Obama Wants to Track Cellphones; Also Flip-Flops on Iran, Tax Hikes
He pledged to end Bush's "domestic spying." Now he says we have "no reasonable expectation of privacy." He said he wouldn't tolerate a nuclear Iran. And the man who promised not to raise taxes on those making less than $250K is now "agnostic" on the idea.  (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen)

Thursday Quotes:  Last Man Standing
February 10, 2010

"The only way this country is going to be restored to the country you think it is and it always has been, is to get rid of Democrats in power."

"A bunch of people just said to me, 'You've been doing this for 20 years, it must be like clockwork now.'
I said, 'No, no, no.  It is harder than ever to do this because every 20 minutes Obama launches another assault on this country.'
Three of them laughed, and one of them frowned.
So I said to myself, 'Home run.'"

"I guarantee you that Obama and his people are among the elites who think that you are stupid.
And why wouldn't they?  They fooled enough people to get elected."

"Obama continues to call these terrorists 'folks.'
Has anybody told Bill O'Reilly about this yet?
Because Bill O'Reilly owns the term 'folks.'
I mean, Bill O'Reilly is looking out for the 'folks.'"

"Joe Biden was in the Senate for over 30 years, and he was a free-spending liberal.
And Biden dares go on Larry King last night and say he 'inherited' all this?
He helped create it!"

"Believe me, we've looked at a number of different ways of fixing the Dittocam feed, including ripping it all out and starting all over.
We even thought of calling a Democrat tort lawyer."

"'Obama in crisis'?  Well, if David Gergen thinks that, then everybody else in Washington does -- guaranteed."

"From the Huffing and Puffington Post:  'Core Chicago Team Sinking Obama Presidency'.
This is a theme that's been popping up all week, that it's Obama's Chicago advisors that are ruining him.
They forget that Obama himself is a Chicago thug.
You can't separate him from Axelrod."

"Meghan McCain is just an airhead. I don't know what else to say."

"To all of you leftists who were so worried about George Bush spying on you, your guy,
Barack Obama, wants to be able to monitor and track you via your cell phone.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I never use mine."

"Agnostic?  What in the world does Obama mean when he says he's 'agnostic' about raising taxes?
I'm wondering if this is what happens when this guy doesn't have a teleprompter."

"I think what Obama and Biden should do is have a big wallapaloozing ceremony
and name the New Madrid Fault after President Bush so it becomes 'Bush's Fault.'
Well, that seems to be the only thing these people have to say."

"I have a simple question:
Who cares what Obama or his people say about the economy and what they predict for the future?
They have been grossly wrong time and time again!"

"Senator Obama voted for every spending bill that came down the pike, so he cannot distance
himself from all of this debt. In fact, he and the Democrats were asking Bush to spend more!"

"I don't defend AIG, but they were trading derivatives, if you will, that were fundamentally based on loans created by liberal policies.
So I'm really getting fed up with this notion that everything the Obama administration 'inherited' was Bush's fault."

"I've noticed over the last couple of days more and more liberal commentators insulting the American
people as too stupid to understand what's going; some are even saying there's too much democracy.
But there wasn't too much democracy when Obama was running his campaign, was there?"

"You military people, I hope you're hearing these sound bites today because these are the people running your show,
and these are the most dishonest and diabolical people that have ever led this country in my lifetime.
They are sick, mentally unstable people."

"You know, I always say that Obama is the least experienced and qualified guy whenever he walks into a room,
but yesterday was an exception.  Al Sharpton walked into the Oval Office."

"The Democrats don't want any Social Security reform whatsoever, and neither does Obama. He loves deficit spending.
He loves debt!  He loves wrecking the engine that produces the golden goose! He loves killing the golden goose!"

"Robert Gibbs just said, 'We don't believe that Iran has the capabilities to enrich uranium to 20%,'
yet this is the same administration that didn't even know that Iran had a second nuclear power plant
in addition to the one they admitted to, so this is all very reassuring."

"The views expressed by the host of this program are the result of a relentless, unstoppable pursuit of the truth,
and if you can't handle it, you are advised not to listen because you will go nuts."

"I am personally honored and proud to know that I have driven thousands of liberals literally batty…
maybe more than thousands over the course of the 20-plus years of this program."

"If it bugs you that Obama's not being austere in his own life while everybody else has to tighten their belts, fine and dandy.
But what bugs me more is that this guy is single-handedly making it worse on purpose!
That's what frosts me!  The guy has no compassion."

"Basically, Axelrod's been a salesman, a political salesman, his whole life.
These Obama guys have no experience in the real world governing, and we're seeing it now."

"Forty percent of the American people call themselves conservative, while 20 percent of the American people call themselves liberals.
You see, 'progressive' is their way of disguising who they are."

"We are destroying our solar system, and it's all because of you.
Your SUVs, your smokestacks, and all the rest of your gunk that you're putting into the atmosphere...
You think it just stays here?  Have you seen Mars lately?"
Continually repeat ...

It's not about me.
I'm the President.

"Agnostic" on tax increase.

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Do you remember, ladies and gentlemen, all during the last three or four years of the Bush administration, the Patriot Act and the warrantless wiretaps and so forth, the left was crying and moaning and wailing about the loss of civil liberties, freedom, privacy? Bush was spying on them. Bush was listening into their phone calls.  From CNETNews.com: The federal government is pushing for the tracking of cell phones.  "Two years ago, when the FBI was stymied by a band of armed robbers known as the 'Scarecrow Bandits' that had robbed more than 20 Texas banks, it came up with a novel method of locating the thieves.  FBI agents obtained logs from mobile phone companies corresponding to what their cellular towers had recorded at the time of a dozen different bank robberies in the Dallas area. The voluminous records showed that two phones had made calls around the time of all 12 heists, and that those phones belonged to" two men they were able to identify.

"A jury eventually convicted the duo of multiple bank robbery and weapons charges. ... [T]he Obama administration has argued that warrantless tracking is permitted because Americans enjoy no 'reasonable expectation of privacy' in their -- or at least their cell phones' -- whereabouts. US Department of Justice lawyers say that 'a customer's Fourth Amendment rights are not violated when the phone company reveals to the government its own records' that show where a mobile device placed and received calls." Quite understandably here, the ACLU is alarmed. They're very much concerned as are "other civil liberties groups, which have opposed the Justice Department's request and plan to tell the US Third Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia that Americans' privacy deserves more protection and judicial oversight than what the administration has proposed."

Every day -- every day! -- we learn of something new.  I just had a bunch of people come in say to hello, and they said, "You know, you've been doing this 20 years. You probably do it just like clockwork now. You've got a formula down."  I said, "No, no, no, no.  It is harder than ever to do this because when I first started this program I could prep it with three to five newspapers.  Now with the Internet out there, news is being made every minute. I have to keep up with it, have to be able to multitask," and then I said, "Besides, every 20 minutes Obama launches another assault on this country." Three of them laughed and one of them frowned, and I said to myself, "Home run."  But it's true: "Feds Push for Tracking Cellphones."  All of you leftists were so worried about George Bush spying on you, trying to get cameras in your bedroom, and listening to your phone calls?

Now your guy, Barack Obama, wants to be able to monitor and track you via your cell phone -- and, if necessary, be able to get records of where you've been.  Same thing with your library books.  This, ladies and gentlemen, is why I don't use a cell phone. You know, I have a cell phone but never make a call on it.  Sometimes I text with it.  But I never use it.  I hate the phone anyway as you well know.  But they can still track it even if it's off. Even if your phone's off, it's still sending out a signal.  You have to take the battery out of it in order to not be tracked -- and of course if you have an iPhone you can't take the battery out of it. You can't get in there.  Not yet. Check it out, Snerdley.  I know I am right about this.  Don't doubt me.  You have to take the battery out to avoid being tracked. The cell tower still knows where your phone is.  I'm sure Apple knows this. (laughing) Yes, I'm sure Apple's not the only one you can't take... Well, I don't think they're the only one.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, Iran.  They're out there proclaiming that they are now "a nuclear state." The Nutty Near-Professor, Barack Obama, said the United States cannot "tolerate" a nuclear Iran.  Do you remember this?  He also said that we can't "isolate" them because that will accelerate their efforts to get nuclear weapons, but he just imposed sanctions on the affiliates of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.  Now, then again, Professor Obama said that he would create between 3-1/2 and 4 million jobs (with 90% coming in the private sector) if his slush fund was passed.  He said he would close Club Gitmo in a year -- and has given a terrorist Miranda rights after saying this two months after his inauguration Obama reiterated: "Do these folks deserve Miranda rights? Do they deserve to be treated like a shoplifter down the block?"  Of course not!

