OTTAWA, Ontario, April 20, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada (ARCC) has responded to Conservative MP Rod Bruinooge's proposed bill to ban coercive abortion, unveiled in a press conference last week, by calling instead for a ban on coerced childbirth, and even suggesting that Canada outlaw pro-life activism.
The entire anti-choice movement has been trying to force women into pregnancy and motherhood for decades, by working to outlaw or restrict abortion, said Joyce Arthur, ARCC's coordinator, in a Monday press release. Perhaps we need to protect women from this coercion by criminalizing anti-choice activism!
In the release, Arthur admits that coerced abortions do occur in Canada, but claims that they do not occur on the grand scale often claimed by anti-choice propagandists. She maintains, however, that women must be protected from coercive childbirth, based on a U.S. study, available on the website of Planned Parenthood's Guttmacher Institute, that indicates that some women are pressured by their partners to bear their child.
The ARCC has opposed Bill C-510, also known as Roxanne's Law, which was introduced as a private members bill to the House by Bruinooge last Wednesday. The bill is named after Roxanne Fernando, who was killed by her boyfriend in 2007 after she refused to obtain an abortion.
As part of their call for a ban on coercive childbirth and pro-life activism, the ARCC has also called for the prohibition of Canada's pregnancy care centres, which have been set up to offer a supportive environment to women who become pregnant in difficult circumstances. They have also called for a ban on sidewalk counsellors, who peacefully attempt to offer support and prayer to women as they enter or leave abortuaries.
A law against coerced childbirth would be a great opportunity to put a stop to some of the most egregious violations of womens integrity perpetrated by the anti-choice movement, stated Judy Burwell, an ARCC spokesperson.
This is outrageous! said Campaign Life Coalitions (CLC) National Organizer, Mary-Ellen Douglas, in response to ARCCs press release. It is clear to me that Joyce Arthur and the Canadian pro-abortion movement have nothing but contempt for democracy. Already this week we have seen a group of young pro-life students threatened with expulsion from the University of Calgary, simply for exercising their freedom of expression. And now this!
Canadians everywhere, no matter what their views on abortion, should be appalled by the extremism of Canadas pro-abortion movement, which would not only seek to censor and even criminalize certain Canadians because of their views, but which will also do everything in its power to ensure that pregnant women are not offered the aid and support they need.
LifeSiteNews contacted Joyce Arthur for comment, but she refused to speak with us.
Ping!
Exactly what is happening here.
Don’t agree with the Regime, you are a criminal.
Don't they know that eventually we return to normal and that means Canada is once again in our sights!
A soft target waiting for conquest ~
Canada: quasi-totalitarian socialist regime with limited
Forced birth? No, honey you chose to put yourself in the position, no pun intended, to get pregnant. That ain’t forced birth. If they feel that way they should sue the impregnator for forced birth.
What a bunch of lunatics.
Canada: quasi-totalitarian socialist regime with limited civil rights
I take offense to that characterisation!
We are totalitarian, nothing quasi about it.
Last time I checked, women don’t suddenly wake up pregnant. Unless their freedom to choose is taken away, it is their CHOICE to become pregnant by not availing themselves of birth control; to avoid pregnancy for free, they could simply be abstinent.
These people are really begging for it, aren’t they? Making objecting or protesting the killing of babies “illegal”. What can produce a mind like that short of pure evil?
Now...ya see? Right there. They start off by intentionally mis-labeling their opponents. Typical Liberal a-hole tactic.
It is called "Pro-Life". Pro-lifers are not "anti-choice".
Adoption is a choice is it not? Just because they do not believe that murder is a valid or moral option does not mean they are "anti-choice".
.....hard to believe the Canadian insanity.
Everyone needs to download Hillary Clinton’s little bitch rant where she goes off saying ‘we are americans, we are patriotic and we have a right to debate and disagree with ANY ADMINISTRATION.”
And just keep playing it anytime a m-fing liberal gets in your face.
And then make sure you say, “Well that sure is a knee-jerk Nazi response you have there!”
Lunatics. Evil lunatics.
“Dont agree with the Regime, you are a criminal.”
Oh hell yeah. In fact I don’t doubt that they are combing sites like this one for chargable “sedition” and that they will in fact make mass arrests with charges. As crazy as it sounds history says they’ll do it.
Heck, they mislabel themselves. They are not “pro-choice” no matter how it is labeled someone dies.
They are pro-murder for the sake of selfishness.

When the road to one evil is chosen, all other evils must be embraced as well. Evil Absolutes. They're all related. Because when people choose to do and promote evil, they still have some conscience deep in their hearts, and they must try to stifle that small voice telling them: "You're wrong". The more evil they do and promote, the sicker they get, and they want to destroy every vestige of goodness and truth. It really is a war between good and evil. It's not just this issue or that.
I swear some of these women are crazy! Look Ladies no one forced you to become pregnant. You know what causes it and how to prevent it but you did what you wanted and nature took it’s course. Now if you choose to kill your own child it is legal but no one can ever make me believe that it is your right to end someone else’s life!
You know if they insist on calling us anti choice then they are “pro aborts” no two ways about it!
