If his “background comments” were what he truly believed, he should have resigned months ago.

Obama may not accept. McChrystal may be free to opine if he is no longer in the chain of command.

I think he was hoping things would turn around.

But comments by the administraton over the last week that they were committed to the July withdrawal date were the last straw for McCrystal IMO.

I don’t know that he felt that way months ago, and from what I’ve read, the reporter took many liberties in the way he wrote the story.

>Obama may not accept.<

.
Then McChrystal can retract his resignation on condition that Obama proves his constitutional eligibility as POTUS. That’s when the dung hits the fan for sure.

Why would he abandon his soldiers to “The wimps in the White House” until he absolutely had to? Every minute they are under McChrystal’s command, they’re safe from Obama.

He can say that he's gay - after all, DADT is still in effect, right?

I have a problem with that. What if McChrystal really wanted/tried to change the system and the policies from within? Should he give and abandon the troops he's fighting for?

Wouldn't a resignation months ago have simply allowed Obama to install another sycophant general?

Once he resigns/is fired he becomes an outsider with a grudge. Saying these things while in command cannot be hidden.

My problem is with his apology.

You can guarantee it's a factor for Zero accepting his resignation.

The general knew exactly what he was getting into. He complained about the strategy once before and was given a talking too. He should have resigned then and there because he had to know that Obama was going to turn this war into a political exercise (months of study, not quite enough troop, a pull out deadline, absurd rules of engagement. Any astute officer would have refused to accept those conditions, H caved and decided to play the game.

Everything after that day is sour grapes.
