NBC News: Oh Canada, We See So Many Upsides in Your Single-Payer Health Care
Newsbusters ^ | February 26, 2010 | Jeff Poor

Although the Canadian health care system may kind of work for its roughly 33 million people and still have a myriad of downsides, its hard to imagine it could be sustainable in the United States, with 304 million people. But looking at the Canadian system was how NBC News decided to handle its follow-up to the health care summit.

On the Feb. 25 broadcast of the "NBC Nightly News," anchor Brian Williams posed the question whether the Canadian system was better. Though the report pointed out some flaws, NBC made nationalized care seem nice.

"As Washington grapples with its seemingly irreconcilable differences over health care, here in Canada that question was settled decades ago," Williams said. "Canada has universal health insurance, what's known in the U.S. as a single-payer system. Who's to say it's a better way?"

Well if Canada’s healthcare system so very good, why did the premier went to Miami for heart surgery?

Yeah but if it passes in the US, where will Canadians go to get their health care when they need it?

I’m from BC and the way it works: just like liquor, just like car insurance which are controlled by the govt, you still have to pony up the (premiums) dough to the gubmint regardless. The unionized nurses and doctors dont like that you go to a private hospital and clinic.

That's interesting about the private clinics. I have read that private insurance is not allowed in Canada, and I have read that it is allowed. I'm not sure which is accurate. But, I would be curious if those clinics accept any kind of private insurance, or if it's a "cash only" business.

I also thought it was interesting that the Canadian prime minister made a point to say that his recent surgery in the US was paid for by funds out of his own pocket, indicating that no kind of insurance, public or private, was used.

When WIlliams checks in at the Vancouver Hospital with his gravely ill son/daughter/wife for some life saving medical intercession of medical care then I will consider his input.

Until then, stow it Brian, your just posing as some out of touch Limousine Liberal who like Marie Antoinette says for the poor people like us - “let them eat cake”.

Single Payer is good for those poor bastards like us but would never even be a remote consideration for you and your family.

Yeah, watching the Olympics these past 2 weeks has caused me to see more NBC news than I’ve seen in years and I saw this “gagger” of a report. I really wonder if NBC thinks we’re that stupid. I guess they do.

I’m wondering if any of the American NBC anchors would ask to be transferred to an American hospital if they fell ill or had a serious injury during their coverage of the Olympics. Would they stay in Canada or insist that they would be flown back to the US?

Oh of course they would want to be transferred to the US..Liberals are HYPOCRITES, they want a single payer system because that is what liberals have always wanted, full Government control over every aspect of our lives, but NOT their lives. They would want a nice American hospital. Notice in the health care bill, members of Congress are exempt, they don’t have to be covered by this crap because they want their cadillac plans while we all suffer with this single payer crap

When Senator Lautenberg got sick and told them he wanted to go the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

Under Obama care that is not allowed. Hmm

Right,

Which explains why there is an average waiting list of 2 years for people to join a clinic for all that “free” care. And they are told which doctor they will see on a limited basis.

The same will happen here. Clinics will be assigned to us by the district we live in. And there will a long wait for all aspects of future care.

Yep, in Canada, when they say single payer they mean single payer..EVERYONE is covered, Government officials, everyone. Notice how here with ObamaCare, Senators, Congressmen, they are exempt from this garbage. Of course they want to be exempt, they don’t want their precious little bodies being taken care of by Government, but they want us all to suffer under this nonsense. What hypocrites, they wouldn’t last a month under Obamacare

On the Feb. 25 broadcast of the "NBC Nightly News," anchor Brian Williams posed the question whether the Canadian system was better.

Yes the Canadian system is so good that the premier of Newfoundland came to The States for his cardiac surgery/treatment. As he said 'it's my health and my decision.' Did Brian Williams report that?

Canadian VIP's often come to the United States for care. I can't recall the name but I think a very important MP just came to the United States for a procedure unavailable in Canada. Or even if the procedures are available in Canada, there can be a long wait. For some conditions, a long wait can be fatal. That's why this particular MP came to US. When his life was on the line, he wanted the best care and he wanted it ASAP. I wonder how many of the common folk expire waiting for a procedure? I don't even have to watch NBC to know that they will not address this in their coverage. NBC & MSNBC are beyond pathetic.

Of course, the USA is Canada’s last best hope for quality medical care.

Where do we go?