And then he proceeds to give one of these "folks, "the Fruit of Kaboom Bomber, Miranda rights -- and he continues to call them "folks." These terrorists -- the "folks." Yeah, has anybody told Bill O'Reilly about this yet?  Because Bill O'Reilly owns the term "folks." Bill O'Reilly is looking out for "the folks" and here's Obama now appropriating the term for his own self and referring to terrorists as "the folks." This is going to confuse O'Reilly's audience: Who are the folks?  Also Obama said his number one focus this year was jobs and then calls for a summit on his health care plan.  He said he was post-partisan. He said bankers were crooks.  Then he said bankers were "savvy."  You do not believe the CYA that is going on at the Huffington Post over this, this business of saying, "Hey, I love these guys at Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase! They're savvy business guys. I'm all for people getting wealthy in this country. I got no problem at all with these bonuses." They were livid, fit to be tied yesterday. But now the CYA has begun to suggest that this is not out of the ordinary for what Obama has said.  So now Senator Nutty Professor Obama on Iran.  In a debate lecture during the campaign, he said that we "will not tolerate a nuclear Iran," and he said "our efforts of isolation have actually accelerated their efforts to get nuclear weapons."  He was criticizing Bush, which is strange because Obama just imposed sanctions on affiliates of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.  Sanctions don't isolate?  Much less work?  (laughing) As we are learning. (sigh) So every day...

Here's the fourth Obama story inside of ten minutes.  This is from Bloomberg, and I want you people who make less than $250,000 a year to listen to this. "President Barack Obama said he is 'agnostic' about raising taxes on households making less than $250,000 as part of a broad effort to rein in the budget deficit."  Agnostic?  What in the world does he mean by "agnostic"?  I'm wondering if... This is what happens when this guy doesn't have a teleprompter.  When they turn him loose for the Bloomberg interview, he gums it all up and creates a panic inside the White House and over at the Huffing and Puffington Post, and now he says he is "agnostic" about raising taxes?  Does he mean "antagonistic"?  Agnostic?  Now, "Obama, in a Feb. 9 Oval Office interview, said that a presidential commission on the budget needs to consider all options for reducing the deficit, including tax increases and cuts in spending on entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare. 'The whole point of it is to make sure that all ideas are on the table,' the president said in the interview with Bloomberg BusinessWeek, which will appear on newsstands Friday. 'So what I want to do is to be completely agnostic, in terms of solutions.'"  Agnostic?  Of course the tax increases are going to happen, folks.  We've been telling you this since before he was inaugurated.  There will not be any cuts in entitlement spending.  The Democrats will not allow it. There will not be any cuts in Social Security or any of that.  It will be loudly talked about, a whole lot wailing, a lot of gnashing of teeth but it will never be seriously considered.  So, anyway, you're on the hook now. Those of you under $250,000 a year, a tax increase is now coming your way.  It always was.  If you believed it wasn't, you have just been snookered once again.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  I went to my trusty dictionary on my cell phone, ladies and gentlemen, to look up the word "agnostic" and I had a suspicion here that I was right.  "Agnostic," basically Obama's voting "present" when he says that he is "agnostic" about raising taxes on the middle class.  It means that he is unwilling to commit to an opinion about something.  So he is an agnostic. He has no opinion on the matter. This is the same as voting "present" on a middle class tax increase, meaning he's gonna leave it up to his commission and other advisors and the Democrats in Congress.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here's Obama himself.  Here's this quote from February 24th last year.  February 24th, 2009, this is to his first joint appearance before Congress.

OBAMA:  Let me be absolutely clear, because I knooow you'll end up hearing some of the same claims that rolling back these tax breaks means a massive tax increase on the American people.  If your family earns less than $250,000 a year -- a quarter million dollars a year -- you will not see your taxes increased a single dime.

CONGRESS: (applause)

OBAMA: I repeat:  Not one single dime.

RUSH:  One year ago!

OBAMA:  In fact...

CONGRESS: (applause)

OBAMA: Not a dime!

RUSH:  All right, all right, all right, all right.  February 24th, 2009, President Obama, joint session of Congress, "Let me be absolutely clear...  If your family earns less than ... a quarter million dollars a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime." Yesterday he said he's "agnostic" about it, which means he has no opinion anymore about it, which means he's open to it, which means everybody that voted for this guy on that basis has now just been screwed and lied to. Although we tried to tell all of you people in this category that you were going to pay the lion's share of any tax increase because there are more of you than any other category.  There are more people in the middle class -- it's still true, even though Obama is doing his best to wipe 'em out. There are still more people in the middle class than there are rich, more people in the middle class than there are poor. So say hello to your Obama tax increase that you were assured one year ago would not happen.  David "Rodham" Gergen says that Obama is in crisis.

GERGEN:  We are seeing the president descend, almost slow-motion, into a crisis.  He's been pounded over the last 24 hours, uh, from left and right.  The labor leaders jumped on him today for inaction on the labor agenda.  We learned today that in his meeting yesterday with congressional leaders and talking about a jobs bill it was Nancy Pelosi who said, "Mr. President, I don't think this is going to work."  Paul Krugman from the New York Times called President Obama "clueless," and of course there are new polls out, the latest ABC/Washington Post which show this arc downward.  If you look at the averages of the polls in recent days his disapproval rating had almost passed his approval rating for the first time. So, uh, these are dangerous times for this president.

RUSH:  Wolf Blitzer still has not reported, by the way, the falling approval ratings of the president.  We've been keeping a sharp eye.  "Obama in crisis."  If David Gergen thinks it, everybody in Washington does. Guaranteed.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: A friend reminds me in an e-mail flash about Obama and "agnostic."  He's saying he's "agnostic" because he pretended to be against taxing health benefits during the campaign.  He went after McCain because McCain was in favor of it, as part of an overhaul that would have reduced costs (according to McCain), and so here comes Obama railing against that.  Now, here's the thing: Obama knows if he comes out now and says he is for a middle class tax increase or taxing health care benefits, he's gonna get creamed for flip-flopping.  So now he's gotta say he's got an open mind. He's voting "present." He has an open mind.  If the Democrats suggest it, he's gotta take a look at it.  So he's not for it; he's not against it.  He's going to wait and see what happens.  But remember: All along, folks -- all along -- he was going to raise taxes.  It's part and parcel of the redistribution of wealth that he assured Joe the Plumber he was going to do.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: To the phones, Karen in Las Vegas. It's great to have you on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hello.  I had to laugh because "agnostic" -- you keep talking about agnostic -- is Greek. It's a Greek word. It means "to not know."  But if you translate agnostic into Latin, it's "ignoramus." So he's saying (doing Obama impression), "I'm an ignoramus on taxes."

RUSH:  (laughing)

CALLER: (laughing) Thought I'd share that with you.  No kidding!  Look it up.  I mean, I laughed my butt off when I heard him talking about being "agnostic" on taxes.  Oh, he's an ignoramus all right.

RUSH:  Hey, I'll tell you what.  Let me tell you something.  This guy is so arrogant, he's afraid. He doesn't want to be accused of flip-flopping.  That's why he's not coming out for these tax increases.

CALLER:  Right.

RUSH:  He thinks if he says, "I'm agnostic" -- or "I'm an ignoramus on it," or "I can go either way; it depends on what I'm advised to do" -- he can escape the flip-flopper aspect.  But I've read a lot of things in the show prep the last couple days, and there are more and more people -- Joe Klein at TIME Magazine, any number of liberal commentators -- who have now started insulting the American people as too stupid to understand what's going on. Some are saying there's too much democracy now with the tea parties (actually they call them the "tea baggers"). There's too much democracy.  Now, there wasn't too much democracy when Obama was running his campaign, but there's too much democracy now.  You know, back in the mid-nineties when this program was about all there was (other talk shows were just getting started; Fox News was on the horizon), TIME Magazine asked: "Is There Too Much Democracy?"  That's what the left always does, and they're always insulting you.

