crazy! When the entitlement crowd gets a whiff of free grub the locals will quit coming and it will become a soup line not to mention the mobs that will descend on the place.

"Panera Bread does not sell single-unit franchises, so it is not possible to open just one bakery-cafe. Rather, we have chosen to develop by selling market areas which require the franchise developer to open a number of units, typically 15 bakery-cafes in a period of 6 years.
Panera Bread franchisees must be well-capitalized to open great bakery-cafes and meet this aggressive development schedule. Additionally, they must have a proven track record as excellent multi-unit restaurant operators to operate great Panera Bread bakery-cafes. Information and forms available on this portion of this Site is applicable only to prospective franchisees in the United States.
Qualification Criteria:
Applicants must meet these criteria to gain consideration for a Panera Bread franchise:
Experience as a multi-unit restaurant operator
Recognition as a top restaurant operator
Net worth of $7.5 million
Liquid assets of $3 million
Infrastructure and resources to meet our development schedule
Real estate experience in the market to be developed
Total commitment to the development of the Panera Bread brand
No doubt prices will be going up at their other locations to cover for this one.
The Vienna Inn in the Virginia burbs has been doing that for decades. They largely serve local clientele. Not sure if folks will feel that loyalty to a store in a national chain. The Vienna Inn has also been donating hot dogs and chili to a local Toys for Tots benefit event. I've directed the event for ten of its 30+ years and am grateful for their kind support.
When I lived in the St. Louis area we would drive through Clayton & dream of living in one of those fine homes someday. LOL! It makes no sense that Panera would try this, particularly in that area. Maybe I could see it in a poor neighborhood but not here.
Not a rank and file worker bee decision.
You’re right, but I suggest the rank and file reflect the ones who hire them, who reflect the ones who hire them.
They all live in a rainbows and fern bar world, from the college kids on the registers to the suits in the towers.
I can see it now, the first person to go in and pay $100 for a sandwich gets mugged by the freeloading vultures using up all the available seating.
I’m guessing this is all the idea of some demon-spawn lib that hates America and babies.
LOL — the Free Clinic of restaurants.
New workers will get their training at that site; like medical staffers at L.A.’s free clinics.
People with money will come in and pay little to nothing; people with nothing will pay nothing at all. Gee, sounds great —
Who wants to ‘dine’ in that environment in the first place?
Probably right.......
“If it can sustain itself financially, Panera will expand the model around the country within months. It all depends on whether customers will abide by the motto that hangs above the deli counter: “Take what you need, leave your fair share.”
Ah, “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”
Leftards crack me up....
next, affirmative action bakesale Panera.
RE: “I wonder if this store is in a predominantly-minority-accessible neighborhood. If so, watch out.
Remember the Oprah coupon-KFC free chicken disaster? I am NOT stereotyping, folks. Stating reality.”
*********
I know you are not stereotyping - LOL, you are correct! Reminds me of the ‘free cheese’ giveaways in L.A. years ago. Everyone lined up - even some millionaires - I knew one old man who fit into that category.
The sad thing is that nothing is ‘free.’ Panera is counting on the largesse of a few to take care of the rest. Ain’t gonna happen. NO ONE will overpay by enough to make this work.
“Theres a great burger place in Dearborn, Michigan (Millers Bar)”
Not anymore. Oh, the tavern still exists, but the burger packer lady got carpal tunnel and sued them. Now they get their patties pre-made and even the medium-rare cooked ones were like hockey pucks.
“The place does really well as I assume everybody pretty much pays up.”
I haven’t been back since I was embarrased by the food quality in front of out of town business associates. I have no interest in taking that risk again.
“Rated the #8 burgers in America by GQ Magazine.”
I bet that has changed dramatically!
OK, now back to the subject of the thread, “Libtards are idiots.”
Don’t worry too much, this is located in the heart of a very nice business district west of downtown St. Louis. Clayton is a very nice area full of lawyers, etc..
I think they will do fine.
I believe higher education in the US should be just this model: pay what you want. If a graduate feels their school provided a solid foundation, consider an endowment.
