Dan Rather wants Obama to help save the news
Aspen Daily ^ | 2/3/10 | Andy Travers

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather called on President Barack Obama to form a White House commission to help save the press Tuesday night in an impassioned speech at the Aspen Institute.

“I personally encourage the president to establish a White House commission on public media,” the legendary newsman said.

Such a commission on media reform, Rather said, ought to make recommendations on saving journalism jobs and creating new business models to keep news organizations alive.

At stake, he argued, is the very survival of American democracy.

CBS is already the equivalent of the USSR era Tass or Pravda. He just wants a formal consummation ala Larry Sinclair

Just go ahead and say it, Dan. You want a FEDERAL BAILOUT of the left-wing media.

Meanwhile, Fox News Channel is kicking ass and taking names in the ratings.

Kind of a quid pro quo thingy here - media ignores bammy’s lack of experience and racist leanings while rediculing the competition to get him elected - now media needs some help staying in business. Funny - can you imagine the reaction from Pubbies, tea partiers, and working class Dems if this were attempted? My guess, bammy will go for it.

As legendary as the men who faked the Cardiff Giant or Piltdown Man or Hitler’s diaries.

-- legendary? --

Think Durante. He's legendary. Or Goebbels, he's legendary too.

Legendary doesn't necessarily mean "good," "just" or "righteous." Now, myself, I'd use "notorious" to label the likes of Cronkite, Rather, Couric, and a host of other paid liars.

Once they accept money from our government, they would have to report the news the way this administration wanted them to. Of course they wouldn’t give any money to Fox would they?

You’ve already sold yourselves, body and soul, to the Democrats. Why buy a newspaper when Dan Rather is giving propaganda away for free?

“I personally encourage the president to establish a White House commission on public media,”

said Rather, "and I'll volunteer to be the Media Czar."

Hay Dan. How about some decent reporting. How about some fair and balanced news. Fox seems to be doing okay. People are now on to the left wing bias of the MSM and they aren't buying the BS anymore. You got embarrassed by a guy behind a keyboard (perhaps in his pajamas) who knew more than you and actually did some thinking. You wanted the news to be in line with your politics and you got burned badly.

We don't need the NY Times, Washington Post, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS (big time) anymore. Your days are over.

At stake, he argued, is the very survival of American democracy.

For American democracy to survive, the mainstream media needs to die.

He wants the White House to create “business models”? Pretty funny considering only 8% of WH staff has ever even working in the private sector, and mostly think business is evil. What the hell would they know about fixing any business.