You're too dense to understand how brilliant a president you have.  You're too dense to involve yourself in supporting your government.  It is hilarious to read, and I guarantee you that Obama and his people are among the elites who think that you are stupid.  Why wouldn't they?  They fooled enough people to get elected! They're sitting back there behind closed doors.  They know exactly who they are.  They know exactly what their plans are. They know they went out and lied through their teeth and created this false image during the campaign.  Why wouldn't they think voters are stupid?  There's no question they do.  So now they're relying on your stupidity to forget that Obama ever said, "If you make less than 250 you'll not see one dime of tax increase."  He's already flip-flopped by saying he's an ignoramus about it, that he's "agnostic."  He's already flip-flopped, and this isn't going to help matters.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Here's Bob in Newport Beach, California. Welcome to the EIB Network, sir.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hello, Rush.  It's a pleasure to speak with you, finally.

RUSH:  Thank you, sir.

CALLER (garbled cell): Hey, regarding this comment by Obama some time ago where he thinks that families making less than $250,000 are not -- they're not going to suffer not one [dime] of tax increase, that statement, there's a lot of people that take refuge in that statement, however that statement is very muddy and I have to really believe that that's an intentional muddiness.  Because the word "make" or "makes" or "making" doesn't exist in tax code as a legal definition.  So if you think about your 1040, the first page is income. The top portion is gross income, then there's adjustments to the income, then you have something called the (garbled). I think that's on line 22.  The second page is a carryover of AGI, and then they apply itemized deductions to that to reduce your AGI to come to something that's called "taxable income."  Well, there's no limitations to how they can apply any new taxes.  So people making 250,000 or less, taxes could be formed, they could assess it against gross, they could assess it against AGI, they could assess it against taxable. There's no limitations.  So I'm highly suspicious about, even, Obama's statement. (cell static)

RUSH:  Well, you know what?  Your assessment here is a little bit more complicated than what we have to do to synchronize my voice with the video output on the HD Dittocam.

CALLER: (laughing)

RUSH: What it boils down to is: He's going to raise taxes on everybody.

CALLER:  Sure.

RUSH:  And when he runs around and says, "If you make $250,000 a year," people are thinking gross there.

CALLER:  Yeah. People are thinking gross, but they could be... No, people are thinking taxable income.  The mistake is that he could assess it -- without wording, he could assess it -- to AGI.

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  There's a huge difference between AGI and taxable.

RUSH:  Yeah.

CALLER:  Sometimes as much as 50%.

RUSH:  But the bottom line is, the bottom line is he's now "agnostic" about it. The bottom line is he's now, "Oh, I don't know." After promising this wouldn't happen, he's now saying, "Weeeeell, I don't know. I'm going agnostic. I don't know. I'm open to ideas.  I don't really have an opinion on this.  I gotta wait and see what my advisors say."  He's doing everything he can to avoid a flip-flop on this when, in fact, everybody's going to figure out that this is already a flip-flop.  He made too big a deal about this.  In fact, at his first joint speech before Congress in February of last year he made a huge deal out of it and he received a lot of sustained applause from Democrats in the chamber about all of this.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Ted in Bristol, Pennsylvania. I'm glad that you called, sir, and welcome to the EIB Network.

CALLER:  Thank you, Rush.  First-time caller.  Do you think Obama finally realized that he should soften his rhetoric on the big bonuses to anybody because that's where he intends to get his tax money from in the next couple years?  If he clamps down on --

RUSH:  No.  No.

CALLER:  But he put a minimum on the bonuses --

RUSH:  No.

CALLER:  -- so he could get more taxes.

RUSH:  If he's softening his rhetoric on those guys it's because they threatened to donate all their money to Republicans, not Democrats.

CALLER: (chuckling)

RUSH: Look, I've got four stories here in the stack of how the White House is in a CYA lickety-split, trying to cover their bases on that. "Oh, Obama didn't mean that. Obama's got a consistent record of saying what he said," from the Huffington Post and a number of other people, because Obama really stepped in it.  I mean, you had Paul Krugman yesterday saying, "We are doomed," telling Obama this is foolish.  Because Obama's supporters want Wall Street people in jail.  Obama's supporters want 'em frog-marched out of their offices.  Obama supporters hate anything corporate.  They hate anything profit.  They hate bonuses, and Obama has said to them enough times that bonuses are "obscene." He had the "pay czar." He was gonna make sure that these bonuses weren't paid, then all of a sudden these two guys -- Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase and Lloyd Blankfein at Goldman Sachs -- they're golden. They're golden! Obama went out and talked about, "I love the free market, and I'm not against people getting rich and acquiring wealth. That's the way it works," and his left-wing charges have gone bat manure.

They just can't believe it.  Now, one of the reasons... MIT professor went bat manure yesterday because, he said, "Doesn't Obama realize that these are not free market banks?  These are banks that were bailed out and saved by the government.  They are wards the state.  These are banks too big to fail," which makes these guys even madder, because he doesn't think these guys -- who would have been out on their tushes if left alone -- should be paid big, big bonuses off of government money! Oh, the left is livid about this and they're trying to cover Obama's rear end. This is why they don't let him go out there without a teleprompter.  But I don't even know that he meant to say what he said. But if he did mean it, it was because he's scared that he believes these guys when they say that they're trying to start contributing to Republicans now and no longer to Democrats.  At this point, analyzing why Obama does things is to get distracted.  I don't care why. I don't care what his motivations are. It just has to be stopped.  Whatever Obama is doing has got to be stopped.

Right now.

Dead. In. Its. Tracks.

Biden Lies on "Inherited" Economy
They didn't inherit this economy. Liberals created it.
February 11, 2010

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, listen to this.  Joe Biden was on Larry King Alive last night.  And Larry King, following right along with the questions they gave him, said (impression), "Are you optimistic about the jobs bill?"

BIDEN:  By the spring I think people are gonna begin to have more confidence in the policies we've -- we've put in place.  I think you're going to see net creation of jobs every month.  Now, it's not going to be seven million jobs in the next six months.  It's a depression for millions of Americans.  But we took this job knowin' we were facing a gigantic hole we were going to fall into.

KING:  Inherited it.

BIDEN:  We inherited it.

RUSH:  Yeah, "We inherited it."  You know, why don't they do something: Take the New Madrid Fault where I live -- and Obama, that's a New Madrid, Missouri, a short little stop at Cape Girardeau. There's an earthquake fault there.  Been predicting the big one there just like the San Andreas for a long time.  I think what Obama could do is maybe Obama and Biden have a joint, big, wallapaloozing ceremony in honor of President Bush and name the New Madrid Fault after him so it becomes "Bush's Fault." Because this seems to be the only thing these people have to say.  Now, what Biden's talking about here, "The United States..." This is State-Controlled AP. "The United States is likely to average 95,000 more jobs each month this year, while personal savings will remain high as credit remains tight, according to a White House report released [today].

"The Council of Economic Advisers also trumpeted the $787 billion economic stimulus package, which it said has saved or created about 2 million jobs. In a message to Congress, President Barack Obama pointed out that the economy he inherited was losing 700,000 jobs each month but now says 95,000 jobs will be produced net every month starting this spring."  Now, by this time I have a simple question.  Who cares what Obama or his people say about the economy and what they predict in the future?  They have been grossly wrong time and time again!  Who cares what they predict?  Here's the truth: The American left, the liberals, keep attacking the regulatory system that was in place before Obama was elected; when in fact it is mostly their regulatory system.  They complain about inheriting deficits when in fact they pushed for even bigger deficits when Bush was president, including Senator Obama.

Senator Obama vote for every spending bill that came down the pike!  He cannot distance himself from all of this.  In fact, he and the Democrats were asking Bush to spend more.  Look, it's the Democrats and their buddies that ran Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and we just did a Morning Update today on the sorry shape they're in.  They are so in debt. They've been bailed out. There's no hope that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are ever going to get whole.  The people that run Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, received tens of millions of dollars in bonuses -- and, meanwhile, Obama is out there complaining about everybody else getting bonuses.  So what exactly...? I need to ask, what exactly did the Republicans do to reduce regulations?  Honestly.  What specifically did they do to eliminated some key regulation that would have prevented the housing collapse?

Specifics, please! They can sit around here and they can blame Bush and blame the Republicans all they want, but I want to know what the Republicans did.  Because the truth of the matter is: They did it.  The Community Reinvestment Act was hatched by Carter, it was expanded by Bill Clinton, it was used by ACORN and their allies to wreck the housing market by wrecking the mortgage market by demanding that mortgages be given to people who could no way pay 'em back. Ergo, the subprime mortgage crisis.  It was called "affordable housing," and it was designed to wreck the whole system.  AIG and the rest? I mean, I don't defend AIG, but they were trading loans (derivatives, if you will) that were based fundamentally on loans created by liberal policies.  I'm really getting fed up with this notion that everything they inherited was Bush's fault.

