FORT WORTH -- Marvin Bahnman doesn't like where the country is headed.
He believes in small government, fiscal responsibility and conservatism.
So he carried a sign that said "You can't fix stupid, but you can vote them out" outside the Cowtown Coliseum in the Stockyards, where a get-out-the-vote rally Saturday drew supporters of the Tea Party and 912 Fort Worth grassroots movements.
"I'm not a Republican," said Bahnman, 74, of Fort Worth. "I am a conservative."
Inside the coliseum, decorated with candidate signs, flags and balloons, dozens of candidates on the March 2 Republican primary ballot spoke to hundreds gathered there.
For many, Saturday was a chance to hear from some candidates who feel the way they do -- tired of big government and career politicians.
"I'm concerned about the direction the country is going with freedoms, spending and big government," said Daniel Esparza, 45, of Fort Worth. "We need people who will bring us back to following the Constitution."
Former Secretary of State Roger Williams kicked off the rally, hosted by the United Conservative Coalition of Texas, which represents the Tea Party, 912 and other conservative groups in North Texas.

She was also flotinting some rumor about medinas family that had no backing.
Could you tell me what that rumor is? I’ve asked her about the husband thing but she won’t give specifics, just says it’s a rumor floating around the net. Thus she deals in rumor, inuendo, etc. Her creds aren’t to be trusted that’s for sure, imo.
Sorry I didn’t pay attention to the specifics of the rumor. You can probably look through patriot08s posts to find out more.
No, she isn’t, but you and glenn beck can continue to pretend, nancy.
Yeah, well Jimmuh Carter had lots of experience. Experience means NOTHING. Wisdom means everything.
LOL. Yah, we all heard evidence of Medina’s “wisdom” on Glen Beck’s radio show.
I have no idea. BY what frickin logic doe two open borders RINOS continue to push for open borders and amnesty year after year.
My guess is someone is lining their evil pockets. OR they are just really that dumb.
Funny, so did everyone else, yet she never said she believed any of it.
Gay rights? That’s a new (and false) one.
Right. And politicians never lie after making an embarrassing admission in public. LOL! Stop making me laugh!
LOL! Thanks for the well-reasoned reply!
“Our time has come”, sounds to much like the “we are the ones we’ve been waiting for!” spouted by Bozo.
ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! Massive crowd!!!!!!!!!
Cautious? Why would a conservative politician have to be cautious about simply saying, "No!" I don't believe our government brought down the twin towers. Either she believes they did or she believes they didn't and her answer makes it clear she believes they did. Even when the "clarified" her statement later she danced around the NO answer and didn't say it.
If you think she was being "cautious" you have blinded yourself to what this woman really believes, IMO.
BTW, I don't live in Texas but if I did I wouldn't vote for this woman.
I want people to take a breath and look at what the Paulestinians are vigorously defending here. The kind of people they aren’t willing to disavow.
They defend her because she SAYS she’s for limited government, and possibly because, even though she’s not saying so now, she knows *wink, wink* the truth.
What has she ever DONE about limited government?
For that matter, what has Ron Paul ever done? He only makes unusual votes to gain attention to himself on bills whose outcome is not in doubt and he gets earmarks for his district.
There are a lot of non-”libertarian” Congressmen who eschew earmarks altogether and are thus more principled than Paul, even though a case can be made that if the system exists, you have to serve your constituency.
Well, Paul does consistently vote against Israel, so there’s that.
These people aren’t who they say they are. Look at what they are willing to defend.
Either she is a truther or she totally misunderstood the question, either way she is unfit for office, and those that compare her to Palin are full of it too, she has accomplished nothing that compares with what Palin did in Alaska.
I think that's a matter of Dr(i)RP playing to those who make campaign contributions to him. I gather many of his contributors don't like Israel very much.
Just a little what-if theatre:
GLENN BECK: I have when I said that I was going to have you on, you can’t imagine the mail pro and con that I received. There was a theme that ran against you and that is you are an Alamo Truther.
DEBRA MEDINA: Well, there’s lots of mud that people would like to throw at Debra Medina and make stick. The truth is I’m an everyday ordinary person. I am fighting for the things that our founders fought for, those very basic principles of a constitutional republic, and I’m going to champion people that hold their government accountable, hold me accountable but that’s the first time I’ve heard that accusation. So that’s an interesting one.
GLENN: Right. Here’s then let me be more frank and ask you the question: Do you believe the government Republic of Texas was in any way involved with the bringing down of the Alamo in 1836?
MEDINA: I don’t...I don’t have all of the evidence there, Glenn. So I don’t I’m not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments, and I think the Texan people have not seen all of the evidence there. So I’ve not taken a position on that.
Right you are
