Has US bloodlust at BP gone too far?

As each day goes by, the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico becomes more gruesome. Oil-drenched birds and turtles wash up along the shoreline, pristine beaches are polluted by balls of tar and an oily slick laps at Louisiana's ecologically fragile marshland. Understandably, Americans are livid. But has the bloodlust directed at BP gone too far?

Egged on by catch-all protest coalitions, a "seize BP" campaign is organising demonstrations in major cities calling on the US government to snatch the British company's US assets. A "boycott BP" action group advocates shunning BP service stations. Placards abound with slogans such as "God bless America – go to hell BP" and "BP – billionaire polluters". The wife and children of BP's chief executive, Tony Hayward, are under police protection following threats.

Urged by political strategists to act more angrily, Barack Obama shed his uncharacteristic cool this week and declared that if it was up to him, BP's boss would be fired. The White House now wants BP to pay not only for cleaning up the Gulf, but also for the cost of jobs lost on 33 other oil rigs because of a government-imposed six-month moratorium on offshore drilling. And the US department of justice is threatening legal action to halt BP's dividend payouts to investors.

Anthony Weiner, a usually sensible Democratic congressman, declared: "Whenever you hear someone with a British accent talking about this on behalf of British Petroleum, they are not telling you the truth."

The only bloodlust I see emanates from the MSM and the Obama administration.

Anthony Weiner, a usually sensible Democratic congressman . . .

The Guardian is discovering the meaning of that old phrase, "it all depends on whose ox is being gored". British socialists nationalizing other people's industries were okay with the prominent Socialist rag, but another country's socialists calling to nationalize their property? That's a different story.

The msm has a vested interesting in bashing BeePee morning noon and night. It diverts blame for the total lack of response by Mr. wee-wee himself.

BP is ruining all the Gulf coast with the jobs there and natural resources. BP just paid out 2.63 billion in dividends. I would call BP an honest player if that money had been put into a restitution fund. So far I don’t trust BP on any kind of payouts they will be making. They are a British company so how much jurisdiction does US law have?? What US assets does BP have that the Feds could seize to pay out to Americans who have been harmed?

If the relief wells fail after waiting these long three months for them to hit pay dirt...Then things will get very hairy

I am boycotting BP. Accidents are one thing, these guys decided to continue KNOWING their safety devices had already failed. They thought they would save a few million and be heros. Now they’ve cost BILLIONS, the lives of 11 people and countless lives of gods creatures for no good reason. I’ll never buy BP gas again. I suggest the local owned an operated BP stations find a new vendor now, as my boycott is permanent. I personally hope they go out of business, so the other companies will take safety a little more seriously.

I will post the opposite of freepers. BP is going to bankrupt millions of Americans. I am in favor of getting restitution from BP by any means necessary. If 0bama has the cojones to do it, then I will support him.

BP has got to show me the money (in billions) for cleanup efforts. Until then I don’t trust them and certainly have no sympathy for them.

“Anthony Weiner, a usually sensible Democratic congressman...”

Aaaaahhh! NOT. The guy is a partisan dupe who has never strayed off the DNC talking points. Have been forced to endure him as one of FOX’s token liberals for years.

So now if you speak British, you are an enemy of the obamite regime ... interesting. How many of those brave NATO soldiers dying in Afghanistan (for obama’s war) speak British?

Let's see, the protesters want to:

1) Have the U.S. government "seize" BP - They are demanding that "We the People" must take over and own this company, and use taxpayer dollars to "fix" the things it has done wrong.

2) Boycott BP - They want "We the People" to try to put the company they just insisted "We" must own and operate out of business, thereby assuring our taxpayer dollars have disappeared forever.

Hmmmmmmm. Interesting.

But you know, I can see where the Obama administration might just go for it; what with it being par for their course and all.
