And that is your prerogative. We happen to like that the landscaping is taken care of and the pools and docks are serviced and we don’t have to worry. It’s worth it to us. That’s what makes America so great.

It is thankless. We don’t get paid. What I find is that the people in good standing appreciate everything we do, and they let us know..it’s only the people who are a problem and/or not in good standing that don’t like us. How unusual! LOL! It doesn’t even matter. When you buy a home with an HOA you sign a piece of paper that says you will pay a certain amount every month and if you don’t, certain things will happen. You can’t gripe when “certain things happen.”

A patriot is a guy who rejoices that the system works when he gets a parking ticket. I suppose.

In my 6 decades on earth, I've never come across that expression before. I like it and will probably find it useful. So, thank you. Really.

One might think a good working relationship would imply a request rather than a totalitarian order “in the interest of making everybody equal.”

When the HOA nailed me, I didn't consider it a harsh order. Perhaps I should have used the term ``reminder'' rather than ``cited'' in my original message. In other words, it wasn't quite as strong as a ZOT from the HOA. Heh, heh, heh. :-)

The first round of foreclosures were those who weren’t monetarily qualified for their homes. Say what you will about them being “poor and underserving”, but the fact is they were given loans for homes which they couldn’t afford.

However, because of the almost depression in housing prices...and we may be on the edge of a housing depression now...many homes of those who could afford them when they bought them are underwater now. This was to be expected.

I heard a couple of months ago that those with more expensive homes would be walking away from them soon.

So...you laugh at others’ misfortune.

You are very interesting...

This thread has sure drifted far afield from the original subject -- but such is life on Usenet, err, FR.

The analogy is not within flaw but I see an HOA as similar to the posting rules here on Free Republic. Both are voluntary agreements (although funding HOA with dues is not by choice once the papers are signed unlike FR).

But both do have means to encourage adherence to the rules. If you don't like the HOA, move. If you don't like the rules here, log off or just post an Opus before the final adios. :-)

You are correct. It has drifted. My first point stands...the majority of defaulters I know are wealthy people who are just pissed because their investments aren’t when they were three years ago. They can pay, they just choose not to.

No sympathy from me, sorry.

HOAs suck blood from the carcasses. I’m unconvinced that any HOA is worth the dues.

Definitely deny that moocher common space to park his mobile home.....you mean a travel home really. Not on blocks or anything

So he is renting out his place out and you have no way of getting some of that rent going to his HOA fees? There are some states where this can be done. From his emotional state it sounds to me like he will be defaulting soon or be foreclosed on.

yup I read the whole thing. Rich people are not my gods. Unlike many on FR. The NYTimes article said what it said

“You’d be surprised at how many of those rich fat cats living high on the hog are just barely getting by.”

I’ve worked with people making around $150K/year that were living paycheck to paycheck. Never got how one could live like that.

Also, I wonder how many of these “millionaires” were simply in that category before all of their assets burst in the housing bubble? Two people I know had over $1M in real estate assets before the bubble burst ... now they are properties with no known value at this time as they are in those half-populated neighborhoods that sprung up during the housing boom.

‘It’s a mobile home, you drive it...it’s not like something that’s on a foundation...he drove it in that day! I’m going to assume you misunderstood that. Again, this was a mobile home he drove in that morning. His condo is a second home that he uses and rents out and makes money from while NOT PAYING US. I hope that clears that up.”

So quit then. It’s like working for the IRS. You knew the deal when you took the job.

My grandparents, what they ended up doing was getting everyone together and abolishing the HOA. Smartest thing the complex ever did.

They save on their monthly bills, the complex actually got some of the necessary building maintenance done, and the place looks much better than before.

Perhaps my experience is unusual, but their HOA did nothing, and before they were dissolved, had become the highest ongoing expense for everyone in the complex.

ok, ok, ok, it sounded like it had been sitting there for some time, as though the owner had no other place (like a rented spot in a trailer park). if there are other free parking spots on the complex, that’s even better.

anyhow I hope you called the police on the death threat. those are not funny. not one bit.

good ruck.

People like you are a reason I thank the Lord we don’t have any around here. I would have long since killed someone for the petty BS I see day in on the HOA threads. You are a perfect example of it and you probably don’t even see it.

Others have mentioned why and you just don’t even listen, just rattle on how you have the RIGHT to F over people because you can! I’d rather live in a cardboard box under an underpass than in a HOA!

I wonder if a lot of people who buy into these monstrosities, then are sorry later, mistakenly suppose that the HOA for the house they are in love with will never undergo mission creep. Then politics and ugly jealousies set in, people start hiring lawyers, and we have a turf war that would never have happened in a free neighborhood.

Grip what, the neck of an HOA fool getting in my face. That’s why I don’t live in an HOA area.

HOA’s have 1 purpose, to protect white flighters from riffraff. They inflate the housing costs so the undeseriables won’t or can’t be there. Anyone that thinks it’s anything else is fooling themselves.

HOA’s ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS end up in petty turf wars or uberNazis who love to order people around on their own property CAUSE THEY CAN. And they always claim the same old tired excuses, that it keeps the property values up.

You know, it ain’t my job to keep YOUR property value up. That belongs with “it takes a village” nonsense pushed by Hillary Clinton. Surprising how many “so-called” conservatives believe in HOA’s. I just don’t understand.

I live in a non-HOA area. It smells like freedom, not the iron boot they have.
