My Idaho CCW is mostly a matter of convenience. I don't have to worry about what I toss in my pocket, nor be concerned about how I transport my firearms.

The same idea here, I guess, but it offends me that I have been breaking the law all these years, just by carrying a pocket knife. We (you and I) live in the last bastion of civil libertarianism. No one is more free, more independent, than the Mountain West. To find such laws on the books is irksome, even if they don't generally enforce them.

I moved to Idaho in Dec 2000. The endless stream of anti-gun laws was well on the way to making the contents of my safe illegal. High taxes, heavy traffic, crowded everything was also a factor. I lived in Federal Way, WA for a year when I was growing up. The late sunsets in summer are a great attraction of being further north. Pocatello had the size of house with real basements, access to the airport and freeways, sufficient shopping and adequate broadband that I needed to make a living. I'm happy with the move. It isn't perfect. There are few jobs with decent pay. I'm fortunate to work for a company that has a presence in every state that permits me to operate from my home office.

Balding_Eagle, I did a little searching and found this page at the Rocky Mountain Gun Owners website... “Frequently Asked Questions About Firearms Laws In Colorado”.

If you scroll a short way down to Carrying Without A Permit, you’ll see this...

Can I carry concealed on my person without a permit in Colorado?
NO (it’s a Class 2 misdemeanor if caught, and you will most likely forfeit the weapon; however, if done on school property it’s a felony)

18-12-105. Unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon - unlawful possession of weapons.

(1) A person commits a class 2 misdemeanor if such person knowingly and unlawfully:

(a) Carries a knife concealed on or about his or her person; or

(b) Carries a firearm concealed on or about his or her person;

___________________________________________________________________________________

See ATF’s “State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms”

The latest online version is available in .pdf form here (scroll down the right side column for a link to just the Colorado section)...

Thanks, that’s something I didn’t know.

I nearly always carry my Buck knife, it has a clip so it’s clipped to the top of my left front jeans pocket.

I don’t plan on changing that, but I will be a little more careful.

I don’t ever get into any ‘tight’ spots, but I’ll be danged if I’m going to go without any protection.

The knife is in my pocket, the metal clip on the outside. The top of the knife can be seen unless I’m wearing a jacket.

That technicality may matter. Or not.

Still, it’s easier to carry the knife than to carry a cop. (Had to toss that in)

These state laws that make us criminals for carrying a knife have got to go...I’d love to see more “knife rights” to accompany the progress that’s being made to restore our gun rights here in Virginia.

“The passage of Arizona’s Knife Preemption Law is precedent setting for knife owner rights. Arizona is the first state to establish specific preemption for knife laws and this represents the successful kick-off of Knife Rights’ National Knife Law Preemption Campaign, a key component of Knife Rights’ national legislative agenda to protect and enhance knife owners’ rights.

Knife Rights anticipates that the Arizona preemption law will serve as a model for preemption efforts in other states whose citizens are subject to a similar patchwork of restrictive local knife laws with attendant civil rights issues. We have already been approached by a number of legislators and citizens who want to initiate knife law preemption for their states. Knife Rights will aggressively pursue these opportunities.”

It is being spread around that Sheriff Joe wants a crack at being Governor. Seems the one they’ve got is signing good bills left and right.
