which was clearly offensive."

In the letter posted on marktalk.com but since removed, Williams wrote a letter to Abraham Lincoln in the voice of blacks decrying emancipation, saying that slavery was "a good gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house."

"I denounce any acts that I see many leaders do," said Webb, but suggested that for Jealous to say such acts were representative of millions of Tea Party members is "blatantly false."

Webb said the NACCP is "simply playing the race card."

Jealous thanked Webb for talking publicly against such racist comments by organization members. "You are the only national Tea Party leader who I've seen come out and publicly state the things that you stated, and taking on Mark Williams was much appreciated...

"But you're also being disingenuous, when you say that a man who is a founder of Tea Party Express, who is on TV as a national spokesman, hasn't been a Tea Party leader. He absolutely was. He was the day that he wrote that vile note penned in my name saying that President Lincoln was the biggest racist ever because slavery was a good gig. Thank you for following through.

"I sort of did you a favor to draw this guy out!" Jealous added.

Video of the segment with David Webb and Ben Jealous on Face the Nation can be viewed here.

My transcription of Webb's comments about the Tea Party Express:

"We in the last twenty-four hours have expelled Tea Party Express and Mark Williams from the National Tea Party Federation because of the letter that he wrote which he, I guess, may have considered satire but which was clearly offensive. And that is what we do. Self-policing is the right and the responsibility of any movement or organization. I denounce any acts that I see, many leaders do. And for Mr. Jealous to say that these elements--when millions have been out there-- represent the tea party is blatantly false and they're simply playing the race card."

Press release by the National Tea Party Federation announcing the expulsion of Tea Party Express and Mark Williams.

It’s almost as if the Tea Party Federation, whatever that is, is drying to divide people.

All the cards in the NAACP;s pack are spades. What other card are going to play. AS long as the Tea Party can still call a spade a spade, people won’t get too confused about the game.

They are trying to make the Tea Party a “group” or a “party”- it is NOT. And the very LAST thing any of us should be doing is reacting to every little imagined slight that the NAACP THINKS it detects or, not having seen, BELIEVES is coming from the right. Funny how they don’t “see” the PLANK in their OWN EYE- the black panthers and the nation of islam.

What we SHOULD be doing, is making a collective roar of “SHUT THE F@#$ UP!”...to them, the enviroloons, the politicians, the nannies, the whiners, the pinched-nosed sissies...

More satire, more ridicule, more scorn, and more laughter needs to be generated against the NAACP. If the NAACP wants honest debate, then that is to be welcomed. If the NAACP wants to stand back and claim racism without having to back it up, then the NAACP should be subject to such ridicule that its members will replace the leadership.

I just noticed that this is CNN.com's lead now.

Yeah. I guess we do eat our own.

There goes the Tea Party.

Almost as if? It is. NO ONE PERSON or FORMAL GROUP speaks for the Tea Party.

The so-called “Tea Party Federation” just by such a claim, shows itself NOT part of the Tea Party.

When you're backed in the corner with no place left to go, you pull out your most vile and effective weapons...unfortunately for the NAACP the equivilent of calling someone "do-do head", i.e. "racist", is all they've got.

My question is, how does the NAACP "disown" something they would have never "owned" in the first place.

Personally, I don't give a flying iota what the NAACP says about the TEA party...the members and followers of the TEA party movement know what the NAACP is up to...the NAACP will not cause them to desert the TEA party movment.

The other liberals/progressives were probably never going to join the TEA party movement anyway...so exactly WHO are they disowning them from. Seems to me the team tally on the NAACP vs the TEA party movement will not change, and the TEA party movement will REMAIN the left's biggest threat in 2010, AND in 2012.

It's just posturing...threats and intimidation in the same spirit as the New black panther party. They are so convinced by their "community organizers" that we will shudder in fear at the very sight of them that they can "boo" us into submission.

What is all amounts to is a National Riot; routing the streets to protest against some strawman issue while the raid the stores of the latest flat-screen TV's...but in this case, it's government stimulus checks they're raiding.

Stand you're ground America, we've got them outnumbered and surrounded.

They're making up stuff that didn't happen, like obama is making up the presidency as he goes along. Idiots, all.

Draem

Turn the tables . .. ask Jealous if there’s racism within his membership, and if so, name names and what’s been done about it?

And if he says “no” then he’s a liar. Plenty of evidence out there of racism, and that includes the NAACP’s love of racial quotas.

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Memphis Tea Party founder Mark Skoda and several other tea party leaders announced plans Thursday to form a national federation that would promote the movement’s conservative message and counter the idea that the tea parties are politically unsophisticated and disorganized.

Tea party leaders from Memphis, Nashville, Richmond, Va., and Orlando, Fla., along with representatives of several other groups, announced the new National Tea Party Federation during a rally outside the Minnesota Capitol. They said 21 tea party groups and 19 other organizations around the nation had joined the federation

Agreed, I had my ?’s about this guy with the Convention and all. He is definitely coming off as a self promoter.

By doing this supposed expulsion? of the letter writer, he does exactly what the constitution forbids.

He can demounce the letter and the writer, but he can not tell him what org he can belong to.

Looks like the TPM has a little demigod on it’s hands.

If you are TRUE TEA PARTY ... all this noise means NOTHING to you. Look at the mission, look at the core values, look at where you and the candidates stand based on those. You make your decision and vote. This isn’t about the NAACP or the Tea Party Express. This is about you and your decisions in a voting booth. And I know because I’M THE TEA PARTY LEADER! (Along with a few million others!).

About fifteen years ago a young BLACK woman I had known through business connections for a number of years told me,”It is time for the NAACP to get a new life and Jesse Jackson needs to shut up and go home”. She related a story about a family gathering where the usual whining about racism was going on. She said that she lost her temper and started chewing them all out, telling her family that the white man is not telling us what schools we can and cannot attend any longer, the white man is not keeping us from getting a job. The white man is certainly not forcing us to do drugs and commit crimes and shoot each other and I am sick and tired of hearing all this crap. Now that takes.....!
