The White House

Office of the Press Secretary

For Immediate Release May 27, 2010

Statement by the President on Votes to Repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”

I have long advocated that we repeal ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’, and I am pleased that both the House of Representatives and the Senate Armed Services Committee took important bipartisan steps toward repeal tonight. Key to successful repeal will be the ongoing Defense Department review, and as such I am grateful that the amendments offered by Representative Patrick Murphy and Senators Joseph Lieberman and Carl Levin that passed today will ensure that the Department of Defense can complete that comprehensive review that will allow our military and their families the opportunity to inform and shape the implementation process. Our military is made up of the best and bravest men and women in our nation, and my greatest honor is leading them as Commander-in-Chief. This legislation will help make our Armed Forces even stronger and more inclusive by allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve honestly and with integrity.

There’s a huge, known problem with men and women serving together in non-combat military positions - non-combat solely because of the difference in physical strength.

Now heighten the normal extremely intense bonding of combat amongst men with the fire of homosexual attraction, and you’re pouring gasoline on an already burning fire.

Unlike most here, I’m not convinced that open homosexuality in the military can’t be accomplished safely. BUT - anyone who blithely dismisses the ferociously obvious possibility of moral catastrophe is simply a bald-faced liar.

Further, it is a fact the the Left knows this clearly, and is counting on gay militancy to shove forward something that could do permanent damage to the US military.

And the most pathetic thing of all is that the gays actually think this is about them.

How exactly do openly gay soldiers make the military stronger? They'll probably just complain about the lack of floral arrangments and the drab color of their uniforms.

I would no more encourage my son, daughter, niece, nephew or neighbor’s kid to join the armed forces nowadays than I would point them towards the church of Satan, NAMBLA, al Qaida or the neo-Nazis. Let him draft the gangbangers, La Raza, Obama Youth and ACORN types.

A double sorry here. Most Democrats would probably enjoy doing that.

I pray earnestly that you are “unlike most here.” Or rather, I pray that most here don’t think like you, “[unconvinced that] open homosexuality in the military can’t be accomplished safely.”

Sodomy is never “safe,” either in the armed forces or in general society. I would not want someone so “not convinced” spending any influencial time with my children.

sadly , Hawaii’s brand new Republican Congressman , Charles Djou , immediately sided with the Democratic majority and voted for this repeal. He is supposedly a Captain in the Army Reserve too , he should know better .

To answer your thought : he is married and not a swish

– G. ROUGHEAD, CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS: “My concern is that legislative changes at this point, regardless of the precise language used, may cause confusion on the status of the law in the Fleet and disrupt the review process itself by leading Sailors to question whether their input matters.”

– JAMES T. CONWAY, COMMANDANT OF MARINE CORPS: “I encourage Congress to let the process the Secretary of Defense created to run its course. Collectively, we must use logical and pragmatic decisions about the long-term policies of our Armed Forces.”

– NORTON SCHWARTZ, CHIEF OF STAFF (USAF): “I believe it is important, a matter of keeping faith with those currently serving in the Armed Forces, and the Secretary of Defense commissioned review be completed before there is any legislation to repeal the DA/DT law…To do otherwise, in my view, would be presumptive and would reflect an intent to act before all relevant factors are assessed digested and understood.”

– GEORGE CASEY, CHIEF OF STAFF (ARMY): “I also believe that repealing the law before the completion of the review will be seen by the men and women of the Army as a reversal of our commitment to hear their views before moving forward.”

Come on man, don’t stereotype. Just because we’re gay doesn’t mean we’re effeminate. I’ve known gay men from many walks of life, including SEALS and Marines. We don’t lack control any more than straights. The ONLY difference was who we had sex with, and it wasn’t a big deal. You like women, we like men, that’s all there is to it. We can, have, and will continue to proudly served our country,

serve in the Peace Corps , not the Armed Services

gays openly serving in the U.S. military will hand a huge propaganda tool to our mortal enemies in the Jihad , giving further incentive why they should resist and kill the American soldier .

Is someone’s sexual/social agenda worth that ? Get real

Homosexuals,(”gay” is such a misplaced word for such behavior)even in societies used to them, are butts (pun unintended)for jokes.
Homo sex,to heterosexuals is queer and gross (in the literal sense)and thus prone to the healthy and normal response of ridicule.
Healthy as in laughing is better then bashing. It's a biological response to deviation. To suppress it is as mentally unhealthy as submitting to the brain-rotting plague of Political Correctness

Not enough Americans have served in the military so they don’t understand the difference between military and civilian life.

Too many Americans work with gays and think they aren’t so bad, what’s the big deal? You work with them, you don’t sleep in the same room with them or shower with them.

Substitute women for gay men and you and other men are now sleeping with them and showering with them. Do you think there will be any fighting over the women? Any rapes? And then after those tensions are introduced, do you think you would still be as trusting of your fellow soldiers and that your unit would be more or less cohesive than it was?

(It goes without saying that women should not be in combat, on submarines etc.)
