Eight-term Rep. Mark Souder will announce his resignation Tuesday after it came to light that he was conducting an affair with a female staffer who worked in his district office, Fox News has learned.
Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of the affair would have landed Souder before the House Ethics Committee.
Elected as a family values conservative as part of the Republican revolution in 1994, Souder survived a tough re-election challenge in 2008 and survived a contested primary two weeks ago.

“Dims rarely resign over a little playing around,”
Also if I remember correctly at the highest levels they also seem to get fewer divorces. I am just waiting for some practical courageous wife to stand up and say, “ you know, he and I have been married for 20 years, I am very busy with the kids and the home. He is away a lot and lonesome, if someone can make him happy for a little while, I don’t mind, I still love the guy, just not so much in the old way anymore. So, if he is good to me and the kids, takes care of us financially, what business is it of anyone elses?”
Must be because of his personality, money, or power. Can’t be because of his looks.

Souder voted against impeachment as well, one of the few self-proclaimed “conservatives” who did so.
There was a lot of speculation at the time about Clinton’s blackmail operation. My guess, Souder was compromised back then as well.
All this speculation about “he was a good guy but corrupted by DC...”, is likely baloney in my opinion.
“I care more than you Ribbons”
Indeed, empty headed liberals think ribbons are so great, next time i got to some event I should just make up a fake ribbon and claim it is for some exotic cause and see if they call my bullshit on it.
Everyone sins. Just because he might have failed to live up to his ideals doesn’t mean they were wrong. The message is right even if Souder didn’t always follow it.
Celibacy and marital fidelity are virtues. Other congressmen, some Republicans, have endorsed those virtues and then failed, like Souder and Vitter, but have gone on to be reelected. Souder should not resign. Maybe like Vitter he can be elected again and stand for virtue and small government in Washington.
Take welfare for an example, it was meant to give people a hand up but now most have become dependent and in permanent poverty.
Marlin Stutzman is a much better conservative candidate than Thomas.
Only DEMS circle the wagons and keep their corrupt buddies in office. REPublicans oust their own and demand it. While this is a moral issue, he can be forgiven.
I’m sick of the double standard.
As I expected, Marlin Stutzman is seeking Souder’s House seat. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/37422.html
Good.
If he gets it that will raise his profile for a future state-wide bid.

The non-partisan objectivity of the media continues to astound. :') Thanks rdl6989.
It this had been a demonRat, he would have been lionized and promoted to a WH czar post.
Because according to democrats, they don’t run on “family values” so when they get caught with their hand in someone else’s cookie jar, they don’t have to resign because they never said they weren’t cookie snatchers!
Ya mean sorta like NY23? The party powers pick the candidate?
Great. Just great.
I doubt that he’s furious. He may get the nod to become the candidate but, even if he doesn’t, he’s in a nice catbird’s “I told ya’ so” position for the race two years from now.
It’s real intersting that Souder came forward at this moment in time. It seems clear that he knew the story was going to break. Now, who might have been behind finding the story and alerting the press to the situation, thus forcing Souder to step down? No doubt the rats, which means they are out there raking and sifting for any dirt on they can sniff out on every pub in office or about to run for office. Indiana is a conservative state and the voters won’t go for cheating and corruption, except the rat voters - but only when it comes to rat candidates who promise them goodies. And rat incumbents and candidates rest comfortably knowing no such fate coming from the pubs will befall them. The pubs aren’t even in the game. They will never learn how to street fight, and that’s why we will not take back congress this Fall or any time soon at all. In fact, they’re using our tax money to defeat pubs and we stand by and let them do it.
Shame on them, shame on us.
zero and his goons are backing and funding conservative rats so that morons such as those who voted rat tonight in Murtha’s district will always vote rat. Then those congressmen will all do what they always do, and that’s vote with zero and Pelosi against the interests and wishes of the voters. Next election, they send in a fresh batch of liars with false promises. They suckered these voters in the last two elections and it worked. Why would they change a winning hand? Remember NY23? Remember Arlen Specter? Bart Stupak? So many others? zero and his henchmen use these people like condoms, then throw them under the bus and toss them a bone on their way out the door. Then they go find some more of the same. There’s an endless supply of fresh-faced scumbags willing to sell their souls for the power, notoriety and opportunity that comes with the job, even if it only lasts two years.
Yeah, I’d like to know which pretty little staffer Manchelle’s getting it on with. As for Barry, well, I hear he’s really Greek, not Kenyan.
