The Internal Revenue Service would gain sweeping new powers under President Obama's healthcare reform proposals, in what Republicans on the House Ways and Means Committee are calling a "dangerous expansion" of IRS powers.
That's according to a nine-page Republican report from the Committee on Ways and Means on Thursday. It's titled "The Wrong Prescription" Democrats' Health Overhaul Dangerously Expands IRS Authority."
Among the new powers the IRS would assume, the report says: The authority to confiscate tax refunds, to impose fines of over $2,200 per taxpayer, and to verify whether taxpayers' health insurance coverage is "acceptable."
One measure of the scope of the IRS' new responsibilities under the healthcare overhaul: The agency might have to hire as many as 16,500 additional auditors, agents, and other employees in order to administer the program, according to Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., the ranking Republican on the Ways and Means Committee.

I think you hit the heart of where many of us are at right now. The anger is there but the heart break for what we can see happening to our great country before our very eyes is enough to make a person go into a type of mourning.
We must pray and fast in repentance for the sins of this congress and for the salvation of our country.
No longer will the world know the generosity of the great nation of America because we will be broken like many other countries that went down this road.
Much like GW Bush. They will miss us when we are gone, but my heart breaks today.
The IRS is going to be the enforcement arm and it wont be long before they need armed guards. Maybe even a civilian force as well funded as the US military. Now where have I heard that before?

But remember, if you try to not pay these fines or go to prison, most FReepers agree that you’re “stealing from us all”.
They can try, but they have to find it, first. It will be much harder for them to confiscate the gold than it will be all those CDs, IRAs, 401Ks, etc. that are conveniently sitting in banks that are 'too big to fail'.
It will also be harder to find the gold than it will be to find your house, farm, ranch, or other real estate that has been surveyed, plotted, and recorded in the county records since long before any of us were born.

I just got my RE license and became a member of the multiple listing service. We get access to property tax records through MLS (it is public record) and the stuff that the county assessor posts online about your house, how much your mortgage is, any property you own in the county, etc. is shocking.
Gold or other “precious” metals are bearer instruments that are not held in “accounts” with various institutions that report to the IRS.
Not me my friend. I always find it the perfect irony that one of Hitler’s last living relatives was an IRS agent who was killed in a car crash up in NY back in the 1990s. It certainly fits the the family profile.
