Not quite: The first written part of the Qu'ran counsels friendship and peace with Christians and Jews, the "peoples of the Book". It's the later parts (written after a Jewish tribe rejected Mohammed's claim to be a prophet and he reacted by committing genocide) that call on Muslims to make war on all non-Muslims, Christians and Jews included. Which is why the odious hermeneutic method of nashk or abrogation which resolves apparent conflicts in the Qu'ran by letting the later-written parts trump the earlier written is as important to the violent nature of most sects of Islam as the text of the Qu'ran itself.