They have doubled down on whatever was wrong!  I want them to name whatever these regulations are the Republicans did that created this mess. Because my memory is that George Bush, a number of times, tried to stop some of this stuff going on with the subprime crisis. His poor regulator got up there and got beat up by Barney Frank and whoever, Chris Dodd, and the regulators just lost their teeth and kind of slinked away.  I mean, the problem here, folks -- as it's always been, and I'm sure those of you who own and operate small businesses will agree with me -- is there are too many regulations. There are too many laws. You can't keep up with them, now.  There's too much government interference.  So here we have the left, Obama and his buddies with Biden out there on Larry King last night creating yet another lie that persists for decades: That deregulation caused this recession.

It was liberalism! It was socialism! It was big government and their liberal groups that caused all this.  Deregulation?  There wasn't any deregulation! That's their favorite ploy, though: "If you let the capitalist, free market system go wild, everything falls apart and only a precious few end up doing well and everybody else gets creamed because the precious few doing well are stealing from everybody else."  It's absurd, it's nonsense, but this is their constant refrain.  "Reregulation," "reform" is always growing government, more regulations, more obstacles, more putting people behind an eight ball with more obstacles in their way so they can't possibly overcome them to be successful.  We have inherited... If you want to talk about inheritance, we have inherited what Obama and his party and his friends have created, and even if we win these elections in November it is going to two or three... I don't know long. It's going to take a generation to fix all it is, the damage they have done in -- well, not just one year, because the Democrats took over the House in 2007.

You can track -- you can track -- when unemployment started track up. You can track when the GDP started to go down. You can track any number of things to the Democrats acquiring more and more power and finally President Obama in November of 2008. Take a look unemployment then. Take a look at unemployment in November 2008 and forward and you'll find that people in charge of knowing how to run a business, "Uh-oh. We in heap big doo-doo." So we have inherited, folks, what Obama and his party and his friends have created.  Joe Biden.... Joe Biden was in the Senate for over 30 years. He was a big spending, free spending liberal.  You will find no record at all of Biden demanding the government stop pushing banks make loans to people who couldn't afford them. Biden dares go on Larry King last night and say he inherited all this?  He helped create it!

And any other Democrat in office for ten years, 20 years, 30 years, joins Biden as an architect of this disaster.  Meanwhile, in case you don't know it, Obama still has not killed the Community Reinvestment Act.  Obama still supports it.  Obama still supports the very thing that caused the subprime mortgage crisis in the first place.  ACORN still supports it.  Barney Frank and Chris Dodd, both of whom should be sharing a cell with Bernie Madoff, still support it.  So let me challenge.  They're not going to come on this program and debate me. I know they're not going to do that on health care.  Let me challenge them again: Obama and the Democrats, eliminate the Community Reinvestment Act and all laws that compel banks to make loans to poor people who can't afford 'em.  Let's get rid of some of these regulations, requirements that have led to this snafu and this big problem.  But they're not going to do that because they want the snafu, they want the big problem, they want radical redistribution of wealth. They have targeted the US private sector, and they continue to do so each and every day, and now Obama's gone "agnostic" on middle-class tax cut.

(paraphrased) "Well, you can't say I'm for 'em now because they'll kill me for flip-flopping so I gotta act like I'm open to anything at this point," which is what he's doing, and he hopes to get away with that because of your perception of his superior intelligence.  Corpse-man, 57 states, and then any time the guy speaks without a teleprompter, it's a roll of the dice.  Job growth?  This business of 95,000 jobs every month, net, starting this spring.  Do you know why job growth is not lowering unemployment?  There are a whole lot of people unemployed, not looking for jobs anymore. They're totally dispirited.  A reduction in jobless claims doesn't mean these people are getting new jobs.  It means they've dropped out of the system altogether.  That's why you gotta look at the U6 unemployment figure, which puts it up 17, 18%. Not this 9.7%.  So now they're on welfare, food stamps, what have you -- and, of course, I have a stack here with two different stories on how the food stamp stigma is gone. The welfare stigma is gone. It's just absolutely wonderful that all these programs exist for people who are unemployed.  This is the purpose. They want all of us on food stamps. I'm not exaggerating.  They want all of us depending primarily on government for whatever it is we have.  That's who these people are.  Make no mistake about it.

Congratulations to Mr. Shahid Khan
The St. Louis Rams might have found a new owner.
February 11, 2010

RUSH: I want to congratulate Mr. Shahid Khan, who is 55 years old.  He is the president of Flex-N-Gate Corp., an auto parts manufacturer based in Urbana, Illinois.  He has lived in the United States 40-some-odd years. He is Pakistani descent, and he is the person who has been selected by the Rosenbloom family to purchase the St. Louis Rams.

I didn't get the Dubai Ports Deal, but we do have Rashid Khan. Now, he's gotta pass muster with the NFL owners. He's gotta go through the vote process there, but the Rams principals (Chip Rosenbloom and his sister Lucia Rodriguez) have sold the team to Rashid Khan of Urbana, Illinois.  Congratulations to him.  He says he's a big Rams fan.  He goes to the Edward Jones Dome constantly and appears to want to be a pretty hands-on owner, from what we've been able to figure out.

State-Run Media Rakes Your Host Over the Coals on Global Warming
The massive snowfall has them spinning like crazy.
February 11, 2010

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  This is Nancy in Wayne, Ohio.  You're on the EIB Network.  Hello.

CALLER:  Hi, Rush.  Just a quick note.  Algore is correct about global warming. He's only off by six planets.  According to photos from the Hubble, Pluto is warming up.

RUSH:  Yeah, that's because of the blizzards here in Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York.  According to noted global warming scientists here in America and at the IPCC.  These massive snowstorms are not only causing global warming and are an indication of it here, but they're having a dramatic impact on the surface temperatures of what was a planet (no longer is) Pluto. It's getting bright red out there.  I mean, we humans, if you think we're destroying just the earth (chuckles) you are wrong.  We are destroying our solar system.  It's all because of you.  Your SUVs, your smokestacks, and all the rest of this gunk and garbage that you're putting into the atmosphere.  You think it just stays here? (snorts) You seen Mars lately?  You seen the storms on Jupiter?  They found another eye up there! Saturn?  Folks.  Let's go to the audiotape.  Dylan Ratigan yesterday afternoon, MSNBC.

RATIGAN:  Rush Limbaugh taking me on by name today, even though I actually don't subscribe to either of the theories liberal or conservative.  I was simply reporting a scientific fact: That some scientists say that higher air temperatures, when the air mass is warmer, it can retain more moisture and as a result these scientists believe that the warmer air mass -- which retains more moisture -- may subsequently offer more precipitation, something that would fall from the sky.  These exact types of storms may reflect that.  I honestly have no idea.  I was simply reporting that that is part of the science.  So to argue that the snow is evidence that there's not global warming borders on moronic.

RUSH:  Well, not quite, Dylan. At least I'm glad you admit that you have no idea, but when you say you're only reporting what's part of the science, that's not true. There's no settled science on this.  Are you people not aware of the hoax this has all become at East Anglia University, at the IPCC with the Himalayan glaciers?  I'm going to tell you something, Dylan.  What's happening with these snowstorms is exactly, according to my climate scientists -- I've got some, too, and it's settled as far as I'm concerned, Dylan. If these things continue, this is exactly what we're going to get with global cooling.  Which, uh, (snorts) shows you where we are.  This equals global warming.  Here is Morton Kondracke on Fox yesterday afternoon...

KONDRACKE:  This has become theological.  You know, those people who believe in global warming believe it as though it was a statement from God and vice-versa.  Rush Limbaugh is convinced that it's human arrogance that even conceives that mankind could be creating global warming.

RUSH:  He's right about that, but the other side does not believe it's a statement from God. They don't believe there is God!  Global warming, liberalism, is their religion. Not progressivism.  You, folks, I'm getting -- I'm getting pounded here by a couple people on this.  Don't be fooled by this.  This term "progressive," I know the history of it.  It's nothing more than a mask, George Lakoff (rhymes with), the liberals come up with all kinds of lingo designed to disguise who they really are.  They know the terms that hurt them.  Progressive doesn't hurt them with the average, ordinary American.  You can out and do a poll: "Okay are you progressive, conservative, or liberal?"  Progressive will end up higher than liberal.  Because they think that sounds good. "Yeah, I'm progressive. I'm forward thinking. I'm an imaginative guy."  Howard Fineman, MSNBC Countdown with Whoever.  Question: "Is life on earth going to be threatened because the people who recognized and warned about climate change didn't just go with that phrase, 'climate change,' instead chose 'global warming,' opening the opportunity for Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin to kill us all?"

