BOSTON -- Gay men should be allowed to donate blood and laws banning them from doing so are discriminatory and outdated, according to Sen. John Kerry and several of his Senate colleagues.
"Not a single piece of scientific evidence supports the ban, Kerry said. A law that was once considered medically justified is today simply outdated and needs to end."
Kerry was one of 16 U.S. Senators who in a letter on Thursday asked the Food and Drug Administration to lift the ban on gay men donating blood. The ban was put in place in 1983, at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis and before modern screening and advanced testing methods for HIV were developed.

HIV amongst homosexual men is endemic...what a dumbass
EXCELLENT OBSERVATION!!! Absolutely. I didn’t get it but now that you say it, that’s obviously what he’s doing this for.
Hateful fiend.
On a somewhat different topic,my synagogue is liberal, even though my Rabbi is from an orthodox background, and I hope that same-sex couples will not be married or even called up to read from the Torah. We are all sinners but the gays are unrepentant about it,and they have the chutzpah to say that G-d made them that way.Right.
"Don't deny me your precious bodily fluids. I'm ready for your essence."
Just about the only good thing about John Edwards' looming indictment is the possibility that he will take a few others down with him in his attempts to pull strings.
What is virtually zero? I suppose it means not 100%. Does anyone want to take that chance?
Liberals are so obsessed with the politics of AIDS they are overlooking the fact that this ban preceded AIDS and was related to hepatitis which queers are at an EXTREME high risk for.
I think it will happen in the Reconstruction, Reform, and Conservative synagogues. Will there be a lot of debate over it? Sure, but the Left will win them. The only place to flee to is the Othodox schuls.
Amalek is just laughing right now.
I bet there won’t be a debate;it’s too liberal a congregation.I hope it doesn’t happen, though.I’ll be pissed about it.Some of them need to refer to Leviticus on that issue! Get this-one of the members of the Temple, who’s on the board, called the rabbi an f’n bastard to the rabbi’s face, and told him to “f” off! He hasn’t been thrown out of the congregation or anything! As far as the Orthodox shuls,I like to wear my tallit and kippot and I don’t think they’d let me. In fact,I have 13 kippot, more than most men! I’d like to learn to lay tefilin, and there’s no prohibition to do so for the women.
People that engage in unhealthy activities e.g. anal sex, IV drug use are not safe blood donors...
The data, presented at CDC's 2010 National STD Prevention Conference, finds that the rate of new HIV diagnoses among men who have sex with men (MSM) is more than 44 times that of other men and more than 40 times that of women.Source: CDC Analysis Provides New Look at Disproportionate Impact of HIV and Syphilis Among U.S. Gay and Bisexual MenThe range was 522-989 cases of new HIV diagnoses per 100,000 MSM vs. 12 per 100,000 other men and 13 per 100,000 women.
The rate of primary and secondary syphilis among MSM is more than 46 times that of other men and more than 71 times that of women, the analysis says. The range was 91-173 cases per 100,000 MSM vs. 2 per 100,000 other men and 1 per 100,000 women.
While CDC data have shown for several years that gay and bisexual men make up the majority of new HIV and new syphilis infections, CDC has estimated the rates of these diseases for the first time based on new estimates of the size of the U.S. population of MSM. Because disease rates account for differences in the size of populations being compared, rates provide a reliable method for assessing health disparities between populations.

this is “retaliation”...by the elites...against We the People who refuse to acknowledge their superiority and “accept” their healthcare prescription....
One can have HIV for up to 6 mos before the test turns positive. Are you willing to play roulette?
He may indeed be an idiot; he is also evil. Well meaning idiots don’t do as much harm.
Awesome stuff. Extrapolating to a force of 2 million with 3% homosexual, that means 755/100000 and a total of 453 AIDs cases.
That means 453 NEW walking time bombs with HIV in the walking blood supply and scattered randomly throughout that force.
Are you going to let your son receive blood from these or blood-soaked 1st aid from these.
1st AID....no pun, just solemn recognition of a morale killing problem with homosexuals in the force.
Morale, Unit Cohesion, and Health. All are battlefield issues.
Statistically, I believe that figure to be true.
Kerry is dangerous.
Being HIV positive is more than just a badge of honor for members of the "gay community" - - it actually establishes their bona fides.
It is expected.
Most of the talk on this thread has been about HIV, with a bit about hepatitis. There are two problems:
1) the tests for existing known diseases are pretty accurate, but not totally accurate
2) new diseases keep popping up that we don’t know we should be screening for. This was the case originally with HIV, and was the case with Hepatitis C or a while.
What population is statistically likely to be the incubator and reservoir for new diseases? Answer: the one with the highest rate of blood/fluid exchange. So, NO. Is Lurch a complete idiot? But, I repeat myself.
