He said the current situation in DC reminded him of this old Ed Morrow quote.

Remembering another old WWII-era quote, I wonder if Obama has "Awakened the sleeping tiger" in the Tea Parties?

If the teaparties are to succeed at doing anything worthwhile, they need to elect people at all levels of government who will work to shrink the beast.

You’ll get nowhere but further enslaved if all you do is replace one set of statists with another with different priorities in how government should grow.

It is time to SHRINK government, not use it to get back at people you don’t like.

I’m on our local zoning commission. I do it for free even though other members accept pay.

I have a full time job already and it’s the least I can do to give to the community.....and kept the zoning board from ding something stupid.

I believe that quote was "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant."

There is some disagreement as to whether Yamamoto actually spoke these words, however.

Yes. That is the (?) I was refering to.

I believe he could have said it. he was very much anti-war (with US) until forced to launch the attacks. He had been to the US and England. He did not fear our existing Army or Navy, but our industrial ability to REPLACE war materiel when needed.

Another quote attributed to him at the beginning of the war but not verified is "I can run wild for six months … after that, I have no expectation of success".

Interestingly, the battle of Midway, which most historians agree was the turning point in the Pacific war, was almost exactly 6 months to the day after Pearl.

Yamamoto is fascinating.