FINEMAN:  Well, I do think that, uh, labels matter, and in retrospect simply focusing on warming was a mistake. Uh, just in terms of the politics and the salesmanship of what is undoubtedly a really, really big problem.  But it's also now gotten all wrapped up in Obama and Gore and the whole big government idea.

RUSH:  Let me ask: Howard, how in the world is something SCIENCE political?  The very fact this is political ought to tell every one of you it's not science.  Gee whiz! Yeah, they goofed up. They called it "global warming."  I don't know how I'm going to kill us all, but "the politics and the salesmanship of what is undoubtedly a really, really big problem"? It's a hoax!

Biden Claims Credit for Iraq Victory
This is beyond just chutzpah.
It's a pathological lie.

February 11, 2010

YouTube:  Biden:  Shove It Down His Throat

YouTube:  Part one of Joe Biden on Meet the Press 9-9-2007

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This whole administration some days is a Scott Ott satire, a Saturday Night Live script.  Larry King Live again last night, Joe Biden said this about Iraq...

BIDEN:  I'm very optimistic about -- about Iraq, and this can be one of the great achievements of this administration.  You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the, uh, end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

RUSH:  Do you know how hard it is to really not blow a gasket when you hear something like this?  In the first place, it was Joe Lieberman that wanted to cut that country in three. It was Joe Lieberman and Barack Obama who opposed the surge, who proclaimed defeat in front of General Petraeus.  They opposed everything that led to whatever they think now is stable in Iraq.  Obama and Biden wanted to leave in defeat!  Harry Reid: "This war is lost."  These people threw the US military under the bus!  These people were doing everything they can to secure a defeat for the United States military and he has the chutzpah to go on Larry King Live and say, "This could be one of the great achievements of this administration."  Now, I know that there is rabid hatred for anything Bush in the far left of this country, and I just wonder if they even fall for this.  One of the great achievements of this administration? They don't have an achievement, folks.  Not as you and I would measure achievements.  The Obama administration doesn't have one thing they have done positively for this country.  I was all set to say that I think may Obama is dumber than Biden, until I heard that.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  We're going to have some audio coming up very soon, ladies and gentlemen. It's Joe Biden saying he was going to ram Iraq down Bush's throat, and another one of Biden saying, "Petraeus is dead wrong." We could probably do a half hour of Biden quotes on what was wrong with the Iraq policy that they inherited, that they now claim was "one of the great achievements" of the Obama administration: Iraq.  See, I hear something like this, and I ask myself: "Who...? Who has been paying attention the last three years, can possibly believe that or fall for it?"  I'm serious.  Who could possibly buy that?

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Audio sound bite number 12 and we've dug up a couple others from our archive.  Mike, number 22, 23 today.  Here is Biden last night on Larry King Alive talking about Iraq.

BIDEN:  I'm very optimistic about -- about Iraq, and this can be one of the great achievements of this administration.  You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the, uh, end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

RUSH: Everything he mentions he inherited.  Every last word of that is the result of the Bush-Cheney administration -- "the troops coming home," "the stable Iraq government" -- and yet this "could be one of the great achievements of this administration"?  Why do we believe anything these people say ever?  Why do we even grant them the notion that they are sane?  This is worse than chutzpah, folks.  This is insulting everybody's intelligence.  From December 26th, 2006, an Associated Press story: "Biden Vows to Fight Any Iraq Troop Boost."  This was prior to the surge.  Anne Flaherty, AP writer: "Sen. Joseph Biden, the incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he will fight President Bush if the administration decides to send more U.S. troops to Iraq.  Biden, who has his eye on the Democratic presidential nomination, also warned that if congressional Republicans do not join him in speaking out against Bush that they -- not Democrats -- will suffer in the 2008 elections. 'I just think it's the absolute wrong strategy,' Biden said Tuesday of an increase in troops," that very increase now he's claiming is one of the great achievements of this administration.  Biden said -- you'll remember this when I tell you. He came out of the meeting, he was talking to the press, and he said he delivered this message in a recent meeting.  He told Mr. Bush, "Mr. President, this is your war." This is your war! Let's move forward from 2006 to 2007.  April 27th, Columbia, South Carolina, at Jim Clyburn's annual fish fry, Senator Biden mingling with audience members and an unidentified audience member says, "When the president kills that bill on the first, what's going to be the next version of that bill that you are going to send him?"

BIDEN:  The first thing I'm going to do is vetos that bill and I'm going to take out that money for those MRAPs, those -- those vehicles to save lives over there.  The idea we're not -- I gotta kid going over there -- the idea that we're not building new Humvees with the V-shaped thing is just crap, man! Kids are dying that don't have to die.  The second thing we're going to do is shove it down his throat.

RUSH:  The second thing we're going to do is shove it down his throat.  Joe Biden, April 27th, 2007.  Go back to sound bite number 12 once again where Biden said this last night on Larry King Alive.

BIDEN:  I'm very optimistic about -- about Iraq, and this can be one of the great achievements of this administration.  You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the, uh, end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

RUSH: Everything he's taking credit for he inherited.  He opposed everything that led to that which he now takes credit for and he actively fought it and said he was going to "ram it down Bush's throat."  On Meet the Press September 9th, 2007, Tim Russert said, "General Petraeus said in a letter to his troops, 'My sense is that we have achieved tactical momentum, have wrested the initiative from our enemies in a number of years in Iraq. We are, in short, a long way from the goal line but we do have the ball and we're driving down the field.' Is that what you expect him to say tomorrow?"

BIDEN:  He's dead, flat wrong.  The fact of the matter is that there is -- that this -- uh -- this idea of the security gains we made have had no impact on the underlying sectarian dynamic. None. None whatsoever.  Can anybody envision a central government made up of Sunni, Shi'a, and Kurds that's going to gain the trust and respect of 27 million Iraqis?  There have been some tactical gains, but they have no ultimate bearing at this point on the prospect of there being a political settlement in Iraq that would allow American troops to come home without leaving chaos behind.

RUSH:  Folks, this is serious stuff, because that's exactly what happened.  It is exactly what happened, and yet Biden... I want to play these two sound bites again.  I don't want you to forget this.  Because that sound bite you just heard is exactly what happened.  Biden said there was no way it would happen.  So here he is last night again on Larry King Alive (maybe), claiming that Iraq... You anti-war people on the left, are you hearing this?  Your guys are now claiming credit for "a great achievement" in their administration, the Iraq war?  Here's what Biden said.

BIDEN:  I'm very optimistic about -- about Iraq, and this can be one of the great achievements of this administration.  You're going to see 90,000 American troops come marching home by the, uh, end of the summer. You're going to see a stable government in Iraq that is actually moving toward a representative government.

RUSH: I mean, this is the guy who wanted to cut the country in three! Okay, so it's a great achievement, a great achievement this administration: Iraq, 90,000 coming home, a stable government.  Meet the Press September 9, 2007.

RUSH: It's exactly what happened!  It is precisely what happened.  He "inherited" all of this that he says constitutes a great achievement for his stupid administration, every damn bit of the policy from George W. Bush and Cheney.  These are the guys that said Petraeus is a liar.  These are the guys who supported that New York Times ad saying the surge would never work.  Harry Reid: "This war is lost."  You military people, I hope you're hearing this because these are the people in your country running your show.  These are the most dishonest, the most diabolical people that have led this country in my lifetime.  They are sick, mentally unstable.  I don't know who their friends are anymore.  We are talking about this at the top of the hour.  The gays in the military, they're not happy with them anymore. The Hispanics are kind of docile: "Where's the immigration bill?"

Al Sharpton, by the way, might have been... (interruption) Hi.  My picture is being taken.  Let me pose for the picture here, again.  I will not lose my train of thought.  Okay.  You know, I always say that Obama is the least experienced, least qualified guy whenever he walks into a room.  Yesterday was an exception: Al Sharpton walked into the Oval Office, along with Ben Jealous of the NAALCP.  I think, in that case, it's a close call, but Obama might have been a little bit more experienced and qualified depending on what was discussed. But these guys are upset because there haven't been any jobs in the black community. I mean, who in his coalition is happy? The unions are ticked off, Wall Street's ticked off.  Every member of his coalition is mad at him or ambivalent right now.  But you anti-war people! The anti-war, "Bush is evil" is what propelled this guy to the White House, and now your guy and Biden are claiming credit for a brilliant achievement in Iraq!

