Democratic anger goes public in prime time
The London Guardian / The Associated Press ^ | January 28, 2010 | Laurie Kellman

The Democrat-vs.-Democrat anger roiling the ranks of Congress is being wrapped in smiles and standing ovations Wednesday as President Barack Obama outlines the nation's top priorities in his first State of the Union speech.

But for most of the Democrats cramming the House chamber, there is no issue more pressing than getting re-elected in November. And it's not clear that pursuing Obama's priorities will help them achieve theirs.

In personal and profane terms, House and Senate Democrats have huddled behind closed doors to list the debacles: The stunner in Massachusetts that cost the Democrats a Senate seat. The slow-motion collapse of health care talks. A government bailout of Wall Street while unemployment sits in double-digits.

"It just stinks to the high heaven what happened here," Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., railed earlier in the day at Obama's treasury secretary, Timothy Geithner.

He was talking about the bailout, but the statement could well describe the Democrats' attitude about Obama's performance and the toll it's taken on their political standing. And Wednesday night, they were expected to put on a smile and applaud a president and an agenda many have questioned.

Republicans were making a studied effort to stay out of the way and avoid a "You lie" moment that stole the show during Obama's last address to Congress. The House's three top Republican leaders — Reps. John Boehner of Ohio, Eric Cantor of Virginia and Mike Pence of Indiana — all lectured their troops before the address that the president should be treated with respect.(continued)

However, Alito didn't get the memo, and most people thought he said ( NOT TRUE ) and rightfully so after Obama was rude to the Supreme Court of the USA.

This inadvertently shows the downside of term limits — if re-election is not possible, then the politician will not care about trying to achieve it.

"We have to wait for the House of Lords to do their contemplating," said Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y. "We're also not getting much guidance from the mother ship...

Weiner's a dork, but that is funny!

The Obamanation was much worse than rude, though, he chastised the SCOTUS in preposterous terms that would be unworthy of a college freshman

his ignorance of the actual decision and its implications is pitiful, but making it a national and international spectacle in the SOTU address is asinine

btw, now is a good time to demand that his own campaign funding be thoroughly investigated, that he open all records and allow full scrutiny of all those zillions of dollars in mysterious online donations which could and did come from all over the world

fun seeing the Demagogues approaching meltdown phase

one way to really put the several dozen most vulnerable ‘Rats on the spot would be to start running ads in their districts and states showing them in support of Pelosi, Obama, and Reid on myriad issues

a lot of Demagogues will be trying to run to the “center” and pretend that they are somehow independent

what needs to be shown to their constituents is the extent to which they are loyal puppets of the left

Especially when the truth is so easy to find.

--------------------------------------------------

Tonight the president engaged in demogoguery of the worst kind, when he claimed that last week’s Supreme Court decision in Citizens United v. FEC, “open[ed] the floodgates for special interests — including foreign corporations — to spend without limit in our elections. Well I don’t think American elections should be bankrolled by America’s most powerful interests, or worse, by foreign entities.”

The president’s statement is false.

The Court held that 2 U.S.C. Section 441a, which prohibits all corporate political spending, is unconstitutional. Foreign nationals, specifically defined to include foreign corporations, are prohibiting from making “a contribution or donation of money or ather thing of value, or to make an express or implied promise to make a contribution or donation, in connection with a Federal, State or local election” under 2 U.S.C. Section 441e, which was not at issue in the case. Foreign corporations are also prohibited, under 2 U.S.C. 441e, from making any contribution or donation to any committee of any political party, and they prohibited from making any “expenditure, independent expenditure, or disbursement for an electioneering communication... .”

This is either blithering ignorance of the law, or demogoguery of the worst kind.

Flip side of the coin for term limits: The deception, lies and alliances formed for perpetual re- election are damaging as well. The original idea was, they would return to their homes and live under the laws they were making, not the DC cocoon. It also changes the dynamics of those powerful committees if there is a regular rotation.

One has to wonder given all that happened to Bush because of them “16 words” if anything at all will happen to Obama for his who knows how many words?

Or does nobody expect the president of the United States to be both truthful and factual when addressing congress in the State of the Union?

...in addition he added his name to the list of idiot global warmers as if we didn’t have enough evidence of where he stood, when he announced he was on the side of “overwhelming scientific evidence”, and then slammed the Republicans by adding, “but even if you don’t believe the evidence”...

He spent a lot of arrogant time in the left hand teleprompter looking directly at the Republican side while doing his very best Benito act. I don’t know what it takes to get the attention of a Chicago community organizer, but apparently conservatives don’t, but them dems don’t either.

Another “you lie” moment, about 70 minutes of you lie, deceive, distort, and carry on your mandate from the people, as you recall it.

His whole SOTU speech was what sounded like a cheap trial lawyer giving his closing argument to a court that had overwhelming evidence against his client. He did nothing but lie, as if in hopes of finding a juror or two that would buy his story.

My wife asked how many times a minute Speaker pelosi blinked per minute, I counted almost ten times in five seconds. My eyes! I could hardly look.

And Obama's double down last night did not help his party. He has no intention of reversing course. I can't wait til the fall!
