Two hours before President Obama opened his health care summit, and two blocks away, a couple dozen reporters gathered at the invitation of the Christian Science Monitor for a breakfast at which the reform proposal's doom was foreshadowed.
The guests for the group interview were Bill McInturff, a Republican pollster whose firm advised John McCain in his presidential campaign and lists dozens of other congressional Republicans among its clients, and Newt Gingrich, who became speaker of the House largely by leading the fight in 1994 to kill the Clintons' effort at health reform.
McInturff came armed with his latest poll. The numbers are striking. By 52% to 40%, the voters he surveyed oppose the health care bills developed by the administration and congressional Democrats, with more than twice as many strongly opposed as are strongly supportive.
By a similar margin, 54% to 42%, they support the Republican argument for starting over and focusing on smaller pieces of legislation embodying areas of bipartisan agreement, rather than merging the more comprehensive reform bills passed by the House and Senate and sending a measure to the president soon.
A bit later in the day, during the session at Blair House, Obama cited other polls showing broad support for provisions in the pending bills that would change insurance rules to tear down barriers for those with pre-existing illnesses and remove the caps on benefit payments.

GIVE ME SOME INPUT FOLKS: If they ram this Health Care Package through, against the will of the people....do you think that by Election Day, November 2, 2010, most folks will have “cooled down” and most of the Democrat incumbents will be returned to office. Or......
Do you think the American people will still be mad a heck and vote the rascals out? Give me your HONEST opinions. Thanks.
People haven’t cooled down since last August. Obama is so arrogant and stupid that there’s little chance he won’t continue to remind the American people why they were mad in the first place.
Or 5: All of the Above.
MAO-bama is a radical Marxist whose #1 goal is the overthrow of America's free market system and replaced with govt controlled socialism. Nothing else matters - polls, protest speeches, Tea Partiers, elections, etc.
MAO-bama will do ANYTHING to implement govt controlled health to enable TOTAL control over our lives.

"Socialism is just the last "feel good step on the path to Communism and its slavery."
Medicine (health care control) is the keystone of the arch of socialism.

One thing that really troubles me is that if Obozo and the commies pass this Deathcare bill, people say they cannot turn it back.
Okay, I do not believe this at all. If you can institute this, you can take it back. Am I the only one who finds it odd that the most “brilliant”, as those describe themselves who come up with this crap, are not brilliant enough to turn it back....or is it really that whoever gets to have this power do not want to?
Name a Federal program that has been eliminated in the last 20 years.
I can’t, but that still does not answer my question. The others have been in place many years. I do seem to remember Bush trying to change the SS program, don’t you?
...and he failed.
Once FedGov gets into the healthcare game it will push out the other players. When that happens it won't matter if you think you can get it overturned. There won't sufficient non-government healthcare providers to turn to.
Consider if a sitting president decided to eliminate all Federal funding of education. The current education system would collapse. There's no effective way to fund most school systems because they are set up to take the Federal dollar. There wouldn't be enough excess capacity in the religious and private school system to allow most people to go elsewhere.
I am talking about turning it back prior to be implemented.
That is scheduled for “in the future” or until after the 2012 elections.
These things are best fixed by not letting them get started at all. Much cheaper and much more likely to work.
I totally agree. Take a look at Greece. That is our future.
What would people do now, or how would people act, if our government went bankrupt tomorrow and no checks were going out to anybody?
It will happen if things do not change.
I still believe that this could be turned around. Anything is possible, anything.