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  Yes.  Back we are. Rush Limbaugh, again having regained my composure from once again being exposed to a genuine fool: Joe Biden. He's a genuine embarrassment.  On the same show -- after these outrageous, foolish comments about the great Iraq achievement of the Obama administration -- Larry King says (impression): "Sarah Palin. What do you say?"

BIDEN:  Well, you know, it's -- it's s-sort of like, uh, some -- some of the comments made are just so far sorta out there.  I -- I -- I just don't know where they come from.

RUSH:  You don't understand common sense, then.  "[S]ome of the comments are so far out there."  You mean like you claiming credit as a great achievement, your Iraq policy?  Or how about this.  September 9th, 2008, Columbia, Missouri.

BIDEN:  Uh, uh, Chuck Graham, state senator, is here.  Stand up, Chuck.  Let 'em see you. (rimshot) Oh, God love you.  What am I talking about? (rimshot)  I tell you what, you're making everybody else stand up, though, pal. (rimshot)  I tell you what, stand up for Chuck! (rimshot)

RUSH:  That was a Democrat Missouri state Senator Chuck Graham who is in a wheelchair, and Biden said, "Stand up, Chuck! Oh, my God, what am I..? Oh, God. Everybody stand up. Stand up for Chuck!"  Chuck said (paraphrased), "What the hell is happening here?  Why is everybody standing up for me?  Why is everybody highlighting the fact I can't stand up?"  Brought to you by Joe Biden.

BREAK TRANSCIRPT

RUSH:  I'm not going to let go of this O'Biden comment last night, ladies and gentlemen, on Larry King: "Iraq could be one of the great achievements of this administration."  It's pure hypocrisy.  I wonder, too, if this is going to be something that gets Biden into trouble, because Biden's out there saying (paraphrased): "Hey, hey, look at what we've done! We've had victory in Iraq, victory in Iraq," and that's not something the left wants to hear.

By the way, at the White House press briefing, this idiot press secretary, Robert Gibbs, just said the administration doesn't believe Iran is a nuclear state.  Gibbs said, "We don't believe that Iran has the capabilities to enrich uranium to 20%," and yet this is the same administration that didn't even know that Iran had a second nuclear power plant in addition to the one they had admitted to. So this is all very reassuring.  But back to Joe Biden and the true history of Biden and Obama and the Democrats on the war in Iraq.  April 2007.

BIDEN:  Last night, like millions of my fellow Americans, I listened intently to the president of the United States lay out his new strategy for Iraq.  We all hoped and prayed that the president would present us with a plan that would make things better.  Instead, I fear, that what the president has proposed is more likely to make things worse.

RUSH: He's talking about the surge, which made things better, that now Biden credits for and claims as having been a great achievement of his administration.  March 14th, 2007.

BIDEN: (screaming) What happens after we surge these women and men?  And, by the way, he said president -- General Petraeus is -- is one who believes -- He may be the only one who believes this is a good idea!  Virtually, no one else think it's a good idea!

RUSH:  Barack Obama January 10th, 2007: The surge will not work.

OBAMA:  I am not persuaded that, uh, 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is gonna, uh, solve the sectarian violence there.  In fact I think it will do the reverse.  I think it takes pressure off the Iraqis to arrive at the sort of political accommodation that every observer believes is the ultimate solution, uh, to the problems we face there.

RUSH:  There you go.  Obama: Surge won't work, January 10th, 2007.  Biden again, March 2007.

BIDEN: (screaming)  This is a cycle of self-sustaining sectarian violence that 20,000, 30,000, 50,000, a hundred thousand Americans will not be able to stop!

RUSH:  Joe Biden, claiming credit last night for the surge as being a great achievement of the Obama administration.  Obama again, January 2007, saying there is no "military solution."

OBAMA:  We cannot impose a military solution on what effectively become a civil war.  And until we acknowledge that reality, uh, we can send 15,000 more troops, 20,000 more troops, 30,000 more troops. Uh, I don't know any expert, uh, on the region or any military officer that I've spoken to, uh, privately that believes that that is going to make a substantial difference on the situation on the ground.

RUSH:  Doesn't this sound familiar?  He hasn't talked to an economist who thinks the tax cut would work.  He hasn't talked to an economist who thinks anything that would work would work.  He hasn't talked to anybody! He never talks to anybody who thinks that what will work will work.  He talks to ignoramuses.  He is an ignoramus.  He talks to idiots!  And Biden goes out there and claims credit for all of this as "a great achievement" of the Obama administration.  Here is Obama last year after taking office.  On February 27th, 2009, changing his tune...

OBAMA:  The situation in Iraq has improved.  Violence has been reduced substantially from the horrific sectarian killing of 2006 and 2007.  Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been dealt a serious blow by our troops and Iraq security forces and through our partnership with Sunni Arabs.  The capacity of Iraq's security forces has improved and Iraq's leaders have taken steps towards political accommodation.

RUSH:  No thanks to Barack Obama or Joe Biden.  They opposed every step of what led to success.  You want to hear the man who won the war in Iraq?  We go back to January 10th, 2007.

BUSH:  This is a strong commitment. But for it to succeed, our commanders say the Iraqis will need our help. So America will change our strategy to help the Iraqis carry out their campaign to put down sectarian violence and bring security to the people of Baghdad. This will require increasing American force levels. So I have committed more than 20,000 additional American troops to Iraq. The vast majority of them -- five brigades -- will be deployed to Baghdad.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  It just keeps getting better and better and better.  Somehow a reporter asked this idiot press secretary, Robert Gibbs, this afternoon at the press briefing: "The vice president said last night that Iraq could be 'one of the president's greatest achievements.'  Given that the vice president was in favor of a partial partition of the country and the president opposed the surge that helped stabilize it, how is that one of the president's great achievements?"

GIBBS:  Getting our troops home, which we intend to do in August of this year.

REPORTER:  The agreement to bring the troops home was signed before the president took office.

GIBBS:  We will long debate Iraq.  We will long debate whether at a very important moment in our efforts to root our terrorism -- uh, particularly in Afghanistan on that border region with Pakistan, whether -- we took our eye off the ball, historians will debate that long after we're gone.  The vice president's been deeply involved in fixing the political process there so that elections can be held and our troops can, uhhh, come home as scheduled, uh, this summer.

RUSH:  Biden fixed Iraq?  Folks, you just heard the sound bites.  Biden didn't do anything but try to secure defeat.  This is seriously, psychologically problematic.  This is not just lying and trying to recast history.  This is dangerous to have people like this in positions of power.  I mean, people around the world listen to this stuff and they think, "We're dealing with idiots in the White House."  They gotta be out there laughing themselves silly at the two people running this country.

The Truth About the "Jobs" Bill
There's nothing about jobs in this latest slush fund.
February 11, 2010

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Okay, the "jobs bill."  The Democrats have unveiled their "jobs bill."  "Jobs bill."  Reuters reports this breathlessly.  (panting) "Senate Democrats released a long-awaited jobs bill on Thursday [panting] that relies on business tax breaks [panting] and construction projects to bring down the unemployment rate [panting].  The bill also extends a number of other programs from unemployment insurance to Medicaid payment rates that have either expired or will expire soon."  Just as we foretold, ladies and gentlemen, much of the money (that we don't have) will go to unemployment insurance.  Now, leaving aside the merits of extending unemployment benefits or Medicare payments, what do either of these have to do with creating jobs?  Not a damn thing.  But it sounds better to call it a "jobs bill" rather than "an unemployment compensation extension bill."

And from a breathless Politico spider we get more details on what's in the unveiled Senate "jobs bill" and how it's designed to give the Democrats cover.  The headline's all you need to hear but you'll hear more from me.  "Baucus, Grassley Cut Deal on Jobs -- The Senate Finance Committee on Thursday morning announced a breakthrough on an $85 billion jobs bill that includes a series of small-business tax breaks and other tax provisions designed to draw Republican support," the emphasis there on SMALL. "The joint announcement -- by Chairman Max Baucus of Montana and the panel's top Republican, Chuck Grassley of Iowa  -- is aimed at giving the proposals some bipartisan heft in a Senate chamber mired in partisan gridlock on just about every other major issue. In fact, the release announcing the bill used the word 'bipartisan' seven times in just a few paragraphs." (sigh) What a mistake.

