The employer is to be punished ONLY if he KNOWINGLY hires an illegal... Sort of like knowingly accepting stolen goods.

I thought it was also illegal to hire an illegal alien. I mean why not just say why punish companies for hiring underage workers (who, like illegals would work for less, perhaps) when if they hadn’t applied for the job in the first place they wouldn’t have been hired. Or the pawn shop for buying stolen goods even if they know the guy selling them is a thief. All are enablers in these situation and all should be culpable. When they hire an illegal, especially right now when people are desperate for work, is punishing an American who wants to work to put food on the table for their family. The one most hurt in this situation is the legal citizen who can’t get the job because he/she would have to be paid minimum wage and the illegal can be paid less.

If times were good and jobs were going unfilled, hiring illegals would still be wrong, but in these times this really shows how hostile the obummer administration is to the American people and their well being.
