By endorsing Rand Paul Palin confirms she’s pro-choice (for states) - ALAN KEYES

[As background for this article, it would be helpful to read these previous posts: Palin's Choice: An Afterword, The saving grace of the republican imperative, Guaranteeing republican government-a little dialogue, Is Palin's lead a pitfall for the pro-life cause?, Sarah Palin-Personally pro-life, but...?, and Kentucky's Bill Johnson-a thoroughbred conservative for the U.S. Senate.]

I was with Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Bill Johnson when the news came that Sarah Palin had endorsed one of Bill's opponents, Rand Paul, in the race for the Republican nomination. We were in the Student Center cafeteria taking time out for a little refreshment after speaking to a group of pro-life students at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. After he received the report by cell phone Bill filled me in on the details, which were later confirmed by new reports such as this one found on WHAS11.com.

"US Senate candidate Rand Paul tells WHAS11's Joe Arnold that Sarah Palin is endorsing his campaign. "It's huge," Paul said, adding that he has never spoken to the former Alaska Governor and 2008 Republican Vice-presidential nominee. In her endorsement statement Palin says "I'm proud to support great grassroots candidates like Dr. Paul. While there are issues we disagree on, he and I are both in agreement that it's time to shake up the status quo in Washington and stand up for common sense ideas."

Keyes makes the mistake of attributing Ron Paul’s ideas to his son.

No he doesn't. Their positions are identical. The audio that proves it is located HERE.

Once again Aln Keyes mischaracterizes someone else’s position for his own purposes. He has long ago jumped the shark. Too bad the delusions have over taken him

Their positions are identical.

No, they are not. Rand has come out in favor of keeping Gitmo open and in favor of military tribunals for the 9-11 perps.

Geez, then what is everyone talking about? I’m confused. But, I should have known, since Alan Keyes is nuts.

“Roe v. Wade must be overturned. And anyone who believes it should be left to the States is a hypocrite.”

Actually, overturning Roe v. Wade would almost certainly result in abortion becoming a state issue, at least in the short term. I'd be for Federal legislation, or a Constitutional amendment banning elective abortion, but realistically overturning Roe v. Wade will not ban abortion nationwide.

Even Justice Scalia has stated that he does not believe the Constitution prohibits abortion, though he doesn't believe it guarantees a right to it either.

From what I understand, Rand Paul is pro-life. And no question that Sarah Palin is pro-life.

You need to do your homework. They're both pro-choice for states, just like Keyes says. It's beyond dispute. They have taken Gerald R. Ford's position, which is the opposite of Ronald Reagan's.

Reagan's stance, by the way, is still at the heart of the Republican platform. Go read it.

The point is first overturning Roe v Wade. Untill that is down nothing else matters. It is like discussing where you are going to park the Mercedes when you don’t have 10 cents towards buying it. It is stupid and a waste of time. Rand Paul is an ally. Most states would immediately ban Abortion if given the opportunity. I’m not sure where Rand stands on the 14th Ammendment but I know several things. He is a solid conservative to the core, he believes in the principles on which this country was founded and he will stand up and vote against things that are not constitution whether or not it is a Republican or Democrat bill. That is what we have been lacking especially during the Bush years. We lacked members with conviction to do what was right regardless of the politics.

I’ll do some more checking into this...Rep.Ron Paul has some good ideas and some I don’t particularly agree with. It’s true Rand isn’t Ron and I shouldn’t lump them together...I seen him in one interview and he was very good in that venue...need more info on his Israeli / American views.

No. I’m out to return this country to its cornerstone principles, before it’s too late. And frankly, as this thread is already showing, the main obstacle is those who call themselves conservatives.

I don’t know much about Rand Paul, but if you believe his statement on his website, he is strongly pro-life.

http://www.randpaul2010.com/issues/a-g/abortion-2/

I am 100% pro life. I believe abortion is taking the life of an innocent human being.
I believe life begins at conception and it is the duty of our government to protect this life.
I will always vote for any and all legislation that would end abortion or lead us in the direction of ending abortion.
I believe in a Human Life Amendment and a Life at Conception Act as federal solutions to the abortion issue. I also believe that while we are working toward this goal, there are many other things we can accomplish in the near term.

It is unconscionable that government would facilitate the taking of innocent life. I strongly oppose any federal funding for abortion and will stop the flow of tax dollars to groups like Planned Parenthood, who perform or advoate abortions.

In addition, I believe we may be able to save millions of lives in the near future by allowing states to pass their own anti-abortion laws. If states were able to do so, I sincerely believe many – including Kentucky – would do so tomorrow, saving hundreds of thousands of lives.
Before 1973, abortion was illegal in most states. Since Roe v. Wade, over 50 million children have died in abortion procedures.

I would strongly support legislation restricting federal courts from hearing cases like Roe v. Wade. Such legislation would only require a majority vote, making it more likely to pass than a pro-life constitutional amendment.

I would support legislation, a Sanctity of Life Amendment, establishing the principle that life begins at conception. This legislation would define life at conception in law, as a scientific statement.

As your Senator, there are many ways I can help end abortion. I will fight for each and every one of them.

Their positions are identical.

Agreed. Both are solidly pro-life.

Your attempts at lies notwithstanding.

Looks like Ron went a little Old Testament/Torah on us with his view:

http://www.ronpaul.com/on-the-issues/abortion/

Looks like he'd be all for making prophylactic abortion a MURDER charge. Hardly a "pro-choice" advocate.

If Roe v. Wade is overturned it will quite possibly revert back to the states and their elected bodies.

Fact is MEDICAL DECISIONS SHOULD NOT BE MADE BY THE GOVERNMENT. period end of paragraph.

Government has no say in my health care ( and yet they interfer all the time)

If we get enough right-thinking U.S.S.C. justices and Roe v. Wade is overturned then States will still be able to choose to have legal abortion. I am ok with this

Following your "logic," which other unalienable rights do you want to treat in the same way?