The Democrats need to own all of this.  They don't need to be able to say Republicans participated in this.
"Baucus and Grassley said their package was a 'first step,'" I'm sure, "and urged Senate leadership to allow at least three days for lawmakers to review the bill. The Finance Committee did not attach a price tag to its bill," but Reuters breathless calling it an $85 billion bill. "'It is especially important that all members and the public have sufficient time -- at least 72 hours -- to review and comment on this package before the Senate begins voting on the bill ...' the two senators wrote in a statement." Now, we assume it goes without saying here that it will not be posted on the Internet.  Why should a tax-paying public be allowed to see how their money is being spent?  Dingy "Harry Reid wanted to pass a jobs bill before Congress left for recess Friday. But two punishing blizzards made it difficult to schedule votes this week. The Finance Committee agreement, however, may be the breakthrough [Dingy Harry] needs if he wants a vote after next week's Presidents Day recess."

Now, everything I've said and heard call this bill incredibly urgent. It's incredibly urgent! Why, we gotta do this now. But apparently, folks, it's not urgent enough for the Senate to give up its Presidents Day week long recess -- after having been off all this week.  So it's not urgent enough to get it signed in two weeks, but it's urgent enough to have to get it done.  Now, "The bill includes an infusion of funds into the Highway Trust Fund," this is jobs bill, "the so-called doc fix for Medicare reimbursements" in a jobs bill "and an extension of unemployment insurance and other benefits for" out of work people, in a jobs bill.  I haven't read one thing yet about the creation of jobs.  Oh.  "It also includes several provisions outside the panel's jurisdiction, like a reauthorization of the USA Patriot Act, the national flood insurance program and $1.5 billion in agriculture disaster assistance" in a jobs bill!  It's called a jobs bill.

"Grassley and Baucus also fired a warning shot aimed at partisans on both sides... 'Any efforts to needlessly delay Senate completion of consideration of this package through partisan means will undermine our goal of timely action in the current economic climate,' the senators wrote." Again, this bill is so urgent but they won't give up one of their endless recesses for it.  So you're saying, "What the hell is in there about jobs?  What's in there about jobs?" Here it is.  What's in there about jobs is this.  It "would exempt businesses from paying a 6.2 percent Social Security tax on the wages of new employees, as long as the workers have been unemployed at least 60 days. The tax break would run through the end of the year. A company could save a maximum of $6,621 if it hired an unemployed worker after the bill is enacted and paid that worker at least $106,800 -- the maximum amount of wages subject to Social Security taxes -- by the end of the year.

"The company could get an additional $1,000 on its 2011 tax return if it kept the new worker for at least a full year." I don't have to tell you what this is going to do.  Guys are going to lay off people for two months, hire 'em back, and escape Social Security taxes.  Let's just consider the incentives built into this plan.  It forces businesses to hire people who got laid off earlier in the process -- which, in general, would indicate that they may have been more dispensable to their previous employers.  People that got laid off first are generally the ones that were the least necessary.  So in order to take advantage of the tax break, the business would have to keep them employed all year long (regardless of their performance), for a full-time worker and have to pay them the max, 106 grand, in order to escape $6,000 of taxes?  Who's going to do that?  Nobody's going to do this!

Pay somebody $106,000 in this climate, all for a $6,000 tax break?  Plus somebody's been outta work for longer than two months?  This...  Let me put it directly: This subsidies nothing more than the normal business decisions made by growing companies.  This is not going to incentivize anybody in their right mind to start a hiring spree.  Now, over at Bloomberg.com: "Small Business Has Some News for Big Government." This is Caroline Baum, and let me just summarize the story for you.  The first line here is "'Washington doesn't get it,'" and there are numerous small business people quoted in the story.  (begin summary) Dear Washington:  We need sales, not new employee tax credits.  That's Economics 101.  You hire somebody if that worker generates revenues to cover his salary.  For that you need sales!  We're not interested in tax breaks.  We're interested in the growth of our business.  We are not here to if you feel Obama's promise to put people back to work. That's not why we're in business. (end summary) That's the message from the small businesses. It is absolute -- and that's all that's in there about jobs.  The rest of this is nothing more than another slush fund spending bill, and I gave you all the details.

HD Dittocam Sync Fix in Works
We do everything we can to satisfy our customers.
February 11, 2010

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let me take time-out here from the content portion of the program to address a customer complaint.  We try to take these on head on.  Sometimes they get so voluminous we cannot answer them all in e-mail.  Many of you are writing with mild-mannered and sometimes strongly worded complaints about the lack of sync between voice and video on our new HD Dittocam feed.  There are abundantly clear technological reasons for this.  We are in the midst of a fix.  Now, what we're going to have to do is we're going to have to set up three external mixers to go along with the one built-in internal mixer, ad what will happen is the audio of this program will be directly led from a console in Florida up to the B console in New York where we will set up a mix-minus that does not include the talk-back.

Then what's going to happen, my audio will be mixed with the B mix-minus feed from New York and we're going to run the combination of those two things to the HD Dittocam.  What will happen then is that the audio from me will feed to the camera, the video, with no delay.  Now, there is going to be a price to pay for this.  I mean, not a financial price.  But this will mean that the commercials and the sound bites will be delayed by just the same split second that you see the delay now between what I say and what you see me say it on the Dittocam.  I don't think you're going to notice that because nobody will be actually speaking the recorded commercials, the spots, or the sound bites.  Because it's just my lips that you are looking at.  Now, we're going to have this done by tomorrow's show. (interruption)  I'm dead certain this is gonna work.

We've been looking at every option we can, and this is the fastest, it's the most efficient -- and, frankly, it's the option that makes the most sense. (interruption) Why should I go through it? People aren't going to understand anyway, Snerdley. Why should I go through it again?  I just wanted to explain to them what we're going to have to do here to... (interruption) Okay! We're going to have to set up another mixer. We've got mixer A, mixer B. We gotta go mixer C here in the studio. We're going to feed my audio directly from the console in Florida to the console to the B console in New York, and we're going to set up a mix-minus at that point that does not include the talk-back, which is key.  If you leave the talk-back in the circuitry then everything goes out the window.  If you leave the talk-back in, none of this will work.

So we'd have to exclude the talk-back.  After we've done all that, we are going to mix me -- my audio -- and the mix-minus New York feed from console B, coming from mixer C, and we're going to run that completed circuit to the HD Dittocam -- and there will thus be no delay (or no lack of sync as it appears) between my lips (what I say) and the way people see it on the HD Dittocam.  Believe me, we've looked at a number of different ways including ripping it all out and starting all over.  We looked at suing the manufacturer, everything.  We thought about calling a Democrat tort lawyer but we figured: Why go to all that problem?  So that's the fix and we hope to have that in by tomorrow.  See, we deal with customer service complaints here out in the open, up front, and we give you the explanation of how we're going to deal with it.  You won't find that anywhere else.

Nobody Needs to Rile Up America
Americans are angry and with very good reason.
February 11, 2010

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: We're going to go to Vancouver, Washington.  This is Toni. Welcome, and great to have you here on the program.

CALLER:  Oh, thank you, Rush!  You know, I am just so excited to be able to have my voice heard on your powerful program.

RUSH:  I can imagine.  I can imagine what that's like.

CALLER:  (giggling) Yeah, it is because let me tell you, I think I'm a middle class American.  By today's standards I may be, you know, in a lower class than middle class.  My husband and I this year had a combined income of just over $70,000.  It was down about 20,000 this year.  We live in a two -- our mortgage is 240 on a house that's now worth about 189 on today's market.  And, you know, I'm not a politician, I'm not a college professor, I'm not a tax accountant. So I don't have anything probably real profound to say to you other than to speak my voice for the voice of other millions of people in my position in this country.  I listen to you every day.  I have a delivery route.

RUSH:  Very wise, very, very, very wise, thank you.

CALLER:  It allows me to listen to you.  I go home at night; my husband and I watch Fox News.  So we try to keep ourselves informed.  And I have to tell you, I have never in my adult life -- and I have lived there as many presidents in my adult life as you have because we're the same age and I have never -- been so I can end by one in my life as I am this one.

RUSH:  Join the club.  I mean you're not alone out there, don't ever think you're alone.

