SONOBUOY PING!
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

T-39s have been used for Navy flight training since the early 1960s — a great jet. T-39Ds were replaced by T-47A Cessna Citation II in the mid-80s, but they had airframe & performance problems; all but one destroyed in a hangar fire. Navy refurbished a number of T-39s, re-designated T-39N. It might turn out to be a matter of pilot error, but nonetheless sad that our warriors are having to use aircraft 50+ years old (to say nothing of the B-52!). Trillions for public employee union payoffs and Obamacare, but we can't provide Student Naval Flight Officers (SNFOs) and their instructors with modern equipment.

I sure hope the pilot wasn’t buzzing the family farm...

The T-39 is used for both visual and radar low level navigation training for the Student Naval Flight Officers (SNFOs). Also used for higher altitude air-to-air intercept and cross-country navigation. Often flying close to the ground, so if an emergency occurs, there is not much time to react.
