Moscow, May 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The troops of US, France and Britain were also part of the ‘Victory Day’ parade on the Red Square for the very first time. The Russian troops were also there in full force, but at the same time there was some emphasis on the international military forces as well. This move to have the international forces as part of the Victory Day celebrations on the Red Square has upset many Russian citizens.

The Victory Day celebrations are a process of commemorating the defeat of Nazi Germany in 1945. And this day has mostly been used by the Russians to snigger at the West, but this year the inclusion of the US, French and the British troops has puzzled many people.

I assume the theory is that we did as much as the French to defeat the Nazis, so we get to march with French troops as equal partners.

That's the 2/18th Infantry from Baumholder. One of the soldiers re-upped in Red Square. Now that's something different . . . .

One Freeper was so convinced when he/she saw this pic the other day that it just HAD to be a Disney building or float behind them because it was beyond all reason that a soldier would re-up on the Red Square.

I’m telling you, I slipped into an alternate universe about 2 years ago and can’t find my way home.

Western participation kind of puzzles me, too. The Soviets were for the Nazis before they were against them. They made the German invasion of Central and Western Europe possible, by ensuring that the German armies had a steady supply of Soviet goods to keep them going, and provided the Germans with a secure Eastern front. In the modern era, it was the mother of all blowbacks - a lot similar to the Sung empire’s decision to use the Mongols against the Western Hsia and Chin empires in the 13th century.

The reason for US participation, you only have to look who is occupying the White House. It is his way to salute Communism.

This move to have the international forces as part of the Victory Day celebrations on the Red Square has upset many Russian citizens.

A guy I worked with years ago was a Russian immigrant who later become a US Citizen. He told me that growing up in Russia, he never heard of the Hitler-Stalin Pact until he moved to the United States. He was of the age where the students were taught propaganda and not history. I think we are seeing some of this here with some Russian Citizens.

Not only that, but Soviet History pretty much omits the western allies contribution to their victory in the "Great Patriotic War." Wonder how their explaining this to the kids?

Because they aren't stupid. They are located right next to a resurgent Russia that might have just capped the entire leadership of Poland.
Who would have their back if they got threatened by the Russian Bear?
Us? Heck, we would give them the same support we gave Georgia-none.
In fact, they might see us as much as they see Russia with the current Communist in Chief in the White House.

The day of the parade I had to look up the unit history of the 170th Infantry Bde, parent of the 2/18, because I had never heard of them.

I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the 170th had actually been sent to Russia at the end of WWI and ended-up being the only US Army unit to fight the Bolsheviks on Russian soil.

I thought that was a pretty cool trade-off for marching in Red Square :-)

IrishCatholic gave you a good answer about Poland, and for Obama, it's his salute to the birth place of the Communist Party and the world's first socialist state.

I doubt it. Reading up on the foreign troops that fought the Communists in Russia as the Revolution was taking hold, I got the distinct impression it's still something that sticks in their craw. That foreign troops were fighting Russians in Russia.

I am happy to see that somebody, somewhere in the US Army has a sense of humor :-)