CALLER:  Oh, I know I'm not, Rush.  And I thank you for stirring up the dust and getting so much of us mad, because America is pissed off right now.  And he's going to hear our little tiny voices when it comes to election time.  You know, I wish... Wouldn't this have been a great scene: To have a president come into office at a time when this country has been so economically devastated and tighten his belt and maybe not board Air Force One to take his wife to a Broadway play and maybe not gone off to Copenhagen twice for nothing at the expense of taxpayers dollars? Or how about just leaving the White House like it was and not spending our taxpayers dollars to tweak it to how he wants it.  What about saying to America, "You know what? Because of how things are right now, I'm going to tighten my belt and I'm going to do this for you guys because you're having to tighten your belt."  You know?

RUSH:  Well, now, this is interesting.  I'm going to tell you something.

CALLER:  I'm sick of it.

RUSH:  I'm going to tell you something. You credited me with rousing people up.  I didn't really do much.  You're roused up on your own.  I have never suggested that Obama cut back his lifestyle to show other people that he feels their pain.  I have never mentioned that.  You came up with that all on your own.  I have laughed about the fact he flies off to Copenhagen and has it slapped down his throat that they're not going to get the Olympics, and I've laughed about him getting the Nobel Peace Prize (that it now rightfully should have won in 2007, not Gore and not the IPCC), and I've laughed about him taking his wife out to dinner in New York and so forth.  But I've not suggested that he do anything in terms of his own austerity.  I have laughed at him serving Kobe beef.  You came up with that all on your own.  My point in telling you this is that millions of people are doing the very same thing with your.  They don't need to be riled up; they already are.  They don't need to be agitated; they already are.

The service I provide is validating what you think and giving you information before you know that it comes down the pike.  I'm flattered by your compliment, but don't sell yourself short on this.  You and multiple millions of others have had it, for whatever reason.  If it bugs you that he's not being austere in his own life while everybody else has to tighten their belts, fine and dandy.  What bugs me more is this guy is single-handedly, along with his Democrat buddies up on Capitol Hill, making it worse on purpose!  That's what frosts me: Making it worse on purpose while living the high life himself.  The guy has no compassion.  He has no emotional connection to people. You know, basically, Axelrod and these guys are salesmen.  That's what Axelrod's been his whole life. He's been a salesman, political salesman.  These guys have no experience in the real world governing, and we're seeing it now.  They're trying to do what they did in the campaign: Trying to sell things. They're trying to continually sell things.  They're not accomplishing anything.  They're destroying.  It really is a devastating thing to sit here and watch, frustrating as well.  And people are P'd off, as you said.

They're Liberals, Not Progressives
Liberals want to disguise themselves.
Don't let them.

RUSH: John in Indianapolis. Have you guys gotten over it yet, by the way?  This is Thursday.

CALLER:  Excuse me?

RUSH:  Have you gotten over the Super Bowl yet?

CALLER:  Um, no.

RUSH:  I didn't think so.

CALLER:  Absolutely not.

RUSH:  That's gotta be tough.

CALLER:  It was very, very painful.  It ruined my Sunday, and on top of that it ruined my weekend.  But regardless, I just got connected to a true, true patriot and God love you.

RUSH:  Thank you very much, sir.

CALLER:  Thank you.  My question to you is why don't you use the term "progressive" instead of liberal?  I mean, if you research how many times Obama has used the term -- and the last two weeks you have Hillary Clinton saying she's on board with being a progressive -- and as of late within the last, hmm, maybe 36, 24 hours, you have McCain's daughter saying she's a "progressive Republican," (snorts). I mean, come on. I mean what's your understanding of the history of the progressive movement and does it scare you?

RUSH:  They're a bunch of liberals and communists and they do scare me, and the reason I don't call them progressives is because the word "liberal" creams 'em.  You poll liberal versus conservative. Look at voter identification.  Forty percent of the American people call themselves conservative.  Twenty percent of the American people call themselves liberals.  Progressive is their way of disguising who they are.  Progressive and liberal... What is progressive mean?  Forward, advanced, looking forward. "We're smarter than you. We're more advanced. We're ahead of the game." They're not progressives.  These people are the furthest thing from progressives.  I'm not going to let them get away with redefine their own terms.  That's all they're trying to do.  They're not progressives.  They've gone anywhere from progressives... They never use the word liberal to describe themselves. Never, ever.  Because it's death.  It's death at the ballot box.  That's why I'm mystified the Republican Party doesn't use it more often.  McCain finally got around to doing so late in the campaign.  But don't quote Meghan McCain.  I mean, "progressive Republican"?  It's not fair to Meghan McCain.  (sigh) I mean, what is the...? She's just an airhead.  I don't know what else to say.  She's class... They want to call themselves progressives, then they're engaged in tomfoolery and trickery, and I'm just not going to let 'em get away with it.  They are liberals, Marxists, socialists, and communists.

How to Really Fix Social Security
President Bush had a good plan, but couldn't sell it.
February 11, 2010

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Muskegon, Michigan. Bruce thank you, sir, for your patience and hello.

CALLER:  Thank you, Rush, for taking my call.  Last night I was listening to the news and then I heard that the Social Security is now insolvent -- which is about seven, eight years sooner than what they had previously been predicting, I guess, based on our economic situation.  You know, we all know the way that government's running Social Security is bigger an any Ponzi scheme that Madoff could have ever dreamed up and my question to you is: How do we get the Congress to produce legislation that will -- as painful as it might be -- put Social Security back on the road to -- to being solvent?

RUSH:  Well, you remember that George W. Bush tried it.  George Bush, immediately after his reelection in 2004, said he was going to use some of his political capital to reform Social Security.  And he used the word "privatize," and it was a good plan.  It was an excellent, excellent plan -- and it would not have touched current retirees. It would not have affected them at all, but the Democrats demagogued it.  Basically what Bush... I don't remember the specifics, but a portion -- not all, a portion -- of the payroll taxes deducted each pay period from an employee's paycheck would be put into an investment fund where it would grow independently of whatever the Social Security lockbox did. See, the dirty little secret here is that the federal government has been living off Social Security for years.

Social Security was taking in more than it was paying out and they used that to make it look like the deficit was lower than it was. This has been going for decades, not just recently.  Now you're right: We've reached the point where Social Security is spending, paying out, more than it's bringing in.  The only way that this is going to be reformed is to do a number of things: Raise the retirement age -- and by the way, in order to get this done you're going to have to exempt from the reform changes any of the current retirees.  If you don't, they'll stop it.  They will stop it dead in its tracks.  Social Security, you've heard it referred to as the third rail, meaning: You touch that and you're dead.  And it is.  It still is.  The Democrats don't want any reform whatsoever, and Obama clearly doesn't.  He loves deficit spending.  He loves debt!

He loves wrecking the engine that produced the golden goose.  He loves killing the golden goose!  But this is going to have to be reformed and everybody's been warning of this for 20 years and we've had these stopgap little "bipartisan" fixes, and all they've done is buy a little time toward the day of reckoning -- and at each one of these fixes the people that were engaged in the fix (or involved in it) are no longer around.  Elected officials, I mean. They're no longer around.  But it's going to have to be privatized.  What did Bush in was that term.  The Democrats were able to demagogue it and point to a falling stock market and say, "Do you want your Social Security money in that account?  Look what's happening to the stock market! Do you want big-time Wall Street people making a profit on your Social Security contributions?"

They demagogued it all the way from here to hell just because of the word "privatization," and the reason they were successful on that is the word "security." Social Security. "Secure. You don't have to be worry about it.  It's always going to be there."  Then "privatization" came along. That permitted Democrats to suggest that it wasn't going to be secure anymore, and they demagogued Wall Street just as Obama is doing now.  It's like the same old playbook. This is why, frankly, I get so damn frustrated, folks, with people not understanding what liberals are and what they believe and what they say and how they lie to people.  The Democrats can't pay for any of their programs now! The people that have come along and tried to reform this get killed politically.  They get destroyed. Yet the Democrats are taking this country off the cliff!

Liberal Democrats are taking the country off of the cliff.  This young 15-year-old boy called us yesterday, "What can I do to secure my future?"  Focus on grassroots. Get rid of every Democrat.  The only way this country is going to be restored to the country you think it is and it always has been, is to get rid of Democrats in power.  Get rid of them at the ballot box, get rid of them as a majority in any elected place -- and it's gonna take a while to depopulate the federal bureaucracy of all these career-appointed libs who are in there working against the expressed wishes of the elected representatives of the people if they're not oriented toward liberalism.  It is a huge, huge fight -- and the future of the country as you and I have known it, is what hangs in the balance here.
