Eight-term Rep. Mark Souder will announce his resignation Tuesday after it came to light that he was conducting an affair with a female staffer who worked in his district office, Fox News has learned.

Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of the affair would have landed Souder before the House Ethics Committee.

Elected as a family values conservative as part of the Republican revolution in 1994, Souder survived a tough re-election challenge in 2008 and survived a contested primary two weeks ago.

That doesn’t bug me so much. Districts are gerrymandered every 10 years. I’ve never liked residency rules for that reason. A vindictive legislature can push somebody out of a district that he would easily represent.

I’m curious as to the reasons for your emnity (you’ve made assertions without evidence) but I suppose Stutzman is the nominee and if the active members of the party aren’t upset with it, then that’s fine.

Thank you. Looks like the Repubs are pushing Souder out on a very busy news day hoping the story gets little coverage. The only positives in this mess are that local Indiana Repubs get to pick his replacement, and its 6 months until election day. Did he have a serious primary challenger who might be a strong general election candidate?

Rep. Souder Had Affair with Staffer Tracy Jackson

FOX has confirmed that the aide Souder had an affair with is Tracy Jackson, a part-time aide who worked in his northern Indiana district office.

Jackson is still on staff.

She is described as being in her mid-40s and married.

Jackson handled communications for Souder in the district and periodically travelled with him.

According to Legistorm.com, Jackson earned $12,541.70 from Souder's office last year.

She came to work for Souder in December, 2004 as what is described as a "special assistant/communications." She earned $533.33 that year.

Fox has learned that Souder initially discussed retiring at the end of this term, but not standing for re-election. However, after talking with his family over the weekend, decided to resign.

Souder and senior House leaders discussed his exit over the weekend.

Democrats never resign. Look at Clinton and like you said, Rangel. They tough it out and if they can get the votes, they stay. Republicans (almost) always resign because the Left starts screaming, "Hypocrite!!" and their voters won't back them.

I live in the district. I was subjected to the most vile campaign ads run by Bob Thomas.
The week before the primary I got a letter from Mrs. Bob Thomas begging for my vote because her husband was such a great husband during the time their daughter was dying.
Any person who will use a dead child in order to get votes is vile and evil.
Thomas lives in Indianapolis. He bought a condo in Ft. Wayne when he decided to run for congress. I am sure it is back on the market again. Gerrymandering had nothing to do with his decision to run for congress.
Souder is a moderate-but he got my vote in the primary. I would still prefer Souder today over Thomas.

If this guy is resigning because of a scandal, why is Charlie Rangel, who is vastly more corrupt, with far bigger scandals, still sitting in the congress?

Because a majority of voters in Rangel's district approve of Rangel's behavior.

I’m guessing they have more opportunities than the common voter, but I may be wrong there. DC is probably more conducive to that happening.

Egads!? Was the staffer BLIND?

Bill Clinton could hardly be called hot stuff himself, especially those flabby thighs and flabbier lips -- it's not about looks with these gals, it's all about the power, the money they garner. Look at the *goodies* Baucus was getting for his staffer homewrecker girlfriend.

I am not an Indiana voter. But I must commend the Hoosiers for not putting "looks" on their list of candidate qualifications. And I am happy that Souder's adolescent acne has finally cleared up, and given him the confidence he needed to approach members of the opposite sex to whom he was not married.

O yes, And in future, if a Republican is having an affair, please post a recent photo of the other party to the affair. Instead of condemning her, we may, may I say, based on the Souder photo, wish to commend her for mercy.

Why, may I be permitted to ask, is this doofus resigning? Barney Frank's apartment was HQ for a queer whorehouse operation. Has he resigned? Please, Souder, make a "clean breast" of it and let's move on with your vote in our pockets. Do penance and we'll forgive and forget, as long as you vote our way.
