The Campaign Spot: Harry Reid Really Can’t Get Above 43%, Can He?
National Review ^ | 07/15/2010 | Jim Geraghty

Posted on 07/15/2010 7:20:11 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

The good news for Republicans who want to see Harry Reid defeated is that he just denied that illegal immigrants do construction work in Nevada, people are renouncing him on their deathbed, and here’s his percentage of the vote in the last fourteen polls: 43, 40, 40, 40, 37, 42, 38, 40, 40, 42, 41, 39, 41, 43. (Now that’s consistent.)

The bad news for Republicans who want Reid gone that Sharron Angle’s lead ranges from ahead by 11 to trailing by 3. She usually leads modestly, around or just outside the margin of error. She’s the favorite, but for much of the year, this race looked on par with Indiana, North Dakota, Delaware, or other near-automatic GOP Senate pickups.

I’ve heard from several GOP folks who are grumbling that what ought to be a slam-dunk win against a pulverized Democrat is now a competitive race. By any measure — the state’s lousy economy, high unemployment, brutal housing market, Reid’s gaffes, his role in enacting the Obama agenda, the administration’s knee-jerk Las Vegas–bashing — the GOP challenger ought to be crushing him. Instead, the race is becoming less of a referendum on the incumbent and more of a contest of which side can better spotlight the other’s more controversial comments.

For now, the grumbling is relatively quiet, and every Republican with a hand in this race is rowing in the same direction. But if Harry Reid somehow manages to squeak by, there will be an enormous amount of recrimination among Nevada Republicans for nominating Angle.

Reid can’t get above 43% so his goal is to get Angle to 42%

It’s his only path to victory. winning with 43% of the vote.

NV people have been voting Reid for a generation. I don’t see them stopping their bad habits there. People there belive that Reid will save them from their own failures.

So, why doesn’t Ms. Angle open up a can of “whoop-ass,” and throw it at Harry Reid?

What’s the prob?

The problem with any race where the Republican is close to the Democrat: the Dems will cheat and take the election (see Al Franken and Christine Gregoire), even if the Republican comes out on election day a few votes ahead. When there’s a contested outcome, with the exception of Bush in 2000, the Dems always manage to come from behind and “win.”

With the destruction this bunch of communists have done he should be lower. Never second guess criminal communists what they can do. When he gets around 20 then I will feel more secure. I’m getting real tired of hearing that these criminals are socialists or Marxist. Politicians that work with King Obama and his communists are communists.

“People there belive that Reid will save them from their own failures.”

Where did you read that? From what I’ve read it seems that root canals are more popular in NV than Harry Reid. Angle is doing fine, she’s raising a lot of money and still leads Reid by at least 3 points after a highly publicized and hugely covered campaign swing by Obama this past weekend.

All of the “politically stupid voters” throughout the U.S. and world, all of the “politically ignorant voters” throughout the U.S. and world, and all of the “truly illegal voters (illegal immigrant voters, dead votes, and all other votes counted that really shouldn’t of been counted for a highly finite number of reasons)” throughout the U.S. and world really concern me! The entire world is becoming way too leftist, with no actual end in sight, despite the Tea Parties, despite the Internet, and despite all of the truth being explained over and over again throughout the world, by all willing non-leftists throughout the entire world! It’s very frustrating, and it’s very depressing!

I agree. Sharon Angle talking about unemployment insurance gave Reid the break Reid needed. Just like this illegal immigration comment gave Angle the break she needed.

Angle is learning slowly that she is running for election for a powerful position and can't just say everything that is on your mind, if you want to win. You don't talk about how unemployment compensation is bad because the unemployed don't want to work (it is a bit more complicated than that)during an election where your voters have 15% unemployment. Instead you talk about how democrats offer welfare to replace jobs to keep voters dependent on them, endlessly.

If this race remains this tight, turnout and voter fraud will be the key factors in the results.

Why do people continue voting for a politician who is KNOWN to craft policies that are HARMFUL to the country ? Answer — LAZINESS and IGNORANCE.

The fact that someone needs to raise millions of dollars to win an election simply shows how most voters don’t take the people they vote in seriously. The 30 second sound byte will do.

I can’t think of a better example that Don Imus ( Host of the popular “Imus in the Morning” show ) today.

He played a news clip of how Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), his congressman BTW, stiffed a taxi driver of 8 freaking bucks ( not paying him at all ), and how the Taxi Driver intends to fight Nadler to get what he was owed. Nadler of course, upon hearing of this, instead of simply paying the 8 bucks, gave excuse after excuse.

When someone asked Imus whether he voted for Nadler, his answer was “yes”. In fact Imus said : “ I voted for him even when I knew he was a no-good jerk.”.

The incredulous staffer then asked him — WHY ON EARTH DO YOU DO THAT ?

Imus’ answer might as well echo the answers of a lot of American Voters -— “Because I don’t know the names of everyone else on the ballot. I’ve never even heard of them. Why should I vote for someone I don’t know.”

I other words, people will vote for the devil they know rather than an unkown angel.

Which is no excuse of course. A good citizen will always take it upon himself to know the candidates who will represent him and where he stands on the issues.

If a public figure like Imus is as politically lazy and ignorant as he himself admits, guess how many percent of Americans are like him ....

Angle is a horrible candidate. I don’t care what anyone says. So is Rand Paul.

Foot in moth disease. Both of them.

The October Surprise Is Coming.

Ohaha ordered the DNC to send every Dem candidate a copy of the book: "Get
Sexier in Ninety Days." Robert Redford's showing Dems how to smolder before
crowds of voters.

Harry practices smoldering.

Sharon Angle is definitely a much more attractive candidate than Reid is. He is like Doctor Death. Not just his appearance but his voice.

re: How this humorless, depressed alkie/junkie ever got popular is the 8th wonder of the world.

To answer your question: Reid has been in the senate for 24 years. For many of those years Reid was a more moderate Democrat. He has definitely gone to the radical Left during the past decade, but he that was never the perception of him in the past. Meanwhile, the last time he ran for reelection he ran against a solid conservative candidate who had run a successful campaign in Nevada to define marriage as being between a man and a woman. Aside from only having a fraction of the campaign money compared to Reid, this candidate was considered by the RINOs in the state to be “too conservative” and “intolerant”. They supported Reid. Reid's campaign motto was, “Harry Reid: Independent, like Nevada”. He would tout his small town credentials and how he is such a good Mormon. A lot of people who didn't know better bought his lies. In the 1998 election Reid won reelection by only about 400 votes. The election was not contested, although I am sure that there were some illegal votes in the mix.

As the years have passed, Nevada population has gained more and more of three groups of voters who tend to vote Democrat: senior adults, Californians, and illegal aliens. Thus, Nevada, which was once a very conservative state, has become less conservative over the past few decades.

Which is exactly what is being said about Angle:

"TeapartylunaticfringeradicalrighttakeawayYOURRIGHTTOCHOOSESarahPalinsupporterohmygodwe'reallgoingtodieeeee!!!!!

Don't know whether it will work again, but they are sure sticking with the formula.
