Between Bachmann, Palin, Brewer, and now this Nikki (is it Haney?) lady in South Carolina, it kind of seems that the conservative movement is being led in large part by strong, constitution-loving women. I’m cool with that.
Univision: As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?
Sarah Palin: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant - there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants - not only economically is that just an impossibility but that’s not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.
Univision: Do you then favor an amnesty for the 12 or 13 million undocumented immigrants?
Sarah Palin: No, I do not. I do not. Not total amnesty. You know, people have got to follow the rules. They’ve got to follow the bar, and we have got to make sure that there is equal opportunity and those who are here legally should be first in line for services being provided and those opportunities that this great country provides.
Univision: To clarify, so you support a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants?
Sarah Palin: I do because I understand why people would want to be in America. To seek the safety and prosperity, the opportunities, the health that is here. It is so important that yes, people follow the rules so that people can be treated equally and fairly in this country.
Its not the “be all end all”.....she has done more rallying folks these pass months (other than tea party) than anyone else! period....she has inspired folks like none other since she stepped down....other conservatives are doing good but in there own way....she is doing things effectively, and for some to be “Miserables” moaning about McCain this and that is silly, not that I like McCain, i don’t....but the overall goal is to take the gavel out of nancy and harry hands and to slow down or stop Obama’s agenda for about two years until we get a conservative President in office.
she said that she had to keep her promise, a promise laid out last summer before J.D. name was even mention, so McCain is trying to save his A**, I would too use my calling card on Sarah Palin, if i was in trouble also in a political race, so would any of you. Think about it, Sarah is the greater and McCain is the weaker now and she has to come to save his A** from conservatives tired of him.
This woman should be congratulated. She has steel in her spine.
“Spin”?
The lamestream media never fail to disappoint do they?
What is there to spin about? The Arizona law is constitutional, very solid, and is backed by 70% of the people of Arizona and over 60% of all Americans. It's 0bozo and the lamestream mediaw ho are on the wrong side of history here.
Yep, and she has yet to back away from that interview.
Bullsh!t. She’s backed away from it several times- all posted here on FR- but not a single one of you will acknowledge it.
I would say that Mrs Palin's recent proclamations on the subject of illegal immigration, as well as her defense of Gov Brewer and the state of AZ, more than suffice in establishing her opinion on this issue.
Provide me with any of Palin's subsequent statements on amnesty and I will show you how language is being used to mask where she stands. I deal with the immigration issue on a daily basis and lobby on the Hill and in the statehouse.
FYI: Any legislation that legalizes the status of those who broke our laws by entering our country illegally and allows them to stay is amnesty. We must not only prevent the Democrats and some moderate Republicans from hijacking the meaning of the word amnesty, but the public must be made aware about the true impact of an amnesty. The Heritage Foundation concluded that the cost of amnesty alone would be $2.6 trillion. And the number of additional LEGAL immigrants who would join those who were the recipients of amnesty through chain migration, i.e., family reunification, would approach 70 million over a 20-year period, assuming there are only 12 million illegal aliens. We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen.
How so? The AZ does not address the issue of amnesty.
They (the media) know full well the law is only allowing what is already federal law to be handled on a state level.
Go Brewer and Palin!
DuH Sarah Palin is neither an expert on border security nor on tourism. This is a transparent political stunt by Gov. Brewer under the false pretense of helping Arizona.
Seems to me we got a lot of people in other jobs who are experts at nothing!
Don't you think if the AZ gov believed Sarah was for amnesty, she'd want to keep her far, far away? Why do you think she asked Sarah Palin for help when she could have asked so many others?
You are seeing what you want to see. If Sarah told you to your face 'absolutely no amnesty' you still wouldn't believe her.
Check this out from last nite.
VAN SUSTEREN: Both parties have made promises. I mean, we pull up sound bites where, you know, both sides, you know, Democrat, Republicans, say, you know, Secure the border, secure the border. And then once in office, we certainly don’t see a whole lot of action. Had the election gone another way, or even if you were president, what would you do about immigration?
PALIN: The very first thing is literally secure the border!
VAN SUSTEREN: How?
PALIN: People mock the idea of a fence. What’s wrong with building a fence? Yes, let’s physically secure the border. Let’s ramp up border control. Let’s provide the tools for those who are putting their lives on the line in order to stop illegal immigration of these aliens. Those are a couple of things.
And then you don’t start talking about amnesty, either, kind of as this last-minute, Oh, anybody who’s here in the country right now, we’re going to provide you amnesty, and even though you’ve broken the law and we are a nation of laws, you’ve broken that, we’ll still give you — because then there’s going to be a huge influx of those wanting kind of at the last minute to come over the border because they know that they will forever then receive that amnesty.
So you don’t start talking about that, but the very first thing you do is physically, literally secure those borders. It baffles me and most Americans why for all these years presidents, administrations have spoken about it but never done it.

That’s too vague. /s
The modified McCain position he adopted in 2008. Secure the borders than legalize all but the estimated 2 million criminal illegal aliens. The question is what do you do with the 12 to 20 million illegals already here, not whether talk of an amnesty will encourage more people to enter the US illegally in anticipation of an amnesty. That is a given. It happened in 1986.
Since Univision 2008, Palin has said "no amnesty".
Now of course some people misuse that phrase, but can you tell me when Sarah has misued the phrase?
So then Sarah, who has said "no amnesty", clearly gives the reason why you don't give an amnesty, and you still don't believe her?
You assume that it’s a one way deal. I imagine she’ll be expecting something in return from Juan, should he win. And perhaps even if he doesn’t.
Politics is a tricky chessboard.
