San Antonio refinery on fire following explosion
WFAA and KENS 5 ^

Posted on 05/05/2010 10:30:55 AM PDT by Eyes Unclouded

An oil refinery just southeast of downtown San Antonio is on fire.

The fire started at the AGE Refinery on South Presa, following an explosion. Large black plumes of smoke can be seen spilling into the skies above San Antonio.

The plant is located near Mission San Juan on Military Dr. and Presa.

AGE Refining, Inc., is based out of San Antonio. They refine several specialized petroleum products, including jet fuel and diesel. The company was founded in 1991.

There is at least one burn victim, according to initial reports.

Our sister station, KENS 5, has a crew on the way.

I’m really starting to see a pattern here.

Me too!

If I remember correctly, BAMC is on the opposite side of downtown from where this occurred. Randolph is probably 15-20 miles northeast of that.

According to WOAI radio, the initial explosion was a tanker containing octane, which is very flammable.

That, I could understand.

A coal mine, an oil rig and now a refinery.

A refinery that makes diesel and jet fuel. At least some of the jet fuel is for the US military.

Hello $5 a gallon gas

This is a very small refinery, and it doesn't make gasoline.

If a tree falls on an eco-Nazi, does it make a sound?

Yes, if you could hear their bones crack. That’s a good sound.

DAMN people, this is a dangerous industry, shi$ happens all the time, most of you just don't pay attention.

Your exactly right, it is a very dangerous industry! It is not a matter of "if" an accident will happen, but "when" will an accident happen. Not to mention the fact that these refineries are getting old and new ones are not being built to replace them.

Not sarcasm: the Obama wants to regulate home sales, including not allowing a sale of a home with a wood stove.

Inspectors will be severely dealt with.

Regardless of the steel worker's union claim, filling up a tanker, or unloading it should not be a dangerous matter. This tanker was neing loaded with Jet A and A1 and they have a flash point of 100o F (38o). It's only 88oF there now.

Even if this was gasoline, simply connecting the grounding wire provided to the source and tanker will eliminate all sources of ignition except those provided deliberately by an employee, or some other jerk.

Lumping blowouts and crane accidents all together as a set is bogus. The steelworker's union is simply attempting to gain access to the worker's paychecks through any propaganda they can conjure up, nothing more.

Thanks. Just curious. My brother and sister-in-law both work at Wilford Hall and I have friends who work at BAMC. BAMC will probably get the burn patients.

Energy is just too inherently dangerous to be extracted in America.

Exactly what the MSM wants you to think, therefore they are now reporting all these accidents.

WEll u know that supposedly the Russian fleet reported that a N Korean minisub suicide missioned the Gulf rig?

It does seem a pattern. Anyone hear anything else about the bomb at the Pittsburgh Marathon over the weekend?
