Let's try a political thought experiment. Imagine that a few months after a new president takes office, his administration approves an offshore oil well a mile beneath the Gulf of Mexico. It is to be run by BP, whose employees were very generous donors to the president's campaign. The oil company airily dismisses the possibility of a catastrophic leak that might destroy the coastline. Nearly a year later, the presidentto the dismay of his environmentalist supporterssays he wants to greatly expand offshore drilling. Soon after that, the BP well explodes, and oil spews into the gulf. It's clear to everyone that the blowout is a major catastrophe, requiring a federal mobilization. But the president's initial response is to say, in effect: do not worry, BP will pay for the cleanup. Eleven days pass before he goes to survey the scene.
Of course, this is a sketch of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, and the president is Barack Obama. But here is the rest of the experiment. Imagine the reaction of Washingtonthe media, Congress, the "national conversation"if the president wasn't Obama but George W. Bush. "We would be under siege," says Dan Bartlett, who was communications director in the Bush years. "There'd be calls for special prosecutors, investigations everywhere. The focus wouldn't be on what was happening out in the gulfit would be on what happened in the West Wing."
Now, I hold no brief for George Bush, and I have no desire to launch a screed against the home-field advantage that Obama still gets in the non-Murdoch media.(continued)

What if that was reality, PJ?
Naahhh...
We know it can't happen in a Constitutional republic based on the rule of law underpinned by a free press that is constantly on the watch for an overreaching government that infringes on the rights of the people.

Of course Fineman is not going to admit that Soetoro’s “uncanny ability” is nothing but a pro-abortion, leftist media.
So, he thinks he’s MC Hammer (”Can’t Touch This) eh???
November 2010 and 2012 is another matter.
Fineman watches too much of the deluded world of PMSNBC.
The majority of thr press have betrayed us and they’re gleeful and arrogant about it.
I wrote this post in response to the question of why the media ignored the Nashville floods. It applies to this story, too.
The MSM is dying, and what limited capital resources they have left have been deployed in maintaining their bunkers in New York City and Atlanta. They have systematically shut down bureaus both at home and abroad, and have nothing left to offer except their reputations that are based on what used to be.
With the meager resources that they have left, they are squandering them on protecting their Pyrrhicly-won victory in the government, and on reporting the minor opposition incidents that they are trying to enlarge into damaging career-ending scandals in a last-ditch effort to protect the gains that they destroyed their careers for.
They know their works will be undone in 2010, and overturned in 2012, and are now on seek-and-destroy suicide missions to delay the inevitable.
They don't have the time or resources anymore for the petty run-of-the-mill stories like floods in Tennessee when they have a legacy to protect and preserve.

Two words: Martial Law.
>When one or more American cities go up in flames, everything will do a 180.
I would hope so; but let’s ask the supremely distasteful question: What if it wouldn’t?
Imagine some sort of violent riot sparked because of Illegal Immigration (it doesn’t matter who: pro or con); the spark could even be deliberate. The news immediately sensationalize and dramatize it, exaggerating present elements and/or adding them [like race].
The National Guard of that state is called up, but when the communications and power go out the chaos seems to be ‘too much,’ and a request is made to the Federal Government for reinforcements. These reinforcements secure the city, cut off outside communication, and restore power and water. During the operations Food Stores, Medical Supplies will have been declared confiscate-able so that the Soldiers may conduct S&R AND so that civilians won’t starve/die.
The ‘investigation’ reveals that the power and water failures were “acts of terrorism” and the terrorists* merely took advantage of the timing and situation.
[* These could be actual terrorists or “right-wing extremists,” or a false-flag op implicating either.]
That city has the martial law that was declared extended so that the military and police can root out whoever sabotaged the utilities. Firearms and ammunition are added to the list of what may be confiscated and private gun owners are shaken-down/intimidated/implicated. (Remember that all communication, except for ‘official’ business, is down.)
At this point there are several ways things can go down.
Yes, excellent points.
Plus, the wonderful city of Nashville is conveniently in the Republican state of Tennessee, and those ‘Country-Western” singers trying to aid their fellow citizens aren’t the favorites of the elite journalist crowd.
I meant nuclear attacks, but of course it could be Watts or Rodney King all over again. Who’s side do you think Barry, Eric and Janet will take?
His popularity is in the toilet and will probably stay that way. The economy still has everyone in knots, so all this other stuff that isn’t directly in their face is kinda not focused. The media of course cherry picks the stories and tries to help, but it still doesn’t help his poll #’s.
Some kneepads never wear out.
The msm will find that no one is buying their dog food on this poseur.
No he didn't. That's a bald-face lie. Barry0 approved of some limited offshore exploration while simultaneously closing a far greater percentage of areas that were open to drilling. Fineman can't tell the truth even when he's criticizing the Zer0.
