Tea Party protesters refused entry into congressional buildings
Washington Examiner ^ | 03/20/10 3:15 PM EDT | Mark Hemingway

Posted on 03/20/2010 12:41:33 PM PDT by Former Military Chick

As part of today's rally to stop the Democrats' health care reform legislation thousands of protesters descended on the lawn of Capitol building. But many more were also using the occasion to visit the their congressional representative and tell them what they think of the bill.

However, Capitol Police recently stopped allowing any of the peaceful protesters to enter into congressional buildings. Crowds are now gathering in front of the House and Senate offices, demanding that they be let in to air their constituent concerns.

Republicans weren't a doormat. They didn't have a filibuster proof senate and still had the mainstream media against them.

Do the Democrats have a filibuster proof Senate?  Oh, that's right they don't do they.  And without it, they are poised to drive through one of the most digusting pieces of legislation in our nation's history.  With the takeover of health care, the federal government will have turned our nation into a Fascist state.

Did the Republicans fight this hard for your and my agenda during the Bush years?  The answer is painfully obvious.

Look, you can't win every battle.  You still have to fight them.  Did our guys fight them?  Did Bush and the Republicans in Congress try to push through agenda items that were important, or did they just cave and forget about trying?  I submit they caved.  There was no burst of Conservatism out of the gate.  It was more like someone passed gas, and the administration was too timid to ask folks to come back together after the air cleared.  Dismal is about the only word you can use.

You say that there is a tea party? well that's the best thing that could happen --- but only to the Democrats and their goal of turning the U.S. into a socialist state.

Why would we need a tea party if the Republicans in Congress were doing their job?  Oh yeah, there is that...

Honest to God, how old are you, 19?  If not, why are you still acting as if you only had a nineteen year old's comprehension of the Republican party?

Another party will divide the conservative vote between the tea party and the GOP which will make the democrat majority even greater and then democrats can turn the U.S. into the USSR, Cuba or North Korea. Then all Americans will be starving slaves as happened in all fully socialist countries. This is the media's goal.

Unfricken believable...  If the Tea Party puts people in Congress, who will they caucus with?  Evidently you think it would be the Democrats?  No, they would be caucusing with the Republicans.  And guess what, as the Republican party numbers in Congress decline, the number of actual Conservatives in Congress would do what?  Yes, grow.  And once it became evident that the Republican members of Congress would be replaced to a man, the party would finally have to face up to the fact that Conservatism does sell, and RINOism is a death sentence.

Is that what you mean by saying, this is the media's goal?  LMAO  Yeah right...

You and your ilk are bashing Republicans at a time when it is democrats/Marxists who are performing a socialist/communist/marxist takeover of a free country America:

My ilk as you reference them, were plenty good enough to vote for Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, Bob Dole, and George Bush.  Nobody was calling me ilk then.  When I was out on the streets protesting for Republican causes, I was just peachy.  Now that I'm slamming RINOism for all it's treachery, the selling out of our nation from our own side, I'm public enemy number one at the RNC.  Well, if thinking we should stick to our Constitution warrants a curse, then I relish being cursed.  If I am ilk, at least I'm ilk that thinks our Founding Fathers were wise men, and those that don't follow their leadership today, are actually on the same side as Obama more often than I can countenance.  If you won't adhere to Article 4, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution, then you're an enemy of our nation.  If you push for new government programs that do not adhere to founding principles, then you're a part of the problem.  And our Republicans in Congress today, ARE part of the problem.

Yet you don't even bash Democrats.

I trash Republicans for being RINOs, but you think I need to state that I don't like Democrats or what they are doing?  Do I really need to address the lack of logic on your part?

Republicans are not socialists like democrats ARE and republicans never in 12 years tried to turn 1/6 of the economy over to the government.

So the implementation of the Medication additon to Medicare was not a Socialist act.  And of course, taking over a massive private sector concern and puting it in the government provisor sector, is a swell idea that follows founding principles.   And saying we could have contributed to a much better take-over of the health care industry, isn't a Fascist enabling move.  Well that's good to know.  And this from a guy that can't figure out that I don't like the Democrat agenda, if I won't countenance RINOism.

After 1994 republicans had a bare majority which they used to stop Clinton’s government healthcare.

I'm not as convinced of that as you seem to be, but okay, let's accept your version.  And that cleared the way for Republicans to implement government health care by incrementalism.  Today medication, tomorrow the world...

You're living in a dream state if you think the Republicans weren't going to give us nationalized health care in time.  In the past few months, if you had been paying attention, you would have heard countless Republicans saying our party had many ideas that had the Democrats listened to them, they would have made this health care bill easy to pass.  Do the implications of that escape you?

But Republicans and Bush never had the filibuster proof senate so Democrats could block/filibuster any Republican legislation or any Bush supported legislation.

The Democrats don't have a fillibuster proof Senate.  The Republicans could have filibustered.  Did they?  Did they bottle this up in committee at any point in time?  Hell no.  There was always at least one Republican turncoat that gave a Republican vote.

