I hope this isn’t a stupid question, as I regard the man as heroic, but why couldn’t he pick his own driver, maybe a Catholic one?

fatwa promulgated by 7,300 Moroccan Muslim doctors who recently declared that Christian charity ought to be considered religious terrorism.
I’ve heard it all now.

It would not surprise me at all to learn that the Turkish authorities knew that the driver they assigned was a Muslim, not a Catholic — and that the driver was a mole for the Turkish government, reporting every word and every movement.

Altun was, presumably, a Moose... how does a bishop end up getting stuck with a guy like that?

Fr. di Giacomo asserted that the expulsion was a consequence of the fatwa promulgated by 7,300 Moroccan Muslim doctors who recently declared that Christian charity ought to be considered religious terrorism. Such an evil thought!

The Spanish daily argued that the Moroccan government took advantage of the international chaos to deport the missionaries who worked with the poor because they perturbed the mentality of the good Muslim. I bet they did.
The Muslims saw the gentleness, charity and selflessness of the Christians and they started comparing it to the message of hate and mayhem which the fundamentalists preach and it gave them pause.
They were about to say "wait a minute.........these people aren't the "Great Satan"............when the government stepped in and showed the missionaries the door.
"Love" is a word which figures little, if at all in Islam and it is a truly powerful force. The Muslims know it and it scares the bejabbers out of them. They're used to their irrational, vengeful Allah and any encounter with a merciful, loving God must be avoided at all costs.
