Obama tries to put Republicans on immigration hot seat
Washington Times ^ | Thursday, July 1, 2010 | By Stephen Dinan

On the hottest flash point in the debate, Arizona's new law targeting illegal immigrants, Mr. Obama said the rules are "unenforceable" for local police. But he didn't give any indication when the administration will file an expected lawsuit seeking to block the new law, which takes effect at the end of this month. ~ Advocates on both sides of the issue say they don't expect Congress to tackle the issue before the elections, both because of the already-crowded legislative schedule and because there is no clear consensus on how to proceed.

Key Republicans say the borders must be secured first before the government considers legalizing illegal immigrants, and they point to recent violent incidents — including the killing of an Arizona rancher — as evidence the border is still not under control.

But Democrats argue that legalizing illegal immigrants has to be done at the same time, both for practical reasons and because they fear if the borders are secured first, it might sap momentum from the push for legalization.

"Our borders are just too vast for us to be able to solve the problem only with fences and border patrols," Mr. Obama said. "It won't work."

When I’m found breaking the law, I’m punished.

When they’re found breaking the law, they’re allowed to get away with it.

And they’re lecturing us about how unfair this system is to them....

The Reps should welcome being on the “immigration hot seat.” The majority of Americans agree with us. They are against amnesty, want the border secured, and favor lower levels of legal immigration. I wonder if the “Stupid Party” will be smart enough to take a principled stand that is also the best one politically.

With the federal government’s lax attention to this problem, and the illegal immigrant spill that has pushed tens of millions of illegals into our country, where do Barack Obama and Joe Biteme get off at “lax” oversight of offshore drilling?

MR. PRESIDENT, PLUG THE HOLE ON THE BORDER!

Disingenuous, strawman... no one is suggesting that all is needed are fences and borders. I'm glad that the Dem posturing on this is no longer working. The American people have caught on.

O'dumbo is full of it up to this dumbo ears...For over a month, since the inititive was only announced it would be starting, illegals have been fleeing Arizona by droves.

That sounds a lot like it's working to me, Barry.

You don't WANT that to work, that's why you're trying to stop it, legalize the scum, register them to vote so your skinny ass can stay in the lap of luxury in the White House.

Any latinos with pride will see you're just using them, and vote Republican.

This is a battle the republican party should WELCOME.

But they'll run & hide, as usual.

All we need to do is play that King George III, I mean Cong. Pete Stark video over and over again. Tie it to any and every democrat, then see who is on the hot seat.

Obummer, the Demorats/Progressives, and the open-borders crowd are against any measure that could work.

I saw the speech, what I got from it:
1. that legal immigrants are the same as illegal immigrants.
2. Republicans are racist
3. This is all about their blood or where they were born (Republicans are xenophobic)

Someone needs to get in his face, this freaking BS has to stop. This is giving them a pass with the most vile accusations without anyone refuting them.

You are exactly right. The American public is behind Arizona all the way. Yet Mitchie the Kid is hiding under his desk as usual.

If you break into a house, you will be imprisoned.

When future democrat voters break into the country, Jr wants to give them food and a bed and make them your family member. Then he want them to invite their other family members to become new family members (and to vote for him) too.

OK, this is what baffles the heck out of me.

Reps and the pResident work for US. We tell THEM what to do.

We are telling them to SHUT THE BORDER FIRST, and do it NOW.

Second set up “Operation Wetback II” and force them out of the country or encourage them so strongly to self deport, they all disappear overnight. It has worked in the past and it WILL work today.

Third, SHUT THE HELL UP AND DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD TO DO WASHINGTON D.C.!!!