What we had for 12 years of the Republican bare majority and Bush years was for the most part gridlock which is not bad if we weren’t already in the hole democrats put us in the past 100 years before 1994. Before 1994 Democrats controlled congress for 60 years and the liberal media had a complete monopoly which democrats and the media used to grow this government, create mandatory spending programs, and put us in this mess which Republicans or Bush had nothing to do with but were saddled with.

What a complete load of crap.  Yes, the Democrats used to have the majority, and did for many years, but that's only half the story.  Demographics have changed in recent years, but for much of the worst legislation in our nation's history, that we have been saddled with, some Republicans had to agree to pass it.  The Civil Rights legislation could not have passed without the Republicans.  Much of the Welfare State couldn't have passed without the Republicans.  The Great Society programs went through with Republican support.  So wax rapsodic if you like, the fact is, the go along to get along sect of the Republican has been alive for a long time, and this sector of the party over the decades edged out the Republicans who knew better.  Today the Republican party is a vast wasteland as for as Conservatism is concerned.

I waited forty-three years to see the Republicans gain control of Congress.  It was a dream of a lifetime to see it.  Today at 58 years of age, what they did with it was one of the biggest disappointments of my life.  Winners produce.  Losers make excuses.  Complete jackasses implement the oppositions agenda for them.  That's the legacy of our Congressional leadership when we had control.

GOP bashers and the media say: "why didn't Republicans cut this program with mandatory spending increases, or do this this or that or cut this or that". It's because Republicans never had a 60% of the Senate and so never had a fillibuster proof senate so that Democrats could block/filibuster anything.

Why didn't you say this another five times in your response?  I mean seriously, if you had said it eight times instead of three, it would have had so much more impact.  The Democrats don't have a filibuster proof Senate.

So all these Bush and GOP bashing talking points are all lies, created by the liberal media.

To coin a phrase, bull s--t!  Put down the bong, back away, go sleep it off.  There's always an excuse for the RINOs.  If it isn't one think it's another.  The lefties didn't force Bush to cut our nuclear warheads by two thirds.  The lefties didn't force the passage of the medication addition to Medicare.  The leftist didn't force leaving the border of the United States undefended.  The lefties didn't force Bush to formalize the one theater level of military preparedness.  The lefties didn't force Bush to double the budget of the Department of Education in less than four years.  On and on and on it goes, and all you can do is lay into me for calling the RINOs on the treachery they have been involved in.

And they are meant to divide conservatives and they have.

No, they have NOT!  Conservatives are still Conservatives.  Luke warm buckets of leftist horse sweat who have diluded themselves into thinking they were Conservatives, are still luke warm buckets of horse sweat.  They will ignore the obvious to defend Republican who sell out Conservatism against all Conservatives who call them on it.  That's been the case for decades, and it still is today.

The real problem for folks like you, is that we have our back up against the wall today.  I and others are simply unwilling to let you lie your way out of this any longer.  I and others simply will not ride in the same car with you going thirty-five miles per hour, if it's going to get us to the same destination the Democrats will get us to going fifty mph.  Those days are over.  And you can either come to terms with it, or you can watch the Republican party destroy itself over it.  And frankly, the sooner the better.

this is the media's goal to turn conservatives against the GOP and to divide conservatives.

Conservatives defend the U.S. Constitution, our Founding Fathers, U.S. sovereignty, and the principles that drove the founding of this nation.  The Republican party no longer does.  You can't divide something that was never unified.  The Republican party leadership does not identify with Conservatives.  We are radicals to them.  John MeCain, the party's last Presidential nominee has trashed Conservatives and the Tea Party members a number of times.  Once again, because this must sink in, the Republican party is not synonymous with Conservatism.  It's a sad reality, but it is none the less reality.

If conservatives do not unite behind the GOP then Democrats will keep winning and will complete the socialist/communist/marxist takeover of America which is the liberal mainstream media's goal.

Oh yes, if we won't march off the same cliff with you, that the Democrats are marching off at a faster pace, we are the problem.  Has it never dawned on you, that the cliff is the problem and that no matter what pace you march off it at, destruction is certain to follow?

And "conservatives" who don't support the GOP and bash Republicans are Lenin's "useful idiots".

I appreciate the attempt to cast me as the bad guy here.  It is sad to see what passes for logic for some people, but that's life.

Great AAR! I made the main show but pooped out on the rest. Talked with a National Guardsman from Iowa while taking refreshment in the Irish Times. He indicated that Congressman King is facing redistricting because Iowa is losing population. I sure hope he finds a way to still serve the people of Iowa and the United States. He's a bright light for us.

I wouldn’t drive in downtown SF either! The HILLS terrify me. Drive to the edge of their public transportation system and take that. Make it a road trip with other Freepers, pretend you’re back in college (no beer in the car these days, though!), find an oldies station to sing along to.

