Dems turn risky health vote into manhood contest

With their backs to the wall, Democratic leaders are preparing a complicated plan to pass their national health care bill. Standing in the way are Democrats who oppose the bill, whether on principle or out of fear that voting for a wildly unpopular measure will spell defeat for them in November.

If you think House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is going to let them off easy, allowing them to kill the party's top policy priority in more than a generation -- well, that's not gonna happen. Democrats who are considering voting against the bill are about to experience arm-twisting, threats, and pressure like they've never experienced.

I called a Democratic strategist with a question: Say I'm a moderate Democrat. I voted for the House bill last November, but I've seen the polls, I know a majority in my district opposes the bill, and I feel certain that voting for final passage will end my time in office. Why should I vote yes?

"Look, you voted for it before," said the strategist, who asked to remain anonymous. "You should have thought about that then. You're stuck with the vote, it's around your neck, you're going to wear it like an albatross. The ad that's going to run against you is going to be the same whether you vote for it now or not.

"The Republicans are going to be able to frame what you did their way, and you're going to need to be able to frame it a different way, to say that you fought to make health insurance more affordable and insurance companies more accountable.

"And if you're a bedwetting crybaby, you should just go home right now."

Actually I think a lot of them should go home. If an ethical person was elected to serve the public and yet is unable to do the right thing when the choice comes down to doing what he was elected to do, or satisfying a party boss, then the only thing to do is resign.

Or they can reject the helthcare agenda and seize control of the party after the 2010 and 2012 elections remove the healthcare crowd from office.

Yeah, that or a nice big bribe to make their time out of office well worth it. Hey, whatever works.

I just wish one of them would be a real American and think of this country first. Any moderate that would expose the commie tactics would become an instant political superstar. Not only with the right either.

I wont hold my breath.

LOL. The rats, with a few exceptions, ARE the healthcare crowd. There would be hardly any left if they kicked out the ones who don’t want to seize control of health care.

A (small) part of me hopes the rats follow Pelosi off of the cliff......the political
bloodbath that would ensue will realign Congress, to the right, for a generation. A
larger part of me hopes that a coalition of politically savvy (AKA self-serving)
democrats mutiny, and throw San Fran Nan overboard.

Does anyone believe that there are enough Democrats with gonads big enough to stand on principle? They are more like eunuchs than men. Pelosi has more testosterone than the men in her party.

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

The cause is well known and it is just. When the alleged leader of a democratic republic places his own wishes so above those of the complete body politic, he is no longer worthy of the title, leader, no matter what office he might occupy.

Only a fool with no clear appreciation of, or for, America past and present, would dare undertake what this pustule in the White House is attempting to do. It is contingent upon the Republican Party to undertake every step, every maneuver it can to bring this government to a halt.

This Democratic ‘strategist’ seems like another inside the Beltway meddlesome amateur.

The House bill that they all voted for in November is DEAD.

They are voting on a completely DIFFERENT bill, the Senate bill. That, in and of itself, is justification for changing ones vote...Duh.

And if Bart Stupak voted for the initial House bill with no abortion funding then of course he is going to change his vote and vote against the Senate bill which HAS abortion funding...Duh.

And if a number of true committed progressives voted for the initial House bill with a public option, of course they are not going to vote for a Senate bill which does NOT have a public option...Duh.

By all the genital urination comments, I can only think that the Democratic ‘strategist’ in question is probably the only man in the entire country who looks like a male phallus:

James Carville.

You are making a few assumptions there. The biggest one being that there will *be* elections this fall and in 2012.
