BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - (Business Wire) The Rand Paul Campaign has learned that Trey Grayson paid at least three members of his 2007 Secretary of State Campaign Team as independent contractors. This revelation comes after Grayson yesterday announced that he had filed formal complaints with the IRS and six other enforcement agencies alleging Rand Pauls Senate campaign had not properly classified their workers and therefore not paid proper taxes.
As background, it should be noted the Paul For Senate Campaign, acting on the professional advice of Certified Public Accountant, is following a practice considered normal and common in political campaigns classifying those on their team as independent contractors who are responsible for their own tax obligations.
Of course, as Grayson well knows, independent contractors in fact do pay income taxes, and are responsible for doing so the same as any other worker. The only difference is they have to write the check themselves rather than having the taxes withheld.
The Grayson camp has hurled wild accusations at Dr. Paul based on this legitimate practice, calling Rand personally a law breaker. While the Paul campaign maintains it has done nothing wrong and that no one is attempting to avoid taxes they also noted that the charges are particularly ironic since Grayson followed the same practice just a few years ago.
When confronted with the facts today by a reporter from the Louisville Courier-Journal, current Grayson campaign manger and employee of his Secretary of State campaign Nate Hodsen said that the 2007 campaign was small and did not have any full time workers as all staff members had other jobs.
This claim was made despite the fact that Graysons 2007 campaign was statewide and spent well over $1 million dollars. In fact, the Paul campaign has obtained a screen shot from Hodsens own FaceBook account showing Hodsen himself listed Graysons campaign as his sole employer.
Its official. Grayson had already proved himself willing to distort and lie about positions and issues, and weve called him out for it. But now, Trey Grayson has completely jumped the shark and lost all credibility in this campaign by stomping his feet about a common practice in fact, one he himself used in his last campaign, said campaign manager David Adams.
Down in the polls and unable to gain support on the issues, Trey Grayson is once again opening up his career politician playbook and resorting to the lies and hypocrisy. Trey should either run on real issues and start telling the truth, or he should get out and leave this race to leaders serious about fighting back against an out-of-control federal government.
Further more, even if he thought he might be right, other than for political gain - what kind of Republican snitches on other Republicans over unfounded accusations to the IRS and six other government agencies?
The last time I checked, we were the party that sought to remove burdens from employers so they and their employees could make decisions, not bureaucrats at the IRS.
Of course, Trey makes no secret of his love for more government, so I guess we should not be surprised. Perhaps, since Trey is a former Democrat who has clearly not lost his taste for government regulation and intrusion, he should consider going back to that party. Between this and his silly ads trying to scare seniors, it certainly sounds like hed be more comfortable in the liberal party.
For clarification, and even though no federal election law requires this, the Paul for Senate campaign has asked the IRS for an advisory opinion on the independent contractor status of their team to reaffirm that they are fully compliant with the law as stated by their accountant.
Such a shame they both can’t lose.
They tried the same thing with Scott Brown. I’ve worked as an independent contractor before what is the big deal?
Grayson being in charge of the vote counting in his own election tells you all you need to know about him.
Hopefully Rand Paul will win this thing. Establishment GOP is the last thing we need right now.
Only a complete moron would say something like that.
If Bill Clinton/Mitt Romney man, Trey Grayson gets dirty enough, they both can, this is only the Republican primary.
The Democrats could take the seat if Rand is damaged badly enough by Trey.
The Democrats could take the seat if Rand is damaged badly enough by Trey.
the article states:
... since Trey is a former Democrat...
I think you may have hit the nail on the head.....
All of Greyson’s ads accuse Paul of wanting to cut Medicare and Social Security. Now where have I heard that before?
Amen, brother.
If this is the best the GOP has to offer we are well and truly screwed.
Bunning will be sorely missed.
Jim Bunning endorsed Rand Paul.
Another disgusting Grayson?