Thanks so much for the ping and report! I received a report from a friend here in Florida who was there. This account of the rally in DC yesterday is from Barb, from our Pinellas 9/12 group. Barb is a true patriot and great leader of our Pinellas local group. I just wanted to share her very touching after action report.
Jean St. Pete, FL
****************

I arrived on Friday night in Washington one more time by USAir late. Checked into the Hotel Harrington, a clean hotel right off of Pennsylvania Ave and 11th. This time I have no closet and no coffee maker. In observing the spartan room, I think “It is clean.” and reflect on George Washington’s troops marching in the snow...
Anyway, our member Patriot Betsi picks me up at 10am at the hotel for the short ride to the Capitol and we are lucky to find a parking spot and decide to gamble on the remote possibility that the car will be there when we return at the end of the day.
upon arriving we decide to “visit” a few of the congressional members that have flopped over as a yes including Allen Boyd of the Tallahassee area. we were greeted by 20 something year olds who acted like grown ups. they weren’t. They explained to us all the reasons Congressman boyd had decided to vote for the bill, and I had to drag Betsi out of the office, telling her, forget it they are 20 something years old. we left.
I was just told by the hotel they are closing the computer room. I will finish in the morning! The day was great. Part 2 int he morning.

Good morning Friends,
To continue with the recap of the history that Betsi and I witnessed yesterday in Washington at the anti healthcare rally, I must start with going back. A couple months ago, I became obsessed with the idea that we needed to add war drums to our protests. A couple weeks ago you may recall that we had the “Going on the WarPath” Protests in Tampa and St Pete when several of us dressed at Native Americans in the spirit of the first revolutionary Boston Tea Party. Our Member Linda brought 2 fantastic authentic Indian drums and they were especially effective on 4th St and Gandy in St Pete.
So, Friday before I left town I was able to locate Red Eagle in St Pete, a Lakota Sioux Native American, and I purchased 2 drums he had made to bring with us. Made from Buffalo and sinew. Can you believe it! And they are LOUD and booming. Unbelievable. Thank you Red Eagle for the last minute help you and your family offered!

So there we are wagging through the Halls of Congress with wardrums!

By 11am crowds were beginning to arrive and it was at this point we walked across the street to the Capitol Lawn to join the already huge crowd gathered on the West Lawn. We began to beat our drums in typical Indian War Beat...BOOM boom boom boom BOOM boom boom boom.
Truly, it was just the greatest touch to the agitated and energized mass of unhappy citizens! As the sun beat down and there were no leaves yet to offer the blessing of shade, Betsi and I moved under a stand of evergreen Magnolia trees at the foot of the Capital Building, where we stood all day and acted as the sound effects for the rally. By some miracle the ground security guards left us alone the entire time. Lots of People took our picture, and why not, we must have been a sight!
Then suddenly, across the landscape came the sound of a perfect “Charge” by a Trumpet! I look over on a nearby hill and there stands a man playing his bugle to the crowd to their roaring approval! Then he plays America the Beautiful and everyone sang.
This man came directly over to us later and said our drums had inspired him to return to his apartment to go get his trumpet as he lived only 8 blocks away! It was a tearful moment. The drums, the trumpet, the roar of the people was shaking the legislators inside. Mike Pence said they could hear all this “noise” inside!

Beginning at noon, the rally speakers came out one by one, conservative Representatives such as Michele Bachmann, Mike Pence, Steve King. The instructions were given by the organizers of the event to storm the Congressional offices at 2pm.
And to Surround the Capital at 5pm.
At 2pm straight up the crowd of anywhere from 50,000 to 70,000 started descending on the congressional offices. They consists of 3 mammoth buildings across the street from the Capital. They are the Longworth, the Cannon and the Rayburn. Betsi and I positioned ourselves under another tree in the middle of the moving crowd. A man in a suit was sitting on the ground reading the Bible, specifically the Book of Mathew. Betsi and I joined him in a wonderful prayer and he then moved over to the rolling lawn in front of the Capital and began a prayer group there. The rest of the day groups of people were joining him on that hill praying on their hands and knees.
At one point the huge throngs of people standing on the steps of the various congressional offices were screaming and sirens were wailing. It was pretty threatening, and Betsi and I decided not to go too close. It was very volatile.
As the afternoon wore on, people began to circle the Capitol, holding hands, completely encircling this huge complex. The legislators were inside. They were shook up by all accounts.
And I should mention, throughout the day there was no sign of any support for the legislation, no signs, no groups promoting the passage, except for a group of perhaps 10 young kids in their twenties that showed up in the evening. One kept yelling “Promote the public welfare” as though that means healthcare is a role of the Federal Government.
So, this was the day. And today, Sunday, we meet at 11am for a church service on the grounds of the Capital and the Christian Legislators are meeting at 11am on the inside in the Rotunda for the first time in 100 years to hold a religious service. The first time in 100 years!
Please, at 11am gather your family and pray for our country and for the defeat of this vote and the restoration of the Republic.
The vote is at 2pm the last I heard.
And if you know anyone living in the area encourage them to come to the capitol today to join, we need all the bodies we can round up, as many buses left yesterday to head home.

I took pictures last night standing on the backside of our beautiful Capitol as the sun was setting, to mark perhaps the last time the sun would set on our free republic. God bless America, God save America.

Okay great. So when the Presidential nominee of our party said there was nothing to fear from an Obama administration, and praised the Democrats and their agenda, that proved to you that the Republican party was on the right track.

Well... okay... if you say so.

And you’re upset because I’m damaging Conservatism for the Democrats.
