Suspect in slays fan of ‘Dungeons’ (Amy Bishop)
Boston Herald ^ | 2/16/10 | Laurel J. Sweet

Accused campus killer Amy Bishop was a devotee of Dungeons & Dragons - just like Michael “Mucko” McDermott, the lone gunman behind the devastating workplace killings at Edgewater Technology in Wakefield in 2000.

Bishop, now a University of Alabama professor, and her husband James Anderson met and fell in love in a Dungeons & Dragons club while biology students at Northeastern University in the early 1980s, and were heavily into the fantasy role-playing board game, a source told the Herald.

“They even acted this crap out,” the source said.

Is there a D&D Ping List?

What’s this, two D&D “related” crimes in how many years?

Yawn.

You know I have heard of any number of murderers over the years who followed football.

And then there are all those killings at soccer games.

TV watchers kill people too.
Oh and how many killers also run around shooting people on a playstation.

And those vile comic books.

Clearly, leisure time is the problem,

That or it is fun to denigrate pass times one doesn't participate in.

Yup...connect those two dots and there is quite a trend.

She’s in the dungeon for a long time now and plenty of time to commune with the dragon. She is evil to the bone!

I thought blaming D&D stopped in the 90’s when video games started coming out so those could be blamed instead.

Met at Northeastern University and has a Harvard graduate degree. Wow. From the most blue collar to the most Brahmin school. It’s going to be hard to stick this on social class.

I did not interpret this article as stating that all D&D players are potential killers. But what if a very disturbed individual escalated their D&D role playing into something else? Such as Amy? My entire family plays these games and they’re not killers, but then none of them have the mind of Amy Bishop. Perhaps it is the combination of all of the things in her life, not just the possiiblity that she played or plays D&D. There is no need to get defensive here.

Interesting trivia, a-propos of nothing —In the IDF if a trooper lists D&D as a hobby, he is automatically assigned a non-sensitive job.

The IDF thinks D&D is a sign of a loose connection on reality.

I don’t know if this is any longer the case.

No but I think there is a Ham Radio one. Should be close enough.

Dungeons & Dragons? Is that how they're going to spin this? Ignore ideology?

I thought that she was an acolyte of Obama.

Don't tell me that David and Barbara Mikkelson (Snopes) have rushed out a denial of the ultra-left connection.

Both sons played Dungeons and Dragons from elementary to teens. The younger one was a non-reader until about 3rd grade when he devoured the D & D manuals, always wanting help with the meaning or pronumciation of words he was reading. His goal was to read well enough to be Dungeon Master, which he achieved. Went to to get a scientific Ph.D. The game was a wonderful vehicle for his reading and getting lots of boys together for some fun and laughter. None of the boys in both age groups were ever involved in any crime:-)
